I'm frighteningly close to watching a playthrough of the dgs case with Albert just for the benbaro crumbs
I have given in to the temptation. See ya in 10h
Happy pride month everyone!!
when i think of benbaro sometimes my mind conjures up scenarios of van zieks walking around duckling style following mr harebrayne and saying "albert. #mybert"
Benbaro meme redraws be upon ye
I really like Barok’s quote of “…curiously, we got along” bc I think it implies that Barok, even back in his uni days, didn’t consider himself the type of person to be friends with Albert. And while i think it’s fair to assume that if the two had met after Barok’s change, then they wouldn’t be friends, i also think it’s fun to imagine that they WOULD become friends. They were already an odd pair normally so it wouldn’t be any less odd if they met later.
happy pride

I've said it many times, many ways...
But that scene just before Albert's Not Guilty verdict in 2-3 gave me all the feels!
Albert believes he's been selfish and a fool.
But then Barok speaks up and tells him that's not true, and that his efforts were "laudable, not laughable."
This was the moment I began actually shipping these two, but even if you look at them platonically it still tugs my heartstrings. Barok really didn't have to say that, but he wanted to. Because he didn't want his old friend to doubt himself! And it's very sweet.
you're so right!! it's so sweet!! I don't remember the precise moment I began to ship them personally but like that's always one of the things I appreciate about them, whether romantic or platonic too! just the way they're earnest to each other (even if Barok spends a lot of the trial being his usual bitchy self haha)
like it's one of those things that I feel like is a little rare in Ace Attorney? characters seem to have trouble being open and earnest about how much they care about the people around them (not all the time of course) but so many of their interactions are just a level of straight up. when Albert's in prison and tells Barok he's delighted to see him again, Barok's little speech at the end of the trial there, showing how much he respects Albert, then when he says he's one of the true friends he has and he couldn't let anyone else handle the prosecution or defence (an acknowledgement of Ryu there too!!), and then how he's very insistent that Albert go home for his safety, then when Barok is in prison, he's reading the letter from Albert and is up front with Ryu and Susato about how relieved he is, and then the credits scene where Albert says Barok wrote him a really nice letter and calls him his dear old university friend... even just platonically it's such a breath of fresh air to see people be so open and true about their care for each other! and it's deeply hilarious that it came from two Victorian British men of all people!
i've been phasing the phrase 'google it' out of my vocabulary and going back to 'look it up'. fuck you youve lost your generic trademark privileges
The above is a video shared by smrchildsadness on Twitter, showing a person participating in a pride parade exchanging a pride flag with a person standing on his (am using his pronoun based on the TikToks/Tweets of what happened) doorway who had a Portuguese flag. There are sounds of cheers and crying and the two people hug each other as they exchange the flags. The man at the doorway then waved kisses to the crowd within the pride parade.
The Tweet says: "NO YOU DONT UNDERSTAND HE WAS WAVING THE PORTUGUESE FLAG BECAUSE HE DIDN'T HAVE A PRIDE FLAG AND THEY TRADED FLAGS AND HE'S SO EMOTIONAL TO GET HIS OWN PRIDE FLAG I'M EMOTIONALLY RUINED"
For context, apparently they were worried that maybe he's a nationalist because he was waving the Portuguese flag and some nationalists opposing the pride march were waving that flag. But upon interacting with him, it turns out he didn't have have a pride flag and he wanted to wave *a* flag in support of the pride march. So they had an exchange and now he has his own pride flag 😭🥹.
The image above is a Tweet by kunwara_ladkaa that says "I'm crying so much right now (Image taken by Manuel Fernando Araújo/Lusa)". The image shows the same man from the pride parade crying as he hugs his new pride flag.
The above image is a Tweet by dudz_zZzz that says "ainda não parei de pensar nele," which according to Google translate from Portuguese to English is "I still haven't stopped thinking about him." The image is a drawing of the person from the pride parade, crying as he hugs his new pride flag.

One of the most joyful moments of 2024 during a Pride Parade in Portugal.
getting teary eyed thinking about gerda gottlieb's paintings of her wife after she transitioned
thing is, for a lot of these paintings it wasn’t “after” lily elbe’s transition. there was no after to it. the one op posted was painted in 1928. this was 2 years before lily legally changed her name and began undergoing revolutionary gender affirming procedures. unfortunately she died due to complications of an experimental uterine transplant in 1931.
up until that point, during the day lily continued to dress in masculine clothing and even attended galleries showing gottlieb’s paintings of her. which was kind of iconic. she got to stand in a room full of people who were marveling her beauty, not knowing she was right next to them. it must have been such a cute little secret for them as a couple.
here’s gerda and lilly together
not to mention that for most people there is no real “after” to a transition. especially for these trans historical figures who had to balance identity and safety at all times.
i think having a wife paint these portraits must have felt really amazing for lily. to be able to see herself through the eyes of someone who loved her. i’m very much seconding op on the getting teary eyed.
here are some of my favorite gottleib lily paintings
