anti-ai people need to understand that the opposition communists have to luddism and reactionary sentiment isn't like, a moral one. the main problem with luddism is that it doesn't actually work. like when we say 'we mustn't try to fight against technology itself, we need to fight against the social system that makes it so that advancement in technology and labour-saving devices lead to layoffs' the reason we're saying it is because, if you try fighting the technology, you're going to lose, and you're still going to lose your job too. when you say 'yeah i understand your criticism but I'm still going to fight against AI' you very clearly did not understand the criticism, because the point is that it isn't even in your own self-interest, because it will not work. the fact that, even if it did work, it would only mean maintaining a privileged strata of 'skilled labour' above other workers is secondary -- because, again, flatly resisting technological advancement has never worked in history.
I really despise this whole "self-empathy is when you don't give a shit about anyone other than yourself" thing. How the fuck can you just say shit like this and not feel a little bit like a piece of shit? "My country supporting a genocide? Not my problem. People in my community facing bigotry? Not my problem. An ongoing pandemic of a highly contagious disease that tends to cause permanent damage in those infected? Not my problem." Sure, in the end a lot of people think like this, but it's another thing to be this shameless that you proudly say it out loud.
I hate the self-care-ification of being a selfish asshole so fucking much
Huh? Oh.
The DSA Military Contractor
incredible work from writers, journalists and historians coming together to critique the new york times' (and essentially all mainstream american media) coverage of the genocide in gaza.
this interview with rashid khalidi where he fact-checks the nyt fact-checker is such a wonderful summation of exactly what it's like talking to liberal zionists who are entirely convinced of their own totally fake version of history. they will really "well actually" you with completely incorrect information!! all the time!!!!!
people refuse to see the violence it takes to maintain the status quo as such and instead fear the hypothetical violence it will take to destroy it. they see the current order of things as a state of stasis and inaction, instead of as a violent order upheld by constant action, which can be undone by action
Text from Salam Animal Care’s tweet:
I am very disappointed.😩😭💔 It has been 5 months since the genocide😞😿💔, and now we have entered the sixth month😞😭😭💔, and there is no one who can stop this war.😓😡💔 My hair turned white from the sights I saw. We have tasted all kinds of humiliation, humiliation and killing.😭😓💔 Aren't we humans who love life? Life has become unbearable in #Gaza and we cannot stay here. We are dying slowly. 😭💔💔 Please, my friends, consider helping me and my family get out of #Gaza. I need your support🙏🆘, loyal people🫶🌹. We have not achieved a quarter of the goal yet😿😩🙏🆘🫂🫶

Zhukov shouldn't have stopped at Berlin for many reasons and this is one of them
seeing a lot of videos that are like “I didn’t know babies couldn’t have water” so here’s an incomplete list of things you need to know before having a baby
- the obvious, they can’t have water bc milk is incredibly high in water already so excess water leads to over hydration
- babies cannot have honey until 1
- if ur breastfeeding your kid and saving excess milk, make sure you label what you pumped in the morning vs at night bc your body produces different melatonin levels throughout the day and giving your baby daytime milk at night can make them more alert and fuck up their sleep schedule
- idk why ppl keep saying this but swaddling your babies or getting them those baby straight jacket things is not abuse. It chills them out cuz it reminds them of the womb
- babies have a dandruff like buildup on their head called cradle cap, and it’s very easy to deal with and remove with just some baby shampoo, a gentle scrub brush (MADE FOR BABIES!!) and a comb. It does need to be removed tho cuz it can be very painful after a while. This can also continue to happen late into toddlerhood it’s normal
- you have to clean out the creases of your baby’s skin and hands and feet they WILL collect dust😭😭
- you cannot bathe your baby until their umbilical cord naturally falls off. Use a warm damp rag until then
- tummy time is actually very important
- your baby might have a misshapen head at first (not all the time but sometimes) this will either sort itself out or they’ll need a corrective helmet ask your doctor
- I wouldn’t recommend having your baby leave the house very much until they’re at least 6 months old, especially if they’re born near cold and flu season cuz the common cold can kill a newborn
- you’re not an awful horrible person for having postpartum depression and it’s always a million times better to let your baby cry a few minutes longer than normal while you regain your composure than to freak out and give ur kid shaken baby syndrome
- you’re not an awful horrible person for giving your baby formula milk either
- don’t put shoes on your baby it’ll compromise their toe box and balance
- babies put every single thing in their mouths
- the easiest way to burp a baby is to hold them straight up (spine straight) and hold their head a bit higher
- always support their head they barely have necks
- if your baby fights away food, fights tummy time, vomits every single time you burp them, is gaining or losing an unreasonable amount of weight at a time, wheezes after eating, or goes red after eating, chances are they’re probably allergic to the type of milk they’re eating (again ask a doctor but these are just some signs it’s not just colic)
- they will wobble a lot when learning to do things but you gotta fight the urge to help them every single time cuz they gotta learn
- they’re not always spitting out baby food cuz they don’t like it they just don’t know how to eat. Like they don’t know how to push food down they only know how to stick their tongue out so be patient
- babies craniums are broken up into three parts at first that later fuse together, this is to help make birthing easier but it results in a small EXTREMELY sensitive spot in the top of their head that has no protection. This puts their brain at a high risk. Always protect their soft spot
- read to your baby!! Get cute bright colorful sensory books with sight words and read them to your baby it makes such a huge difference in their educational growth and will help them acquire a love for reading early on. And talk to them never shut up just say whatever comes to mind all the time this will strengthen their vocabulary growth also.
- babies poop like a lot. A lot. an unreasonable amount. Bring back up clothes and more diapers than you think
- no pillows or stuffies in the crib and only use a muslin blanket unless it’s especially cold to prevent suffocation
- babies kick reflexively until they’re out of their newborn scrunch (they stay womb shaped for a while) and if your baby is crying and pushing at the swaddle try letting them flail around for a minute
Yeag that’s all I can think of rn but yk
Adding a couple:
- The person who gave birth to the baby will have a massive mood swing crash three days later. Prepare for sobbing and/or panic attacks. It'll pass.
- about five weeks in, the baby will start acting constipated. It isn't constipated. It just got conscious control of its pooping muscles and it has to figure them out.
- carriers are wonderful. I liked ring slings and cloth wraps, but the buckle ones are great too. My babies all liked to ride on my back and watch me cook.
- breastfeeding can, very occasionally, induce a weird orgasm-like thing, because of the oxytocin. That only happened to me once but it freaked me out good and proper.
- six month old babies can have some normal foods, not just purees. Juicy things, like cantaloupe and oranges and steak, should be cut into biggish pieces for them to gum and suck dry. Cut off the top of a banana peel and they can hold it and nom on the exposed banana. Cooked broccoli is good too. So is scrambled eggs. Look up "baby led weaning" if you want to know more.
- babies can't have much salt until they're two I think? That one takes even longer than the honey thing.
- Banana shows up in poop looking like little black worms. Blueberries will dye poop red. Neither of these means your baby is dying, which tends to be your first response when you see alarming poops.
Blueberry poop stains.
We have a cloth diaper that has a purple spot from FOUR YEARS AGO. This diaper has seen two children and the stain is still there.
hey to anyone who sees this I’m consistently updating this with stuff as I remember it or think about it so if u see this check my blog under the ‼️‼️‼️ tag to use the updated version if you’d prefer <3
#this is all true#also i cant stress this enough nobody should be kissing your newborn#one hot trick for burping is tickle their backs#makes them wiggle and gets the gas moving#i have a handy chart of how much water in oz babies can have by month#if theyre not sleeping try stroking their nose or petting their forehead or eyelids softly#they forget. to close their eyes. do that and they pass out usually#and also they can have peanut butter pls it is a myth. if you dont introduce it#theyre actually at a HIGHER risk of allergies#and finally i promise nothing is wrong with you if you think oh my god i want to yeet this thing out the window#baby crying activates flight or fight basically just pass them off to someone else and go get a snack
It's so strange how we all have to just learn how to be alive and during that time we are dependent on the kindness of everyone else.
The war in Sudan has reached its 10th month. The war has been met with a global indifference or there has been no desire to act from many world leaders.
8 million people have fled their homes and millions of Sudanese people have emergency food insecurity, with 5 million people on the brink of famine. even the neighbouring country Chad has had to declare a food insecurity emergency due to the mass amount of Sudanese people that have fled to Chad. (By no fault of their own of course)
Faced with a media blackout which is over a week at this point we need to continue to amplify the voices and plight of the Sudanese people.

Highly rated charities providing humanitarian assistance in response to the 2023 Sudan conflict. Help support families in need.
List of highly rated charities that are providing Humanitarian Assistance to Sudan. Among those I've donated to are Doctors Without Borders, Sudan Relief Fund, and Project Hope, but there are others here to recommend as well.
I haven't seen anyone posting about this, but this is why esim donations are so important. This picture was shared by @mirna_elhelbawi both on her instagram and the eSim Donors broadcast channel (also on instagram). please consider donating an esim, as israel is actively trying to block palestinian voices from being heard. for more information check here, Mirna's own instagram, @connectinghumanity_, or gazaesims.com. there are esim plans as cheap as 10 dollars, and on her website you can find discount codes. they are running low on all kinds of esims but the top three on their priority list right now are nomad esims (middle east region or israel), holafly esims (egypt), and simly esims (middle east). you can check the order of priority on here, as it varies weekly.

Just this week in games:
- EA laid off 700 workers
- Sony laid of 900 workers
- Rockstar announces in-person work mandates for all employees (a 'soft layoff' that will force some staff to quit, which likely means that actual layoffs are forthcoming)
In 2023 6,000 games workers were laid off. Now in 2024 over 10,000 workers have been laid off, and there's still 10 months to go.
This is perhaps the worst year for video games ever.
PlayStation, Electronic Arts, and Microsoft are the latest companies to announce cuts
the darling Glaze “anti-ai” watermarking system is a grift that stole code/violated GPL license (that the creator admits to). It uses the same exact technology as Stable Diffusion. It’s not going to protect you from LORAs (smaller models that imitate a certain style, character, or concept)
An invisible watermark is never going to work. “De-glazing” training images is as easy as running it through a denoising upscaler. If someone really wanted to make a LORA of your art, Glaze and Nightshade are not going to stop them.
If you really want to protect your art from being used as positive training data, use a proper, obnoxious watermark, with your username/website, with “do not use” plastered everywhere. Then, at the very least, it’ll be used as a negative training image instead (telling the model “don’t imitate this”).
There is never a guarantee your art hasn’t been scraped and used to train a model. Training sets aren’t commonly public. Once you share your art online, you don’t know every person who has seen it, saved it, or drawn inspiration from it. Similarly, you can’t name every influence and inspiration that has affected your art.
I suggest that anti-AI art people get used to the fact that sharing art means letting go of the fear of being copied. Nothing is truly original. Artists have always copied each other, and now programmers copy artists.
Capitalists, meanwhile, are excited that they can pay less for “less labor”. Automation and technology is an excuse to undermine and cheapen human labor—if you work in the entertainment industry, it’s adapt AI, quicken your workflow, or lose your job because you’re less productive. This is not a new phenomenon.
You should be mad at management. You should unionize and demand that your labor is compensated fairly.
