people say trans men dont do anything for the queer community or that trans men just go stealth and abandon other trans people but two trans men are suing Kansas state for civil rights violations after they stripped trans people of their driver's licenses
ive seen people report this as "two transgender individuals" they are TRANS MEN. ftm transgender men. degendering them by calling them "individuals" enforces our erasure and invisibility. I hope they win and the licenses of transgender kansans are reinstated, I hope its remembered as a historic civil rights case, and I hope their identities as trans men are never stripped from them in the retelling of this story.

this IS trans people getting erased from public existence. trans folks in Kansas getting stripped of their ID is getting stripped of the legal recognition of their identity. and when you ignore the gender identities of these two Kansas trans men who are suing the state and refer to them as a nebulous, degendered "transgender individuals" you are also stripping them of their gender identity. they are about to enter the legal battle of their lives to insist on their right to be seen as legally men and have their name and correct gender marker on their government ID, how can you pretend to care about that fight if you dont even want to call them trans men?? like, all of this is connected, its the very same issue.
sometimes I get depressed about the high cost of living here but you will have to drag me out of the PNW kicking and screaming. so glad I fled here years ago, at least I feel vaguely safe in this area
the flipside of that post about lost media is the multiple people i've met who couldn't seem to get their heads around the fact that lost episodes of Doctor Who are actually lost lol
one of them seemed to be under the impression that these episodes were acquirable online if you were good enough at piracy? i'm like no I can guarantee you that's not the case. they aren't 'lost' in the sense of not having an official release. the tapes were wiped. they're gone.
then just recently i was talking the film is fabulous situation w a friend and mentioned that one issue is that anyone in possession of a copy of a lost Doctor Who episode technically has stolen property and she was very surprised because she assumed that surviving copies had been 'taped off the television' and I'm like Dear God were it that simple. no the episodes were aired one (1) time and then the tapes were wiped and all this before home media was invented. they're gone baby!!
i think in the internet age some people do just struggle w the idea of truly lost media? it seems unfathomable now that something could just disappear but it's like yeah if it predates home video it's gone.
so. not to doxx myself (i've talked about this here before though) but i live in Kansas. and my license was just revoked very suddenly and immediately because i'm trans and had changed my gender marker.
so now i cannot legally drive or vote until/unless i let them force me to carry around a card that misgenders me and outs me as trans, because i certainly don't look female anymore.
so hey if you have the means and want to help with any of this, please consider donating to the ACLU of Kansas because they are at least going to try to do something to push back against this, and i'm such a panicky wreck that the only thing i can do to get through my immediate gut reaction to having my license revoked tonight (i cannot stress enough that i received the letter today saying that my license is no longer valid tomorrow) is focus on the fact that there's at least one entity trying to protect me and my fellow trans kansans.

Hey Bri I hope you don't mind me sharing this on your post but in case anyone reading this is in Kansas or knows trans people in Kansas, Colorado is nearby and considered one of the safest states for trans & queer people. I know relocating is logistically expensive and challenging for many reasons, especially for people in a vulnerable situation, but if it is an option anyone is considering, there is a nonprofit here that may be able to help.

Overnight it will become illegal for trans people in Kansas to drive their cars. They can be arrested and, if convicted, face upwards of 6 months in prison with a $1000 fine. While in prison, as this is Kansas, they will be jailed according to their gender at birth. If they try to flee the state without surrendering their license, they cannot get a new one in a different state until they surrender their old one because the licenses are part of a national registry. And this is part of the bathroom bounty bill, which allows people to sue anyone they think is in the wrong bathroom.
God i get so tired of explaining to people that 'queer' is a culture.

Look, it's simple. If a person has to actively work to make money, they're not "the rich" and they're not the problem. A surgeon making $200k a year still stops making money if they stop showing up to do surgery, because they're still selling their labor. The radical discrepancies in how we value different skills are certainly a problem, but the guy who makes money when he doesn't even get out of bed is the one making money on the value of other people's labor.

in times of turmoil it is very easy to feel like theres nothing you can do to help, especially if you are far away, but i promise buckaroo EVERYTHING helps. there is direct action like donating money or protesting, and there is cultural action like creating art and cultivating atmosphere of change
i DO think it is important to push yourself towards a direct approach, but BOTH matter and sometimes the second one is all that we are personally equipped for at a moment. so do not be frozen by indecision: CREATE SOMETHING THAT IS A SCREAM OF LOVE. make an atmosphere that says hate is not welcome
while it is obvious what i think about the current state to anyone who has ever paid attention, i will still LOUDLY say ICE is not welcome here. do not buy my books if you support them. every ICE member should be prosecuted, and we should find and support leaders who will promise to do this

My first thought on reading this: No wonder there's a particular hatred for Mexicans crossing the border among White U.S. Nationalists.
