I think one of my favorite parts of writing queer stories in fantasy universes – and to be clear, if im writing a story, its a queer one – is navigating the world's language around queerness. Dorian's "I prefer the company of men" and the conversation you can have with Krem come to mind, but queer history is also just so great for exploring different language real people used to describe themselves and their relationships before "modern" queer culture developed its quest to codify and contextualize anything it can. I love talking about social concepts in abstraction, finding ways to have these concepts come up naturally in character interactions, rotating characters in my mind and thinking about the character study and the worldbuilding potential inherent in the question, "how does this person describe their own experience?"

On April 16th 2025 the US federal government has proposed to change the interpretation of the endangered species act so that it no longer protects habitat.

This is open for public comment until the end of May 19th. Please comment and make your voice heard.

Wildlife need their habitat. If the ESA redefines harm so that habitat is no longer protected, the implications for wildlife would be catastrophic.

where it started/how it's going: my atelier.

i bought a house at the end of 2022. it was a collection of white boxes and a few very interestingly wallpapered bathrooms. i've spent the time since then doing whatever the hell i want with the space. the first photo in this series was taken in april 2023, and the last was taken sometime in february 2025.

this room is south-facing and gets glorious sunlight for most of the day. i made both of my vash cosplays in it. it's still a work in progress, but i'm of the opinion that a maker's making space is never really "finished" and i'm still making adjustments to how i store things and what lives where. i have a box of swords and assorted props that i need to hang somehow. the closets need reorganizing for the second or third time. my sewing machine is in the living room right now.

the mess drives me kind of crazy, but i often start working on something and then the house needs me to deal with something else. i've been trying to practice reminding myself that none of this is going anywhere. i don't have to finish everything in a day. i deal with a lot of chronic issues and am usually stretched thin, but that's fine. i can get to it later.

i want to share my progress and glimpses of the spaces i've built because i, for one, think they're really fucking cool. so i'm hoping to go room by room and then post updates as they develop. but we'll see how that pans out i guess!!!!!!
