I have decided to rewatch every single pixar movie released so far chronologically and draw a scene from each - here we have my entry for Coco (2017)

Héctor died at twenty-one.

Unless Imelda was seventy-nine, Coco lived longer than both of her parents combined.

My question is, has a person ever been confused thinking that Imelda is your mother, due to the fact that she is much older than you?

Hector: "Oh, You see… It's very hard for such a thing to happen in the land of the dead! I mean, there are so many people who tragically lose their lives earlier than expected… So it's not uncommon to see couples who appear very different in age! In short, it's normal here, usually we tend to interact without assuming what the family ties are between the members of a specific family, so if you need to know, you always ask..."

"...BUT… It wasn't our case! Yep… Unfortunately it happened in a way! Our situation was very particular, Imelda has a large clientele and many people know her and consequently know all about our family… I had the "newcomer" period within the "shoe making" family-business and well… They all thought I was the nephew at first!"

Imelda: "Hector, I'll take care of the clients! Please, place these in the shelf of the shoes to restore and polish!"

Hector: "Third shelf on the right! I got it! Consider it done!"

Customer: "Poor dear! The boy is so young! Is he your nephew right?"

Imelda: "Ehmmm... No, actually, he's my husband... We haven't been together for a long time but......"

Customer: "Oh, Wait... What? Is that the man who abandoned you with a little girl to raise?!?!" 😠

Imelda: "........ Si... I mean NO! It's a long story! Many things have changed now!" 😳

My headcanon is that it must not have been easy for Hector in the early days! Some customers, especially the ladies friends of Imelda, were confused by this reconciliation...! 😅

I haven’t read enough Imector fics to know if this sort of thing has been addressed enough but if it hasn’t then we need more fics that address this 😂😂

This is not official! I don’t even really know if this even looks good enough that I’d need to say that, but, y'know, just in case, no, this is not official. This is an idea that’s been nagging at me for a while and wouldn’t go away, so I finally decided to make a mock-up poster for it.

And to get this out of the way, yes, I did trace a bit–Imelda was partially traced from Miguel and the Amazing Alebrijes and Héctor was partially traced from the sticker set. … And then most of the background was painted over the original poster I made this from. I wanted to emulate the Miguel and the Amazing Alebrijes style and make sure I got the setup of the poster right, so a bit of tracing was necessary. With that out of the way…

I’ve daydreamed a lot about the idea of a Coco animated series and what it would entail. In all likelihood, if there ever WERE an animated series, it would probably be focused on Miguel and/or Socorro, post-movie, with B-plots featuring Héctor and the rest of the dead Riveras, and maybe occasionally Ernesto. I would guess that would be the thing Disney/Pixar would most likely go with if something like this ever happened, because kids like Miguel and would want to see him in a cartoon.

But even so, another idea struck me… What if a Coco animated series focused on… well… Coco? What if it was a prequel series? Again, I know it’s probably not likely, but… hear me out!

Imelda sings a verse from “La Llorona” when onstage, to Héctor.

Part of it goes:

Y aunque la vida me cueste llorona

No dejaré de quererte

Which translates as:

“And even if it costs my life, weeping woman

I won’t stop loving you.”

But it wasn’t loving that cost Imelda her life…

It cost Héctor his life.

It cost his life, but Héctor  never stopped loving Imelda or Coco.

He wanted to go home. Why did he want to go home? To see his wife and daughter. And Ernesto killed him for it.
