antiracism is a constant process. i was raised in a racist village and it's not easy to get rid of it. i moved away over 10 years ago but those ideas are still haunting me.

also keep in mind that shame + guilt are not conducive to growing as a person. when it comes to "checking yourself" it should be a non-judgemental process. it's not about flagellating yourself for every bad thought or trying to purify your mind of all corruption. it's only when acknowledging your own racist thoughts doesn't fill you with dread that you can really progress past the white guilt of it all.

radical self-acceptance & genuine self-critique are not opposites. they need each other. do not let obsessive-compulsive behaviors colonize your desire to grow as a person.

slow down for your disabled friends. thats like a bare minimum kindness that we shouldnt have to ask for. i love that youre so quirky and walking fast is a cool personality trait to you and all that but i bet you can count your physically disabled friends on less than one hand

hi!! i was introduced to your blog by a friend of mine and i found a webcomic that has nasty antiblack caricatures and stereotypes (donut lips, angry Black woman etc :,)). the studio that made it has a pretty large following on instagram and they're being pretty resistant and ignorant when i try to point out how racist it is in the comments, even going as far as to saying that im "triggered".. im planning on calling them out if they continue being purposefully ignorant or silencing me, but im not Black myself, thus i'd want to center Black voices and opinions regarding this matter. how do i organize a proper callout post??

A note, as well: when you say "hey, this user is willfully racist and I don't want to interact with them or this material anymore due to the racism present", people are gonna accuse you of "harassment". Ignore them. If racism isn't considered harassment, then saying "hey this person likes being racist after being told that's what they're being" isn't either. It's just the truth.

You don't have to be rude about someone, but you don't owe a bigot kindness, either. You informed them, they made a choice, now all of China will know they chose to be a racist 🤷🏾‍♀️ keeps Black fans and anyone worth a damn from interacting with them and potentially being complicit in their racism.

i don't know if folks outside these mountains understand what a state these communities are left in after being ravaged by the coal and steel industries. they endured well over 100 years of paternalistic brutality to provide the resources that built america with nothing in return and that very much informs the culture and collective psyche. force fed opiates to undermine labor movements and hard-won unions after decades of horrific abuse at isolated company towns. living there you can feel how we're all just one giant open wound that can't heal.

if bringing in corporations to mine raw materials from the appalachian mountains was good for the community, appalachia would be known for how happy, healthy, and wealthy the people are.
