There's a deeper meaning behind the episode Normal Again (6x17). In the Victorian era and early 19th century, women were placed in asylums for "hysteria". Most of these women were not mentally ill, they were simply going against their husbands or pushing back against the societal expectations for women. These acts of strength were labeled as insanity. In BTVS slayers are only women, they are girls with great power which goes against misogynistic beliefs about women. The fact that in Normal Again Buffy is in a mental asylum for believing that she has powers is representative of the experience of women throughout history who were accused of being hysterical because they were resisting and fighting for power and control of their own lives. At the end of normal again Buffy returns to her reality where she is the slayer, deciding that the mental hospital world is the false one. This decision represents how women in the past were not crazy and that they were just strong, brave women showing strength, and that the mental asylums were the issue, the lie. I've seen some people theorize that maybe vampires were all in Buffy's head and that she really is in a mental asylum, but I feel that if this theory was correct it would take away from the feminist themes and messages of the show.

I’ve been thinking about how confused Aziraphale was in this moment. Not just about the fact that Shadwell thought he was a demon but also the fact that Shadwell thought that Aziraphale was straight. The book states that most people who meet Aziraphale assume he’s gay; him and Crowley are assumed to be a couple by Marry Hodges, Anathema, and that random guy who saw them fighting; Aziraphale literally spent time at a gay club learning the gavotte and as far as we’re aware no one questioned his presence. This means that most people (if not everyone) assume that Aziraphale is gay, even Shadwell originally thought this (this is seen when he refers to Aziraphale as a southern pansy). Aziraphale is probably aware of this fact and quite used to it, so he was probably very confused when Shadwell said that he was seducing women.

buffy is such a beautiful show to me because its so genre-flexible. there's an episode of buffy for every occasion. want teen drama and angst? check. want schlocky, campy monster fighting? check. want a good laugh? check. want genuinely harrowing tragedy that leaves you feeling numb? check!!!

Since it’s come up yet again: no, Victor Hugo was not paid by the word to write Les Misérables, nor any of his other notable works.

While Hugo may have been paid a word rate for his early serialised fiction, by the time of Les Mis’ authorship he was sufficiently famous that he was able to command advance payment in a lump sum.

Indeed, he famously caused his publisher a great deal of anxiety by refusing to discuss how long Les Mis would be, leading to fears that he was planning to turn in a tiny pamphlet-length piece, then take the advance and run. His editors were reportedly extremely surprised at what they actually received!

The reason that Les Mis is the way that it is is because Victor Hugo is just Like That.

At the end of good omens season 2, when the credits start rolling, the background music that is playing is titled the end?

In the finale when Crowley and Aziraphale are in the garden, inside Aziraphale's bookshop, \the background music that is playing is called in the garden. At the start of season 1 God says a line: " it starts as it will end, in the garden". At about 41 seconds into the song, in the garden, the melody changes and becomes the theme from the end? So when Crowley and Aziraphale are deciding to sacrifice themselves and create a new world ( which as far as they know, won't have them in it) the song that is playing is the end? The music that is playing is literally asking the question; is this the end?

The main thing that good omens fans focus on in the 1941 flashback is the fact that Crowley saved Aziraphale's books. On a more serious note Crowley has saved Aziraphale from getting discorporated resulting in him having to do paperwork and getting embarrassed. These are the things that people usually think about with this scene, but another part of the scene is that Crowley literally prevents valuable prophecy books from getting into the hands of Nazis. Those books could have greatly aided the Nazis, so if your think about it, in the good omens cannon Crowley is one of the reasons the Nazis didn't win World War 2. I find it so funny that the good omens fandom rarely focuses on this fact because we're all such obsessed shipers that we're more focused on how sweet Crowley is to his Angel and how absolutely smitten Aziraphale looks.

Imagine finding out you have 90 minutes to tie up a love story that's developed over thousands of years. You create something beautifully in character and completely on point for the plot. You pay homage to the original writer's legacy in a fitting and poetic way and create an ending that not only shows the depth of two people's love for each other but the wider love they have for the thing that brought them together in the first place.

And then you go online to find the loudest outcry is that everyone hates it and "THEY DIDN'T EVEN KISS!"

I feel sorry for people who didn't get anything out of that stunning finale.

The Beginning | The End

Honest (SPOILER) thoughts regarding the GO finale, I think a valuable piece of writing people are kinda overlooking is the INCREDIBLE subversion of their main motivations

Like we as the audience are lead to believe from the start that Crowley is this jaded, cynical little fucker who’s fond of one person and one person only. The typical “nothing in this world matters except you” grumpy who doesn’t give a shit about a universe that rejected him. Aziraphale, likewise, is pretty easily seen as the bigger picture guy, it’s obvious he loves Crowley deeply but it’s the mission of the larger world, the good of the people, that draws his time and energy- he chooses that responsibility more than Crowley. These are the roles we’ve seen them play and the archetypes we’ve kinda locked them in to. It matches with their grumpy vs sunshine attitudes, their aesthetics etc

Then in s2 we started noticing some cracks in it. We’ve met Angel Crowley who is a beautiful sunshiny dreamer who cares so deeply about the gorgeous world around him. Aziraphale starts to get a bit wrapped up in his own self interest from time to time, caring more about his bookshop or Crowley or even Jim than his larger mission. These little moments added depth to their characters, but ultimately didn’t shake our ideas of them. But THEN-

When they were asked by God what they would save, everything in the world has been stripped from them. The universe is lost- all that remains is each other and the final question of “what in the whole of existence matters to you most?” And we think we know what they’ll say, we think the way we’ve been taught all this time- Crowley is the selfish lover and Aziraphale is the heartbroken rejector.

But instead we meet their cores. We meet the truest stripped down versions of themselves and we learn the truth. Aziraphale picks Crowley. His lover, his life, the being that completes him. He makes the selfish, or loving, choice, no matter what it means to the world. And Crowley- Crowley is crying for the world. He is so utterly helplessly desperate for humanity to have their chance that he’s willing to throw away everything out of his sheer love for them. We’ve met the old part of him again, the artist and the lover, the selfless one he’s had within him all along. And for Aziraphale we’ve finally met the lover in him too, the one who’s finally willing to put his love for Crowley above all else.

I don’t know but I think it’s absolutely beautiful to get to know characters that you thought had these black and white motivations, only to discover that when it all comes down to it, they are capable of throwing everything we assumed about them out the window. There’s no black and white or even grey, but a whole world of mixed up colours and choices that make them whole. The sinful Angel and the selfless demon to the last.

It’s a 600 yearlong slow burn, and they’re enemies to lovers but their neither enemies nor lovers. And they’re gay but they’re also not gay but like they are. Also they’ve gotten divorced multiple times but they’ve never actually dated or been married. But like they’re also are an old married couple
