A million channels and nothin’ on.
Wanna thaw out on this snow day? Stand next to my new campfire. Circled it with river stones that may or may not be veined with gold. This is the first major work from the exhibit “Brave Knew World”. The earth is in a state of daily flux that is challenging to observe, document, let alone experience. The epic catastrophes, disasters, and pandemic are virtually impossible to navigate as adults, so I am trying to create works that will help children understand and eventually deal, most hopefully solve what we can’t one day. I’m exploring the myths we cling to comfort, deny or manage our way through without losing our collective humanity. The bleakness of the forecast is balanced by the medium that most humans can relate to, the crayon. Crayons cannot be broken down in a landfill, so utilizing hundreds of thousands of them in various installations and sculptures adds a sense of optimism for the future and in my own small way contributes to lessening our collective ecological footprint. Even the simplest sculpture of a campfire that provides safety and comfort as far back as history allows, now has new meaning. #firstfire #art #sculpture #fluxism #braveknewworld @museelouvre @themuseumofmodernart @guggenheimbilbao @artinamerica @artnews @sculpture_magazine (at Nashville, Tennessee) https://www.instagram.com/p/CLUksFvhz4Z/?igshid=x1d8i3hmsudm

Color moves me. Perspective can alter everything. Creation to inspiration to perspiration, life can surprise you, but only if you look up and see it. (at Smith Lake, Cullman al) https://www.instagram.com/p/CK3yBANBcQC/?igshid=63w1of0s340p
A thousand years from now when archaeologists unearth my Venus of Glacial Melt I hope they appreciate that our generation finally stepped up to fight climate change. Special thanks to #katemoss @katemossagency for modeling for Venus. And a big shout out to @davidattenborough you are the GOAT. Great conceptual art.
Anyone else experiencing unusual or mysterious emotions instead of existential dread today? I can’t quite put my finger on it, but it feels strangely familiar yet I can’t quite identify it. #joy #hope #calm #love #peace #kindness #art #crayons (at KOKOS Plant Based Ice Cream) https://www.instagram.com/p/CKUj0MYBPxe/?igshid=1kx5fvfxc39jm
Solid quarantine feels. Sculptor @milena_naef dissecting her medium to a new level. In the ultimate act of choreography with nature, the Swiss artist searches for the perfect bond of body and mind with luscious sheets of marble. #art #sculpture #conceptualart #artcuratorgram https://www.instagram.com/p/CJtOyqmhJTs/?igshid=mzo1vrcclne2

I cannot think of better paintings to post today than the new series of oils by Robert Mullenix. These layered cut-canvas paintings are flooded with symbolism. Words like “yet” or “wait” are covered by a rising, tumultuous sea. Powerful work that is now more relevant than ever. #art #climatechange #socialcommentary #risingsealevels #artgretawouldlove (at The Rymer Gallery) https://www.instagram.com/p/B2zlg6LhvEw/?igshid=1jnnybk8y4snz
Can you hear me now? I am tired of putting my ear to the ground listening for what may come. I want the ground to listen to me now. New sketch for a new series. #callofthewild #listeningtocolor (at Nashville, Tennessee) https://www.instagram.com/p/B0UP3_ahxcH/?igshid=1qlwzjzk98qms
#ghosttrophy #callofthewild I am so in love with this new “ghost trophy”. It embodies everything of where I’ve been moving towards in art. The street art animals I started around the city bc the urban jungle forced out the animals from their natural habitat and I long to see more wild creatures at my local watering holes. The stripes embody the concept that nature is constantly communicating through a spectrum of colors only they can perceive. We’re too busy plugging into our own social networks to notice. Finally the ghost antler trophy sculpture represents finding the mystery and majesty in honoring what is truly miraculous and right in front of us, only after we have pushed it so far into the corners of society or wipe it out entirely. Need new art for your bumper/helmet/guitar case/laptop/ phone case? I’ve got not one, but FIVE new custom die-cut 3” vinyl stickers! They are $5 each or 5 for $20. So I’ve found my new favorite artist. Please @mayordavidbriley invite @studiobenedetto to do an artist residency here in Nashville? I’ll be happy to swap places for a month and go to France and leave some crayon art there while he leaves us some new swimming holes. #artcuratorgram #installationart (at Nashville, Tennessee) https://www.instagram.com/p/BzJYpQVBO7A/?igshid=1uw5udn2bh4x4
Aaron Douglas painted the “Song of the Towers” mural in the Brooklyn Public Library for the WPA in 1934. His work lives on today in the collection of Fisk University here in Nashville. This is my homage to his work in crayons. Douglas dealt with issues such as segregation, slavery, equality, mass production, urbanization, and how to retain our humanity in an increasingly industrialized world. #aarondouglas #fisk #juneteenth #nashville #wpa (at Nashville, Tennessee) https://www.instagram.com/p/By5Ul_Hhica/?igshid=1ak1fvrr6f3sk
