About me & my blog

Hello everybody, consider this my intro post. I just wanted to say hi and give you an idea what I plan my blog to be about.

I don't have an online nickname but if you need a name to refer to me, you can just make one up based on my url. My pronouns are she/her but it doesn't really matter to me if you use those or any other. As long as it's clear you mean me (and you're not trying to insult me), I don't really care.

I'm in my twenties and I am disabled. I'm not gonna give you a diagnosis but my disability is physical and visible. Among other things, I am a full-time wheelchair user. Of course that influences how I see the world and part of my blog will be about that.

However, I plan my blog to be mostly about aromanticism. I currently identify as aro (though I'm not completely done with questioning). I don't use the SAM right now because I don't really know my sexuality and I couldn't care less about it. I'm not out to anyone irl so I don't have anybody to talk about aro issues except on the internet. That is the reason I joined tumblr, to find a community here (plus I heard y'all are really nice so...)

Anyways, that's it folks. I hope y'all like what I post (it's probably mostly gonna be reblogs).

It is okay to get fatter because of disability. You are not "downgrading" or "deteriorating" and you still deserve accommodation no matter how fat you are. Fat disabled people are treated like shit - if you were already fat, people don't believe you or think you inflicted your disability on yourself by being fat and therefore it's your fault and you should lose weight before getting help. And if you weren't fat but became fat due to your disabilities you're seen as a lazy slob who's not trying hard enough to help themselves.

You deserve better. It's okay to be fat and disabled. It's okay to gain weight while struggling.

reminder that there are many physical disabilities that involve the brain. disorders can be both neurological and psychiatric, but they are two separate categories of illness.

in discussions about brain dysfunction, people usually think of neurodiversity and mental illness. neurological disorders that are primarily physical are often left out of the conversation entirely.

many neurological conditions are not psychiatric, and treating the two as synonymous is denying the lived experiences of a large percentage of the physically disabled population.

If you hold disabled and mentally ill people to even higher standards than abled people and would judge a mentally ill or otherwise disabled person harder for drinking/doing drugs/not exercising/eating "unhealthy"/smoking/etc than you would most people that's ableism in action and no I don't care whether you claim to genuinely worry about them. Disability comes with less capacity to do things and a bigger than average need to just find a way to cope with life and should NOT result in even harsher judgments for not always making the "healthiest" choices

I think one of the most annoying aspects of having a bulky mobility aid is that you completely lose the right to wander. Almost everywhere you go is "in the way" to someone so if you go somewhere and then change your mind and go back it's treated as if you're being rude and disruptive when it wouldn't be seen as an issue if someone who doesn't have a bulky mobility aid did it. It's just normal human behaviour to change your mind sometimes. This is doubly an issue when you needed assistance getting there, there's an intense pressure to stick with every single decision you make that doesn't apply to everyone else, and it makes every trip out in public so stressful.

I didn't realise that this was a thing that bothered me until it was mentioned just now. I'll literally be sitting still on my scooter at an event like any pedestrian around me is standing around, and people will start asking me if I need to get through. I'm literally just chilling. Am I not even allowed to stay still without people assuming I'm not supposed to be there
