parabatai are literally so insignificant in tmi and I know it's just bc the parabatai lore wasn't ever supposed to become as significant as it is now but it's kind of sending me regardless bc you're telling me that will and jem didn't even have to be doing all that?

Will & Jem and Jace & Alec are kinda like the two extremes of parabatai because while Will and Jem are doing the absolute most, Jace and Alec are winning the idgaf war. like they're ideal parabatai dynamic is pretending they're not parabatai. and the later books then go on to explain that their bond is Serious and Deep it's just that Jace acts like he's above everything & doesn't need anyone and Alec would rather dig his own grave then talk about his feelings

like I'm reading cols rn & it's takes Alec two weeks to explain to the others that his parabatai bond with Jace feels wrong after he disappears. and he only does it then because Clary asks him lmao

Alec and Clary hating each other's guts in cob is iconic & funny but what makes it so much funnier is how quickly they get over it. by the epilogue they're both like "I feel so bad about all the mean & completely untrue things I said to you and for being really shitty/shoving you against a wall/nearly causing you to die :( im so sorry. anyway, let's never tell Jace any of this k?" and then proceeded to never acknowledge any of it again. by coa it's like it never happened at all. like it doesn't even get a mention in their inner monologues or anything. the one time it does come up is in tftsa due to Simon's incomplete memories & him being under the impression Alec doesn't like Clary. and when he brings it up to Alec his immediate response is this

what she means: will and jem only got five years together and throughout all of those jem was steadily dying. they became parabatai over a bet and only because jem was certain will would lose and he wouldn’t have to actually go through with it in fear of all the pain and sorrow he would cause will when he finally died. they were so in tune that they fell for the same girl and both stepped out of each other’s way when they realized. when jem was upset he threw his medicine into a fire and will stuck his hand in the flames to retrieve it because he refused to let his parabatai die. when will felt the bond break he almost gave up and the only thing that kept him going was the need to save tessa. when will’s parents died he sought out jem’s comfort as much as his wife’s (if not more so). he lost half of himself when he lost jem. he named his kid after jem (and jem did the same with wilhemina [mina]) and kept his dragon head staff and violin in a special room in the institute so that he’d always have a part of him near. he was very protective of it. when he died not only did jem show up but he was there to play him one more song on the violin. jem carstair’s violin was the last thing will herondale ever heard.

I wish CC could’ve split TLH into six different books like TMI. BC there’s way too much info and characters. I can’t keep track of them all! Also I feel like the copious amount of sigh plots, characters, relationships and backstories diverted our focus from the main storyline. Maybe I’m stupid, but two books later and I still can’t figure out who is related to whom and Which child belongs to which set of Lightwood parents. Also can somebody please explain to me, what the main plot of the goddamn series is? Is it the whole thing with the demon or is it the cursed bracelet?
