Honestly one of the best subtle details in all of TRC is who curses/how/when:
Ronan just says âfuckâ a lot, and every standard less strong swear, and/or gets a bit creative with compound words (âshitdamn,â âshitbird,â âmindfuckery,â âsubfuckery,â etc). Sometimes says âJesusâ or âJesus Mary,â but never âJesus Christ.â (Declan is the only other person to say âJesus Maryâ in the series.) Declan also says âfuckâ a fair amount, considering the relatively small amount of dialogue we get from him. Also says âJesus shit Mary fuckâ when startled by Gwenllian moving whilst still in her coffin. Which, like, fair enough.
Gansey does not swear on-page; he merely uses âa word he learned from his sister, Helenâ (adorable). He says âJesusâ or âJesus Christâ a lot, sometimes just âChristâ. Helen and Gansey II also say âJesus Christâ. He says âfuckâ once, quoting Ronan, and Ronan immediately mocks him for it. He says damn or goddamn sometimes, probably also says shit a few times and maybe asshole.
Adam says âdamnâ, mostly, and âshitâ in various contexts. Only says âfuckâ on two occasions: when Gansey says basically the worst thing ever to him right after his hospital visit in TRB he says âfuck youâ, and when Ronanâs mom dies and Ronanâs still trapped there in the dream.
Blue doesnât curse much, mostly quoting for humor (âdonât be such a shitbag,â to Ronan after Adam said it; âyouâre not such a shithead,â also to Ronan). Probably says damn a few times idk. 300 Fox Way ladies tend to say âdamnâ and âshitâ and âassâ rather than anything stronger anyway.
I donât think Henry and Noah really swear? Henry does basically quote Ronan once (âfuck off,â says Ronan, when the roof tiles fall and nearly kill Adam and the bystanders do nothing, and Henry corrects, âdonât fuck off, notify a teacherâ).
