do you think data would have been able to come to terms with his existing humanity and stop focusing on the alleged limitations of his android body if he had been able to spend time around people who didn't constantly judge him for every minor social faux pas

basically every scene I've seen of data and the crew interacting has been about data doing something that's not even wrong or harmful but it's slightly out of line from how other people do it and everyone is like "haha oh silly data, that's not how normal humans do things! ;)" and its almost like they expect me to care about this difference or something

Data isn’t autistic coded solely for Brent Spiner’s acting or even how Data is written, how the rest of the crew acts towards him is how he manages to stand out among autistic coded characters.

If you have autism you can be exemplary in your field, a genius that proves time and time again that you’re necessary to your workplace’s function and yet you still get treated like you’re a child. Scolded for not fitting in right by people who think that they’re close enough to you to do that. That’s the autism experience. Belittlement reaching you no matter how successful you become.
