Whaaat had even prompted this in particular...? Honestly the fact he has to stop and think about it, probably speaks more volumes than it should. But he does look baffled at Vermillion while he is stuck wondering exactly what's earned him that sort of look and tone.
"First of all... there's usually a reason behind things I do, so I am curious about what you're critiquing from me."
"Second of all, you've really never done anything reckless yourself?"
"Even now, I want to keep breathing, but everyone keeps comparing me to you." It's not arrogant, or angry. Or even cold. It was stated matter-of-factly. "You know, the other day Lance called me by your name. You don't like him much either, do you?"

It's difficult to define how it is he feels, when Vermillion decides to speak to him. He was glad that there was less need to attempt to keep things under wraps now, he seemed lot less wary compared to previous times. But Red still was trying to figure out how it is he should try to interact with Vermillion, as he listened to the situation his...technical son, had been put into.
It truly was hard to get used to that fact, even as it quite literally stared at him in the face. With a resemblance that was as impossible to deny as it had been the first day he'd seen him.
But talking about a familiar topic gives him something to work with, at least.
"Not really," he answers honestly. "I'm not sure he remembers frankly, but he was a real piece of work when I was acting as the Indigo Plateau Champion. Didn't really make it a secret that he wanted the job, and didn't think highly of a kid having it instead. Even if he lost fair and square; twice in fact."
"He wasn't the only reason why I decided to leave, but he didn't really help things anyway. Considering it's been years he probably doesn't think about that period of time much now, but yeah. Lance and I don't have a great history."
