Addressing the lack of children in HDG

So, one of the more controversial aspects of HDG is that whenever the lack of children is bought up, there are generally two arguments that get bought up. The first is that "children in a kink setting are bad vibes" as if the mere existence of children would make the Affini act like pedophiles or smth. Keep in mind that this issue gets (rather poorly danced around) by the means of CG/L and ageplay anyway, so aesthetically, children (or child like sophonts) do exist in some capacity anyway. The other is that the presence of children would clash on a setting level with the domestication of the human species as a whole and that it would introduce eugenicist vibes (see: selective breeding or how we got from wolves to poodles and pugs). Now, while there is more of a strong bad vibes argument to be made here, I feel that both this and the previous point can be made moot by one simple change. Just...just have there be a rule in the Affini compact preventing the domestication of sophonts whose brains have not fully developed. Like, you can even make it a technological limitation of the haustorium in that it poses an undue risk to the sophont should it be applied to a brain that has not fully finished developing, or is still substantially underdeveloped. Like, you don't need to rule out the existence of children, and not putting children in kink scenarios should be, at bare minimum, something you as the author should be doing. But having that sort of worldbuilding absolutely removed as something you can use to paint descriptive narriatives is absurd. Like, even when it comes to Affini biorythms and the potential bad touch of a kid getting addicted to a Affini's biorythm, that can easily be explained away by the same mechanism as the afformentioned haustorium fix. If children are incapable of recieving an implant, the Affini have no reason to engineer their biorythm to affect children or adolescents. Like, holy shit people, it's not that hard to worldbuild around these potential ethical conflicts of putting the mere mention of a under-18 in a kink setting, and you can get cute scenes of, like, florets interacting with children and families. It's literally cutting off a large chunk of non-kink and non-problematic scene writing opportunities that are whimsical and kinda cute.

I think it's mostly the fear of putting children in a kink setting while large swaths of this community is trans and trans folks get accused of being groomers all the time.

So even attempting on putting something that could even vaguely resemble grooming (and considering many pieces of hdg writing insist that any sentient creature will want to become subservient to the affini that's kinda hard) could cause some of that to spill out into other areas and us who love this world don't want to have it be associated online with that kind of stuff.

I personally headcannon that if florets have kids those kids can be sent to a special boarding school that lets them grow into proper independants outside of affini influence so they can choose for themselves when they grow up, kinda like those alternative schools where students learn about what they're passionate about. Chances for recreation and friendships, found family and growing up to be the best version of yourself you can be.

TURNING POINT COMPACT

hmm... does this mean that an affini has a domconciousness instead?

A volenteer offers to be domesticated, so long as she has the same mistress as her girlfriend.

Her girlfriend is a rebel who doesn't know that their partner is on the affini's side.

This rebel is then hunted down by the affini.

They're chased through a spacestation, managing to put on an oxygen mask before the atmosphere is saturated in xenodrugs. They narrowly manage to jump away and sets the computer to auto jump away while the rebel has left with an escape pod which crashed on this planet where they meet up with other rebels, planning to leave on a ship as fast as possible.

Running from ship to ship, base to base, unknowingly helping the affini find the rebels that much faster.

Finally they're caught, they struggle and fight, determined that the affini brainwashed their wife and is holding them hostage only for their girlfriend to offer them to just give it a try, be a pet for 2 months, if they don't like it then they are free to leave. No xenodrugs only terran medicine after the affini give them a proper physical and diagnose them with a small laundry list of things that are physically wrong with them because what previously feral terran didn't have a million things wrong with them?

Both of them do start to feel better, yes the rebel tries to poke holes in the arguments of affini, including cotyledons and forced domestication but as their objections are cast aside as they fit almost perfectly into the roll of an affini's pet with their Pinnate alongside them. The two sign without complaint by the end of it all and get to be the good pets they always were destined to be~

it's always fun watching a floret and their owner go into a room where you 100% know there's no grass or anything like that and the floret comes back out covered in grass stains.

Like huns, we love it, but if you're trying to be sneaky maybe wear some darker colors?

it's almost as if they are saying "this is my WIFE and we FUCKED" which can be quite entertaining when they act like it didn't happen

Story concept: A floret thinks that they are hypnotised into doing things while their affini just keeps creating a sequence of irresistible situations for them and uses saltwater injections as placebo.

Maybe the terran keeps saying things like "I'd like to see you try domesticating a human without mind control" smugly

The affini is trying to figure out how long it will take for their floret to realise that there were no drugs involved and that their feelings are genuine. And the answer is surprisingly long because florets ego is working in the opposite direction, "the compact would fall in a week if mind control wasn't a thing, and I'd be leading the charge". The affini is internally also in a tug-of-war between utter amusement of seeing a floret work through her denial and wanting to shatter the illusion with a single real injection.

How did this come about? Well, maybe the affini in question was bored. Maybe they saw the florets browser history and got inspired. Or maybe they wanted to challenge themselves.
