Aroace culture is how most of your life was you desperately wanting to fit in, so you do things like gaslight yourself into having crushes, going into relationships and feeling absolutely nothing, and overall just trying to fit into this box that people have drilled into your head that you need to fit in in order to be accepted and validated.
It was only when you finally got out of a toxic hetero relationship for your own sake, sat down with yourself and asked what you truly wanted in your life, that you finally found something that is truly tied to your identity for the first time in your life.

yk guys I think a lot of ppl when arguing against the death penalty go for a like "people don't deserve death, etc" view and I get why ppl argue for that I rly do! but it doesn't matter. I don't trust the government to do it, I don't trust them to decide who should die, I don't trust them to determine who is mentally competent, I don't trust them to not be bigoted and discriminatory in their practices, I don't trust them to have the right people, I don't trust them to execute it in a humanitarian way. and I've had discussions with ppl who otherwise have similar viewpoints to me in many ways but can think of people they think deserve to die, and I think if abolishing the death penalty is like, a super important cause to u the same way it is to me, the argument u use shouldn't be "well these people deserve to live" (although in some cases I think yeah the death penalty is done to people who totally don't "deserve it") because that's so subjective, it should be "do you trust the government to do it?" like, do you trust the people who cant even fill potholes on your road to determine who should and should not live
aroace culture is finding yourself really attractive and cool and being glad and proud that no one gets to have you because you are awesome and beautiful as is on your own

the thing that happens to trans men's pasts is different from what happens to trans women's pasts, and i think the difference matters even though i almost never see anyone name it. trans women get their pasts thrown at them constantly. every conversation about whether trans women belong in women's spaces eventually drags out "but you grew up as a boy," like that's a gotcha, like twenty years ago is more real than right now. their history gets used against them. everyone knows this. it's one of the most recognizable forms of transmisogyny. trans men get the opposite. nobody throws our pasts at us. they just quietly pretend our pasts didn't happen. i lived as a girl for over two decades. i was treated like a girl. i was targeted like a girl. i was assaulted as someone the world had filed under "girl." and the second i came out, all of that became — what? practice? a rough cut? it's like people decided the person those things happened to was a character i was playing, and since i stopped playing her, the things that happened to her aren't mine to carry anymore. except my body doesn't work like that. my body still does all the shit it learned to do during those years. i still flinch at the same things. i still can't go into certain stores without my chest locking up. whatever people decided about the legitimacy of my girlhood, my nervous system was not consulted. and what actually pisses me off is that both of these things — dragging the past forward for trans women and deleting it for trans men — end up doing the same job. they both make sure trans people can't be whole. you either get chained to a version of yourself that never fit, or you get cut off from the version that did exist, and either way you end up with a gap where a continuous life should be. i don't have a clean ending for this because i don't think there is one yet.
I can't wait for the Project Hail Mary movie to release on DVD or Blu-Ray. I want to watch it so bad!
I read the Project Hail Mary novel in autumn last year and absolutely loved it. It was one of those books that had me staring at a wall after finishing. When I looked up fan content online to fill that Rocky-and-Grace-shaped void, I was stoked to the film coming out. I really wanted to go see it in the cinema. Unfortunately, I missed the time window!
I know it's on Amazon Prime by now, but I don't have a subscription, and I don't want to get one for just a single movie. Plus, I want to get it as physical media anyway.
Ever since the film released, I've had so much PHM content pop up on all my social media, and since I've come back from my hiatus here on tumblr, I've seen even more.
Grace is so aroace coded, and I think he's the first main character in a mainstream film who is a popular aroace headcanon. Besides, PHM is a story that puts emphasis on a platonic relationship and has little to no romance. As a representation-starved aro, it made me feel seen.
I enjoyed it so much, and I'd love to interact with more fan content online, but it's weird when I haven't watched the movie yet. Argh!

I don't know if I will ever feel comfortable coming out as aroace, despite being comfortably aroace. The other day someone asked me if I was queer and I felt so uncomfortable saying yes, because even if it is true, I knew it was still painting the wrong picture in this persons mind. And throughout the rest of the evening it was obvious they thought I was bi but I couldn't correct them because it's not an easy "oh I'm not X I'm Y", it's a whole new conversation: opening yourself up to uncomfortable and invasive questions, opening yourself up to the other persons astonishment and bafflement which just makes you feel more othered, opening yourself up to being hurt by casual assumptions and dismissive comments or just plain awkward silence. and usually it ends with the feeling that you didn't do enough to paint the right picture, to explain everything in a way that leaves no false impressions, that you didn't find the right words to make them truly understand you. despite such understanding taking years and years of work. It's so frustrating!

you know what you shouldnt do? constantly tell your child how expensive they are to take care of. because eventually, that child gets scared of asking for money, and doesnt feed themself at school, doesnt go places with their friends that require money, because she doesnt want to be expensive. it really does get into their minds, that theyre too much money and that they shouldnt do anything.

anyone else like romance in fiction (and i guess irl too) but specifically only for the build up of the relationship? ive found that i only really care about ships when theyre not really anything solidified and the moment they officially get together in a romantic relationship its just like... nothing and i dont really care about it anymore.
