We are the team of Caffeine Addiction, to introduce about what are the coffee culture in Johor Bahru, Johor. We would like to share about what types of specialty coffee familiar in JB, and also introduce what are the cafe most recommend to visit.
The Bliss
This is another cafe set on the second floor. This cafe is located nearby Sutera Mall.
This cafe using much wood to decoration and design. When you step in you will see a long wood table in counter. Besides the chairs, table and the board also decoration by wood. This lead customer fell more leisure.
They also have serving nice coffee, they buy the coffee beans from Singapore Artisan Roastery, for espresso base is Ethiopia Gelana Abaya with test honey, strawberry and mango flavor. For hand brew coffee, them serving Kenya Gichathaini with pomegranate and rhubarb of tasting notes. For another is Ethiopia Kochere Yirgachee G1 with testing note rosebuds, nectarine, and honey.
Also, they have served some meals like set lunch and dessert to the customers. Like the photo for the set lunch menu, also have serving lava cake and so.
The customers and coffee lovers who come here can enjoy their great coffee, also can fulfill the stomach. This is one great choice to visit it.

The Dose
The Dose cafe is located at Taman Ungku Tun Aminah, a few cafe set on the second floor.
The Dose cafe is a quiet place that leads customers to enjoy the atmosphere of the environment, foods, and coffee.
The coffee beans them using is imported from Singapore roasted beans. They always change their coffee beans to ensure the quality of the coffee. Like the day I visit is using mixed Brazil and Ethiopia, the body is medium, but the test is great. are medium, but the test is great.
Them also serving some of the hand brew specialty coffee. They also have stated that their specialty coffee taste will e fruity, nutty, chocolate, tea and more.
Who are coffee lovers lives around Taman Ungku Tun Aminah, this will be the place to enjoy a cup of specialty coffee.

AlleyLab Part 2
In part 2, I will introduce about the Alleylab provide us the cupping section. This This is a great experience to know more about the coffee.
This is the cupping room for cupping
First, for all, Elvin has given us some brief explanation about the cupping section. Coffee cupping, or coffee tasting, is the practice of observing the tastes and aromas of brewed coffee.
Elvin gives us a noted to record down what is the taste or smell flavor that each of the coffee beans has. The record like dry smelling, after adding hot water
First, Elvin gives us some text for smelling each of the tubes, and guest what are the flavor inside. This makes us have basic smelling text before smelling the coffee.
After that, we will start to smell the each of coffee beans before adding hot water, this called dry test. Next will start to add hot water, the water temperature will be around 93~94C will be better. Next will start to smell the flavor after adding water.
Next, before we tasting, Elvin will teach us to break the crust of the coffee using one of the preheated spoons, this action is the most flavor will be caught when breaking the crust. After that, Elvin will clean the crust and start to test the coffee.
Tasting note will be basically defined as three categories, acidity, body and aftertaste. Because we all are a newbie, so we just write down the flavor are consider as low, medium, and heavy only.
We have tested 6 type of coffee beans, the three showing Brazil Assuncao with natural sundry, Brazil Fazenda California with pulped natural and last Rwanda Kamiro with wash process. For another 2 types of beans is still proceed to roast and will come out soon in future. Lastly is the common coffee beans that using for the shops.
This is the great experience for us to enjoy and deep understanding about the coffee tasting. I special thanks to Elvin to give us the great opportunity to enjoy this activity.

Monsta Cafe
Monsta Cafe has been opened since 2009 in Bukit Indah. It is located at a corner lot which is easy to be located and the eyes catching cartoon attract children too. It is suitable for all age group especially family to visit.
Monsta cafe is a retro style cafe. There are two side of seat which reappear two different style of retro.
Cappuccino - is brewed with a single origin coffee bean called Colombia Excelso Huila Mirco/ct. It gives tasting notes of round body bright acidity, chocolate taste and smooth velvety texture. The coffee bean available for purchase but the amount is limited.
Monsta Cafe promote their foods and drinks with a well-designed menu. It arose the interest of customers to open the menu. Inside the menu, informative writing and photo about coffee is well stated.

A. Felix - Coffee bar & bistro
A. Felix (Arabia Felix) is a cafe and bistro located in residential area of Seri Alam. The cafe is opened in June 2015 when the building is just completed. It is a non-bustling street as there is less shop opened nearby and there is a lot of parking lot. One who seek for quiet and comfort place can pay visit regularly.
The decoration of the cafe is minimalist yet modern. The seat are well placed at each side of the shop which gives a neat and tidy view.
Cold Brew Hazelnut - brewed by mixed bean of Colombia and Ethiopia coffee bean. It gives taste note of a little bit sweetness. It gives taste note of a little bit of sweetness and hazelnut.
A. Felix also serve other foods and drinks.
An old coffee machine is placed at the corner for decoration. There are also plenty of art pieces placed right after you enter the shop.

COFFEE: NOWHERE - A journey of excellence
Coffee Nowhere is established in 2013 and it is located in Taman Gaya. The cafe is founded by Welson, the CEO of Coffee Nowhere. He expect to further expand his business in China.
The cafe give a warm ambiance as the light is quite dark inside. The wooden furniture and renovations gives a natural feeling when you sit down. It was inspired by the humble stable in the story of Nativity.
Cafe Latte - it gives a mild milky taste along with acceptable bitterness of coffee. It is suitable for customers who like less strong coffee. The bubble formed in process is fine and smooth after sipping the coffee.
Coffee Nowhere also provide roasted coffee bean for customers to choose from. The recent coffee bean is Finca Argentina. Its origin is El Salvador which is a country located in Central America. The tastes of the bean are creamy, cherry bakewell and sweetness.

AlleyLab Cafe - Part 1
Alleylab is one of the cafes that I strongly recommended for coffee lovers. This cafe is Coffee Expertise, them serving their own roasting single origin coffee beans to the customers.
Alleylab before is open at Setia Eco Garden, now have grand new open in Molek， and the old place still using for roasting coffee beans.
The decoration is the simple, clean, and peaceful environment to let the customers relax and enjoy their coffee.
Roaster-barista-owner, Elvin is one of the most passionate, coffee-obsessed persons. His enthusiasm for all things Arabica is infectious. All coffees served at AlleyLab are personally roasted by Elvin.
There is much information I collect by Elvin, Elvin has a passion for sharing his knowledge and information with others. Also, Elvin has given us having cupping section, this I will share in part 2.
The coffee Alleylab using mostly is Arabica coffee with different main flavor like floral, fruity and nutty for hand-brew coffee and espresso base. Alleylab gives more choice to the customer can choose what are the flavor them wan for their coffee.
Besides that, them also serving light dessert and foods like homemade cakes, sandwich and so on.
Who are the coffee lovers and experts wishing to have a good a cup of coffee, this place will let you be satisfied!

JWC - The Factory 30
Just Want Coffee - The Factory 30 located at industrial area of Taman Mount Austin. It is a eyes catching building with red color paint, so it is easy to find the location. The Factory 30 is opened since 2014.
The refurbished factory concept cafe is surrounded by industrial warehouses which can only be reach by car. This is a huge cafe with a nice V-shape bar counter for customers who like to chat with barista. Seating area is spacious as the cafe is double decking.
There is a exhibition area in the upper deck and the recent items exhibited are the works collection design by students.
The Classic Cold Brew by JWC is a must try when you visit. There are few flavors to choose from such as mocha, latte, and greentea.. The ordered flavor is Classic Cold Mocha which is my all time favorite drink. It is a little bit milky and taste like chocolate milk. The bottled mocha must be shook evenly before taking. The Classic Cold Brew is available for take away.

La Strada Coffee - Sentosa
La Strada Coffee in Sentosa is opened in January 2017. It is owned by Shoon Huat Bak Kut Teh which sit beside it. “Coffee is a journey, each cup of coffee has a story of its”. La Strada Coffee believes that making coffee is like a journey, enjoy it and make yourself a good memories of a coffee.
Left side of the shop is a small bar and display for cakes, coffee and decorations while the other side is seat.
The coffee orders is latte which taste wonderful and the coffee bean used by LS Coffee is different each time they purchase. The recent coffee bean they used is Terra Firma by Papa Palheta which is roast type of coffee bean. It gives taste of Jackfruit, Strawberry Jam, Malt, and Chocolate which is suitable for sweetness lover.

KOLLA COFFEE - Purveyors of fine coffee
Kolla coffee located at Permas Jaya right beside The Toast Restaurant and the cafe is beside a main road which is easy to be located. Kolla was founded on 2016.
Wide glass door and high ceiling give a spacious feeling to visitors while having coffee.
Kolla Coffee also provides private meeting room prior to booking. The room is suitable for 10 pax with minimum spending of RM400.
The recent coffee bean purchased are El Salvador from Sprezzatura Coffee and Ethiopia Kochere from Bean Reserve. El Salvador is a Arabica coffee bean. It gives aroma of fruity with strawberry, tart cherry, red apple. With floral notes in the aroma, the Ethiopia Kochere give the taste of jasmine, passion fruit, and vanilla and a balanced acidity and creamy body.
Kolla Coffee will have 2 or 3 types of hand brew coffee bean for customers to choose from in each month.

COFFEE SIGNATURE
Coffee Signature located in Taman Pelangi. Coffee Signature is a container cafe, so do expect to be seated in crammed conditions, and it’s definitely not suitable for people with claustrophobia haha.
Coffee Signature’s black container is not hard to miss, but if you’re driving, you’ll only notice it when you’re relatively near as it is such a small container sandwiched between comparatively huge shops. There is a small and tight parking space right in front of their cafe.
There is an outdoor sitting area full of cactuses as well, which I can only imagine myself chilling, while sipping a cup of hot latte in a cold weather.
They used the Arabica as their coffee beans. This coffee is tend to have a sweeter, softer taste. The smell is very nice and I don’t add any sugars inside the coffee.

FIFTY TREES
Fifty Trees is located in Taman Melodies. The design of this cafe is quite classic. The environment is comfortable and clean. Most importantly, their services are very good.
This is the most special design in this cafe and why they named the cafe “ Fifty Trees”.
They used Guatemala as their coffee beans. The coffee has a rich chocolatey-cocoa flavour, and a toffee-like sweetness and I also can taste the smoky, spicy, and chocolaty flavors swirled in this cup of coffee.

The Brew Orchestra
The Brew Orchestra claimed as the best café in Johor Bahru. The unique and dark decoration of this café was inspired by grand concert halls. It’s proprietor awarded Malaysian Aeropress Championship in The year 2014. The Brew Orchestra has a nice, warm and comfortable environment for the customer to get relax their mind and take a sip of coffee.
The Brew orchestra have serving import hand brew coffee from another country. Like Gesha, one of high-quality coffee beans in the world. They always try their best to give the most perfect tastes coffee to customers. Like this week serving Ethiopia Gesha Village with flavor apricot, honeydew and jasmine tea, second Ethiopia Layo Teraga with flavor jasmine, mandarin and yuzn; lastly is Ethiopia Kochere G1 with flavor rosebuds, nectarine, and honey. I try Ethiopia Kochere G1, the after drink will left sweetness in your mouth.
Although cannot see the champion makes coffee for me, the barista on in charge of that day also making the great hand brew coffee for me.
Besides that, The Brew orchestra every Tuesday have an event called Tuesday Brew Omakase. This event will start every Tuesday 8.00pm to 9.30pm, lets the coffee lover who join to taste every new coffee beans newly Purchase, will charge around RM40 – RM50+.
So all coffee lover please come and visit will have a nice experience to enjoy the coffee east.

Vanilla Bean
Vanilla Bean is located inside Senibong Cove, a cluster of marina residential developments just 30 minutes drive from the JB CIQ. It is easy to get here with a navigation app like Waze etc. Vanilla Bean is located in a shop lot at the ground level of WaterEdge, a highrise condominium. It is just about 100 metres straight ahead from the guard house.
Simple shop front. Vanilla Bean is right beside the 7-11 shop.
Inside Vanilla Bean, the layout and furnishings are simple, neat and clean. Customers sit on one side and they have full view of the barista and pâtisser team at work making all the food and drinks.
I had a Colombian Cuatro Esquinas cappuccino. The coffee tasted fruity, chocolaty and sweet. I enjoyed it. This coffee is used Colombian coffee bean.

Vamos Coffee Roastery
Vamos Coffee Roastery located in Sri Tebrau, JB. It is a most fascinating place and not an ordinary cafe. Vamos is actually not very visible from the road. It is behind Kronoz Denim Store and Vito Hair Dressing Salon. Parking is also very limited. To get to Vamos, walk to the narrow side lane to the right of Kronoz. Vamos is just beyond that grill leading to the backyard. A roasting machine stands guard at the gate.
Stepping into Vamos, it felt more like an alchemist's secret lab than yet another run of the mill cafe. Set up in the back yard of a converted bungalow, it's actually very cosy here. A great place to chill.
Vamos uses 100% Arabica coffee beans and roasts all their own Arabica which they supply to cafes in Johor and Singapore. The taste of this coffee is a bit sweet and smooth. LIVING ROOM CAFE - PELANGI
Living Room Cafe located in Jalan Kuning, Taman Pelangi. The environment is very nice and the staffs were friendly too.
Adorned with sofa seats and low tables with unpretentious fittings, overhanging greens and water feature, this establishment boasts a living room environment that makes chilling or working here akin to spending time at our own premises, and anyone feels right at home.
True to its name, the Living Room Cafe is decorated in a decadent, spacious living room style, laid out with sturdy wooden furnishings, cushy sofas, warm lighting with glass everywhere and lounge music on the stereo. The outdoor area is modern, with concrete features contrasting nicely with the green surrounds
The coffee beans that they used are 70% of Arabica and 30 % of Robusta. The taste is quite bitter and suitable for those who don’t like sweet coffee. Robusta beans have more of an astringent flavor and contain a higher amount of caffeine while Arabica beans have half the amount of caffeine as Robusta and have more pleasing flavours and aromatic properties.
