A Guide to the Perfect Bath - In 6 Easy Steps
This comic was made with the intention of having people new to bathing as the primary audience. It is also intended for people who have bathed before, but just need a guide to maximize their enjoyment during their bathing sessions. The primary objective was to make a fun new guide to bathing that highlighted the importance of certain aspects such as bubbles, music, and candles.
I had never made a comic strip like this before, so it was an interesting medium to experiment with. I tried to make it a point to toy with the font size, boldness, and placement of the text in the comic with the hopes of making certain key words pop out. I also chose to show sound, motion, and light with lines of action. I felt that this really helped the viewer understand and visualize the ideas that I was trying to convey.
There were many challenges that arose while creating the comic that I would have never thought about before doing it. Things like symmetry, space for text, layout, and recreating the main character all made me have to think outside the box and figure out new ways of drawing my ideas. One of the largest challenges that I had was in regards to the level of detail. When I started, I was unsure of how much detail I should devout to certain props and characters and it made me really think ahead in terms of planning.
When I took pictures of the comic I tried to get the same exposure in each photo, but for some reason it changed as it focused. I did go in and edit some of the darker photos to change the exposure and brightness to be somewhat uniform across the board, but it was difficult to match it perfectly across the board. Also, after taking the pictures and playing with the exposure I went in a cropped each photo so each box was framed as the whole picture. This was mainly because I knew that I was going to be posting it on tumblr and I wanted it to be easy to read as a viewer.
In all the excitement of finishing the comic and taking pictures of them, I made a critical error in not going through my work and editing it before finalizing it. As a result, the final product is a little bit sloppy with some spelling and grammar mistakes. In the future I will remember to go back through and ensure that I spellcheck my work.
Overall, it was a great learning experience in creating this how to guide to bathing and I would give it another shot in the future as a medium for organizing and expressing my thoughts. Hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed creating it.
