So I teach the most adorable little monsters on Fridays. Our lessons this month were on food, so they had to practice vocab by asking a partner what they wanted on their parfait, etc First: A picture of what a fruit parfait SHOULD look like. Second: Although entertaining, this is not a fruit parfait Third: I don't want a vegetable parfait. Fourth: Poop. That is a poop parfait. I did not order poop. WHY DID YOU GIVE ME POOP

Like there are many ways to say the word "lazy" but one of them directly translates as "my butt is heavy" and if that isn't the most accurate description ever then I don't know anything anymore
Today was a great day
Usually whenever I try to figure out how the fuck pensions and health insurance and bills are paid the clerk always speaks to me in rapid formal Japanese, like why, you know that shit isn't gonna fly with me, have you seen my white face?
But today at the post office (where bills and shit are paid) the clerk was younger and more understanding, like I suppose she felt less inclined to use ONLY super-complicated-honorific Japanese with a bunch of government vocabulary as I'm sure her job description says she should, and used clear, simple, easy to understand Japanese instead
And now I know everything about everything and no longer suck at being an adult
...until I tried to buy coffee (using perfect Japanese, this was my major gdi) and the clerk was like COFFEE. BITTER. MILK, YOU CUP, THERE like, ok I could've 分かりましたd that in Japanese but thank you

I caught a 6th grade boy reading erotic manga today!
I CANNOT STOP LAUGHING
He was hiding it under the desk to read it secretly (since it's obviously not allowed in school) during the chaos of lunch clean up time, so no one really noticed him. I only noticed because I saw his two buddies giggling and trying to take a peek too, so I snuck over to see what they were looking at only to see a picture of a cartoon girl whose panties are showing as her skirt blows in the wind~~
I thought I was going to fall over laughing
His two buddies noticed that I saw and was laughing at the situation instead of taking it seriously like I probably should have been, so then they geeked out laughing at the boy for getting caught by me, the foreign teacher they don't take seriously at all and who isn't allowed to discipline kids for anything anyway. The boy then realized I was standing behind him laughing, so I asked him in Japanese "Hey, what's that?" and he hid it again while mumbling "it's nothing."

Today my bosses came to observe my lesson to see how I'm doing.
I knew they were going to come, so the first thing I did this morning was put on some lucky underwear to make me feel badass. :DD
I felt less confident as my morning passed with a series of unfortunate events,like splitting my chapped lips, spilling coffee on my floor, and attempting to make breakfast only to realize some of my eggs had gone bad (I had some fresh ones to replace it though so I still had a delicious breakfast)
i was so nervous during my lesson, but it actually went really well! In the follow up meeting, I was given some advice on little things I could do to improve stuff overall, but was told that basically I did an AMAZING job, they were extremely impressed with my control over the classroom and response from the students, and that the teachers had given my bosses a bunch of compliments about me, with the only complaint being that I arrive to school too early (wtf?)
But what really made me feel special was when they said they were so happy to have found me for this position. The teacher I replaced was so well loved and good at her job, that they knew they needed to find someone as good or better than her. They spent months looking for someone until my application came in, and they said they JUMPED on it and feel they couldn't have found a better person for these schools I teach at.
My thoughts during the meeting were just a constant rant of OMG YOU LIKE MEEEEE I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU REALLY LIKE MEEEEEEEEEEEE

... my only issue with it (though it would be the same issue for any car in Japan really) is that as an American, I'm used to having my turn signal on the left. So EVERY TIME I try to signal I hit my wind wiper lever instead and look like a total dumbass
My kids are absolute nerds in the most wonderful of ways
One random little 5th grader followed me in the hallway for a bit today, keeping a certain distance and mumbling when I said hello to him. He looked like he wanted to saying something, so I bent down and asked him. He leans over and whispers in my ear, "tomato" before quickly shuffling off down the hallway again as I shout behind him "Good English!" (it was a vocab word in the last lesson. Still adorably weird though)

I feel like I can really relate to this gif. Like the cute smiling girl who may or may not be feeling secondhand-embarrassment from something stupid she's viewing resembles my students, and the freak running in front across the camera is me trying to make class fun.
When you're sitting in the teacher's office alone except for the vice principal, and you're trying to plan fun lessons by including characters like Naruto, Pikachu, Jibanyan, or Luffy in the lesson, and then suddenly and awkwardly burst into laughter as your train of thought is completely wrecked with YAH YO YAAAAAAAAAAAH YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH and you try to give up the thought but then it's like GIVE IT UP GIVE IT UP GIVE IT UP GIVE IT-- NOOOOOO! I was trying so hard not to laugh and I think I just looked constipated
Training week part 2
Training took place in Iidabashi, Tokyo. It's beautiful!
When we weren't doing in training learning how to be effective English teachers, we were out in the city, going to Izakaya and doing whatever the fuck we wanted really. Acting weird on the train, acting weird on the streets, and just being awesome gaijin in general.
I miss these nerds.

But we all got through it okay! Then it was off to our separate ways.
Everyone at training was sent in different directions, so we only keep in touch through LINE and facebook now. I think the closest one living to me is and hour and a half away :(
But, a new adventure begins! On December 8th, I moved to my new home in Tsuchiura Ibaraki!
Super interac update
I'm drunk and bored time to update all the things that happened in the past month Okay so first off, I was TERRIFIED of training week because we were all forced to watch like 7 hours of video of this guy Cedric and it was so boring I thought I was gonna die, and I read all this terrifying shit online how training was brutal and everyone hated it and quit and went home Then we arrive at training and it was a freaking joke. And by joke I mean it was literally hilarious
I mean we learned stuff that didn't actually apply to any of our jobs but and we had to be serious about learning, but we still had fun

but he is literally the freaking best and we all love him now. He speaks like 12 languages fluently from traveling the world, he's a vegan and thinks natto tastes good mixed with bananas, and he'll speak entire English sentences only to end with a ね or a だよ All the trainers and bosses are pretty chill too. They have great senses of humor and sarcasm.

Crap, the wine I was drinking while setting p shit in my apartment gave me a buzz (and I smoked a cigarette) so when I tinkled in the toilet I giggled. A lot.

Interac Day 1
After like a thousand things going wrong with my flights and body functions and arriving in Japan super late and having some random punkass chick on the sidewalk throw her purse at me (accidentally but she was still a bitch), I finally got to the hotel Interac is so kind to provide for me!
The Korakuen Hotel is just a 5 minute walk from the Tokyo Dome but its on a back street off the main road that's just a weeee bit sketch.
But it really is a nice hotel! I love my room~ (pictures will be posted later) and I got a really good breakfast included with my stay for free~ (無料is the best kanji in the world)
But for some reason I can't find any other foreigners! Like I'm in the middle of Tokyo, there should be gaijin everywhere! There was more around than I could stand last year!
But yeah even though this hotel is where all the foreign people doing Interac should be staying, I haven't seen anyone not Japanese other than a bunch of Chinese people who said "Ni Hao" to me on the elevator, which was nice but really disorienting.
But maybe this hotel is just a good spot for Chinese people to stay. The free breakfast I had this morning was in the hotel's Chinese restaurant! (so I have no idea if my first breakfast in Japan was Chinese or Japanese in style, siiiigh)
Orientation starts in 45 minutes so I need to practice my First Lesson that I've barely glanced at. Here's to starting my new life in the best way possible! With procrastination! Wooot woot~
