what i find funny is the whole uproar over the uk's social media law (which is bad) (not good) but crickets over mexico requiring a curp to obtain internet service. and allowing authorities to locate phones and personal data associated w internet services without judicial orders. bloggers will be killed over this. whistleblowers will be killed over this.

but tumblr gringos will look at the shiny `broadband for disadvantaged ppl!!` (highly doubt if or when or how that will happen) and continue the age old tradition of engaging in guilt ridden worship of the mexican government. bc that's easier than fixing their own problems. bc that's easier than ceasing our brutalization.

I keep seeing that Mexican chocolate post and I need to remind people that this is only being done as the bare minimum by the government. While Sheinbaum announced that chocolate bar, the Mexican government was busy purchasing surveillance equipment from Israel, and defending US-american property developers as they buy up more and more housing in the three biggest cities in the country. The reality is that Sheinbaum, Lopez-Obrador, and MORENA proved to be just as bad as the previous conservative governments. No amount of shiny new trains and "cruelty free" chocolate hide the fact that the country is being turned into a surveillance state which funds the Israeli government and welcomes western capitalists who are stripping the country of its resources.

This isn't even getting into her backtracking on the 40-hour workweek. One of the biggest promises of her campaing, and she acquiesced to the capitalist class by shutting out the workers from the process, putting the whole thing at the mercy of the country's wealthiest businesses. We can't forget calling her calling the recent anti-gentrification protests as xenophobic against US-Americans and Europeans🙄

it is not that the democratic party of the united states is at a disconnect with the rest of the country. it is that it takes active steps to distance itself from the political reality it has to face. addicted to the status quo ass party
