Hello do you know of that fic where LWJ time travels back into the past to their cloud recesses days, and young WWX is head over heels over the new Hanguang jun and young LWJ is jealous? I think it was called vinegar jug but I cannot find it anywhere
Did you try searching ‘vinegar jug’ in the Lan Wangji/Wei Wuxian tag? Because this came up when I tried it:
@professorsparklepants said “bride kidnapping you cowards” and I said “I am no coward.”
imperial setting; no magic; nie mingjue/jiang yanli
Summary: A week before she was due to marry taizi Jin Zixuan and become crown princess of the middle kingdom, Jiang Yanli, firstborn and daughter of venerated military Jiang family of Yunmeng, took a trip to the most pious Buddhist temple in the mountains. In her company was only a meek handmaiden, a precarious choice indeed, for on the way home, Jiang Yanli was accosted and abducted by a band of strongmen. They rode under the flag of Qinghe’s Bujing’Shi, an infamous sect in pugilist society not even the imperial government dare antagonize without reason, led by a man named Nie Mingjue.
[1] Nie Huaisang has a problem
[2] Jiang Yanli is a damsel, but she is not in distress
[3] Meltdown! At the Jiang Manor
[4] Jin Zixuan’s acted impulsively. Not many people are complaining.
[5] Jiang Yanli has a rather good time [smut]
[6] Epilogue: Wei Wuxian felt left out…or that one time Nie Mingjue was embarrassed to meet his in-laws.
Jin Zixuan became Emperor after 49 days of imperial funeral rites.
The first thing he did, because boy thought too much with his cock and not enough with his brain, was announcing his intention to instate Luo Qingyang as his Empress.
Now that caused some major political upheaval in court, MUCH to Jin Ziyao’s dismay.
Huang’xiong please, huang’xiong you’re going to send me to an early grave with all your antics. I JUST helped you cover up Father’s murder, could you calm down for maybe 3 seconds. I am BREATHLESS -
Huang’xiong, Luo-guniang needs time and love and care and…THERAPY, not a crown! I mean eventually maybe a crown, but NOT NOW.
Jin Ziyao needed a vacation. So when his lover bestfriend Lan Xichen suggested he accompany him to visit their old mutual friend to congratulate him on his nuptials, Jin Ziyao jumped at the chance. It would only be for a couple of days. The country can surely survive a couple of days without its Lianfang-wang and Zhongshu-shilang.
Lan Wangji looks down when there is a gentle tug on his sleeves to see his son pointing in the distance.
“What about that, a-die?” Lan Yuan asks.
Lan Wangji glances in the direction Lan Yuan is pointing towards, and smiles. “The flower?” he murmurs.
Lan Yuan nods eagerly, and holds out his open palm towards Lan Wangji.
Lan Wangji takes his hand, and slowly traces the characters on Lan Yuan’s palm. “玉蘭花 (yulan hua)*,” he tells Lan Yuan when he’s done, and holds out his own palm so that Lan Yuan can practise.
The ‘蘭’ character has more strokes than anything else Lan Wangji has taught Lan Yuan today, but Lan Yuan is smart, has exemplary memory, and is determined.
Wwx gets the rule about no alcohol tattooed on his bum. It’s a little funny.
“Lan Zhan! Lan Zhan, look!”
Wei Wuxian waited gleefully as Lan Wangji dutifully looked over at him from the night hunt reports he is poring over. He was striking a coy pose, complete with a sly smirk, waistband pulled halfway down his butt, so the still slightly reddened characters were just visible. Instead of his ears turning pink like Wei Wuxian was so looking forward to, instead, Lan Wangji shot him a flat look and returned to his papers.
Wei Wuxian gaped. “Hanguang-jun! What do you think you’re doing, ignoring me like that? Did you see my new ink?”
“Mn.”
“And what do you think?”
Lan Wangji blinked slowly, not looking at him. “Boring.”
With an aggrieved sound, Wei Wuxian yanked his pants back up--not carefully enough, he realized with a wince as it throbbed--and threw himself down next to him. “Not this again! I got a tattoo on my ass, Lan-er-gege, how dare you say I’m boring!”
“Not you. The rule.”
“Huh?”
“The rule you chose. It’s not even clever.”
Wei Wuxian bolted back upright and stared at him, mouth hanging open, squinting. “What?”
Lan Wangji didn’t even respond, making a last notation on the sheet before setting it aside and picking up another, eyes moving as he read. Wei Wuxian slapped his hand down in the middle of the page and waited for Lan Wangji to look over at him, patiently. “Not even clever? You’re now saying that my terrible, deviant ways are boring you?!” Indignation raised his voice in both volume and pitch until he was positively squeaking.
With the smallest smile, Lan Wangji put the paper back down and patted his cheek. “I told you, Wei Ying is never boring. ‘Do not be wasteful.’”
Dumbfounded, Wei Wuxian blinked at him several times before demanding, “Are you having a stroke?”
“The rule. It would have been funnier.”
Lan Wangji watched him watching him with his face utterly still as he processed this. Then, Wei Wuxian burst into uproarious laughter, rocking back before he keeling forward again, bent double. “Oh my god! Oh my god, Lan Zhan! You are writing that on my ass right now!” he gasped.
He snatched up Lan Wangji’s grading brush and stood, yanking his waistband down on the other cheek and turning so his husband could methodically adorn it with the rule in perfect calligraphy. While they waited for it to dry, Wei Wuxian crowed, “Oh! Oh, ‘perform acts of chivalry’ on my ass, husband.”
Lan Wangji nodded solemnly, and said, “’Diligence is the root’.”
“Ooo, ‘be strict on yourself’,” Wei Wuxian grinned, batting his eyelashes suggestively.
“‘Be easy on others’.”
All at once, Wei Wuxian dissolved into helpless giggles and practically fell over until he crawled around, climbing into Lan Wangji’s lap, looping his arms around his neck as he buried his face in his shoulder. It took him several attempts to speak, either wheezing or snorting instead of actual words escaping until he managed to whisper in a thin squeeze of mirth, directly into his ear, “’T-take...th-the straight...path’.”
Fic premise: Modern AU in which barista Wei Wuxian accidentally calls his repeat customer Lan Wangji "gege" - after which Lan Wangji.exe stops working and Wei Wuxian makes it his mission to always call him that. Just to tease him, of course, because his emotionless face was driving Wei Wuxian crazy, not at all for any flirtatious reasons. :) A "gege" storm ensues, until Lan Wangji snaps.
Lan Wangji’s face goes slack with surprise, when it happens.
Wei Wuxian is so enraptured by the the expression on Lan Wangji’s face (an expression!!), that he thinks he forgets to breathe. It’s the best thing that’s happened to him all day, the best thing that’s happened all month, really, since the first time Lan Wangji stepped into this coffee shop.
Wei Wuxian grins, and pushes Lan Wangji’s travel mug towards him. “Gege?” he says again, schooling his features into something less gleeful. “Is there something wrong with your drink, gege? Did Wei Ying make a mistake?”
Lan Wangji swallows. “Stop it,” he says, glancing around, even though it’s half past five in the morning, and he’s Wei Wuxian’s only customer.
“Stop what?” Wei Wuxian asks, blinking. He widens his eyes, the way he’s been told makes him look particularly innocent. “Gege has to tell me if I’ve made a mistake. How else will I learn to be good for gege?”
Lan Wangji lets out a soft noise that makes Wei Wuxian’s blood sing, before he snatches his travel mug from the counter, and flees the coffee shop.
Wei Wuxian is grinning all through the rest of his shift.
(send me a fic premise that 100% sounds like the kind of thing I would write, and I’ll tell you how embarrassingly accurate it is!)
soulmate au where you always know when your soulmate is laughing
The first thing Lan Wangji notices about the Jiang sect’s head disciple (after that first meeting on the roof, where Young Master Wei wore black and grey to sneak into the compound undetected) is that he always wears mourning white.
Not purple, like the other disciples of his sect, or dark blue like Jiang Fengmian wore on the rare handful of occasions that he and Lan Wangji crossed paths: Wei Wuxian is dressed in blanch-white from the ribbon in his hair to the shoes on his feet, and Lan Xichen pulls up short at the sight of him standing beside his sister and brother for the salutation ceremony.
His soulmate must be dead, Lan Wangji hears a couple of sympathetic Lan disciples murmuring in the crowd. Poor child, to be mourning his fated one so early in his life!
Despite himself, Lan Wangji pities Wei Wuxian, too. The first few weeks of classes are enough to prove that the young man is irreverent, careless, irrepressibly cheerful--but in the few moments of stillness that Lan Wangji manages to glimpse, the bold laughter in Wei Wuxian’s eyes and the frank happiness of his smiling mouth falls into a kind of melancholy that Lan Wangji prays he will never have to learn himself.
His own soulmate has been a constant presence throughout his life. He knows when they laugh, which is so often that Xiongzhang often teases him about how happy his future will be with such a beloved to bring down the sun and stars for him, and Lan Wangji already cherishes this precious person so much that the mere idea of losing them is enough to stop his breath.
Much later, Lan Wangji learns that Wei Ying’s soulmate had died when he was around six; one day the young Wei Ying noticed that his fated one had not laughed in many months, and when many months turned into two years it was decided that the one on the other side of his connection must have passed away. Soulmates are usually the same age, after all, and Wei Ying had been young enough that even children destined to grow up into somber adults would have laughed at that age now and then--but Wei Ying’s soulmate had not laughed at all in the twelve years since, so he began wearing mourning for them when he was only ten.
It makes Lan Wangji more lenient with him than he would have been with anyone else, though he doesn’t realize it for the next several months.
The time they spend together is also what leads Lan Wangji to betray his own soulmate, and fall in love with someone already mourning theirs.
___
“Are you well, Wangji?” is the first thing Lan Xichen asks, when they reunite in Qinghe after Lan Wangji’s escape from Qishan. “What--A-Zhan, what’s the matter? What’s wrong?”
“Xiongzhang,” he croaks, clutching at his brother’s warm sleeve. “Xiongzhang, my soulmate is dead.”
Lan Wangji had come to Carp Tower to seal an alliance with the Yiling Patriarch, in order to prevent a war the Lan Sect couldn’t win. But the deal was brokered by the Jin sect for reasons of their own, and instead Lan Wangji found himself all but coerced into an arranged marriage.
Soulmate!au + fake dating +you confuse me.” OR “if you’re happy, then so am i.” because I couldn't decide lol. Love everything you write, like somehow your writing style is exactly to my taste, you know? So thank u for sharing your work with us.
They have reached terminal dumbassery, I’m sorry to say.
(Also, thank you!!!)

“Lan Zhan, Lan Zhan!” Wei Ying cried when he caught sight of Lan Zhan. He was quick to catch up to him, huffing and puffing with the exertion. “You haven’t found your soulmate yet, right?”
Lan Zhan looked at Wei Ying with a frown, wondering what the sudden question was really about. It was a rather personal question. Still, he dutifully answered in the affirmative. The answer was obvious, anyway. Lan Zhan did not have anyone he was particularly close with, other than his brother, and family rarely led to soulmate bonds. Not to mention that his brother already had a soulmate.
“Excellent,” Wei Ying breathed, and beamed up at him. “Wanna date me, then?”
Lan Zhan’s heart stood still for one moment, and then started beating impossibly faster at the words. Had Wei Ying noticed his feelings? Wei Ying hadn’t found his soulmate yet, either, and Lan Zhan had found himself quietly hoping…
“Not date date, of course!” Wei Ying was quick to add, immediately crushing Lan Zhan’s quiet hope. “I just need someone to play my lover and then break up with me in some kind of horrible way, so my family will finally get off my back about finding my soulmate. It’s such an outdated concept, too. Waiting for your soulmate. Mine is probably a hoard of cats, anyway, so there’s nothing much to look forward to.”
It hurt a little to hear Wei Ying talk like that. Lan Zhan had always hoped that he and Wei Ying would turn out to be soulmates, and that romantic hope had sustained him through his teenage years. But it had never turned out to be the case. He and Wei Ying were barely friends, and obviously not meant to be. Still, he thought, it was better if Wei Ying committed himself to a hoard of cats instead of waiting for his soulmate, who would probably turn out to be an abuser or some other kind of ghastly individual.
A hoard of cats and Lan Zhan as his friend sounded like a much, much better option.
But then, Wei Ying’s offer…
It was bad to accept it, underhanded probably, but it would be his one chance at dating Wei Ying. And even though it would be a fake relationship, Lan Zhan found himself wanting to know. How Wei Ying would be, as a partner. As a lover. As a soulmate.
That… that would be enough.
“Hn,” he said, therefore. “I will do it.”
Wei Ying looked at him with evident surprise on his face, as if he had never expected Lan Zhan to actually agree to his request.
A moment later, a big smile spread over his entire face.
“Lan Zhan!!” he cried. “You truly are the best!”
If Wei Ying truly thought that, Lan Zhan thought a little uncharitably, then Lan Zhan would be his soulmate. Alas, he was not.
Still, he accepted the offered hug from Wei Ying, who always was enthusiastic and far, far too tempting to refuse. He listened to Wei Ying’s excited rambling about the things they needed to plan to make it ‘realistic.’
He already regretted his decision. Because now, he wouldn’t have to dream up scenarios any longer. He would actually know how it was to be with Wei Ying. He would know, and he would inevitably lose what he had.
A suitable punishment, probably.
---
If Lan Zhan was honest, nothing much changed after they ‘got together.’ They talked about the same things and went to the same places they always did, only now they were holding hands while they were doing it. When they had a movie night, Wei Ying would cuddle into Lan Zhan’s side and laugh when Lan Zhan went all stiff because he got nervous whenever Wei Ying was in his vicinity. Sometimes, when they were in public, Wei Ying would even lean in and peck him on the lips.
Lan Zhan would never admit it, but it was the best, sweetest torture he had ever had. This was everything he had ever wanted, and he got to experience it, only all of it was fake.
It was a hell of his own making.
He wondered again and again how it could be that Wei Ying and he were not soulmates. Wei Ying was everything that he wanted. He could not imagine how anyone other than Wei Ying could be so exactly what he wanted. Any possible soulmate that came after this would just lose out against Wei Ying.
Which was also unfair, he felt. Towards his potential soulmate as well as towards Wei Ying. He was not required to like Lan Zhan back the same way as Lan Zhan liked him, after all. That was why he decided that after this all ended, there would be no one else. Even if he should one day meet his actual soulmate, he would have to let them down gently and give them another chance at happiness. Because for him, there was no one but Wei Ying, soulmate or not. There was no way he was going to involve another person into this.
When Wei Ying told Jiang Yanli that he was dating Lan Zhan, she was overjoyed by the news. She congratulated them both with tears in her eyes, saying that she was so happy that they both had found each other, and how romantic it was that they had been friends for so long before discovering that they were soulmates.
Jiang Cheng, on the other hand, threatened Lan Zhan physical harm if he were to hurt his ‘asshole of a brother.’ Not that Lan Zhan worried that he wouldn’t be able to take Jiang Cheng on, but he felt terribly guilty about the idea that he would inevitably ‘hurt’ Wei Ying once they ‘broke up.’ That was the last thing he wanted to do. Both break up with and hurt Wei Ying.
But it was all fake. The separation would come eventually.
The more people kept telling him what a good couple they made, the more it hurt. But no wanting of his would ever turn his idle daydreams into reality.
---
When it came, it still felt far too soon.
Lan Zhan and Wei Ying had been out all day, taking a walk in the botanical garden that was full of the most beautiful flowers of spring. They had bought ice cream (or rather, Lan Zhan had bought them ice cream after Wei Ying had pestered him about wanting to eat ice cream for too long) and ate it as they walked around the part hand in hand. All in all, it had been a wonderful day.
He had looked at Wei Ying and thought how much prettier he was than any of the flowers blooming at the wayside. He had been happy.
Which was why it came as a shock when Wei Ying suddenly turned towards him and smiled shakily.
“Lan Zhan. We should probably end this.”
Lan Zhan was brought back to earth with a heavy jolt.
This was it. This was the moment where he needed to say goodbye to Wei Ying.
And then the rest of his life would be the same: just him and the rabbits he was inevitably going to buy in order to combat his heartbreak.
Wei Ying still smiled up at him, shrugging a little helplessly.
“You must be pretty fed up with me by now,” he said. “And you probably want to go back looking for your actual soulmate.”
“There will be no one.”
Suddenly, it seemed very important to Lan Zhan that Wei Ying was aware of that.
Wei Ying looked up at him with big eyes.
“Lan Zhan?”
“There will be no soulmate. Not for me.”
“But, you haven’t-”
“Wei Ying. I have decided that there never will be a soulmate for me.”
Wei Ying was silent for a moment.
Then, with sudden speed and ferocity, he hit Lan Zhan in the chest.
“Goddammit, Lan Zhan, why are you so frustrating? Why would you rather be alone than with your soulmate? Why couldn’t it be me?”
He turned pale, evidently shocked at his own words. Without another word, he turned around and ran away, quick as a deer.
Lan Zhan stood there for far too long, trying to figure out what had just happened, and then ran after Wei Ying with all his might.
Wei Ying would not, could not slip through his fingers now. Even if he was as slippery as an eel when on the run.
When Lan Zhan finally caught him, Wei Ying let out a deep breath that almost sounded like a shudder. He refused to look at Lan Zhan.
“Why?” he asked with a small voice. “Can’t you let me suffer in peace?”
“I wanted it to be Wei Ying,” Lan Zhan found himself saying, desperately. “I always wanted it to be Wei Ying. There will be no one else because I have already decided.”
Wei Ying finally looked at him, his eyes full of unshed tears. And then he started to cry in big, ugly sobs.
“You dumbo,” he blubbered. “It’s always been only you. Just you. I just wanted to see how it is being Lan Zhan’s soulmate.”
Lan Zhan could not remember when exactly Wei Ying ended up in his arms. But it was good. Very good. And Lan Zhan was not going to let go a second time.
---
Two days later, Wei Ying showed him his soul mark. His real one, hidden among the many tattoos on his skin.
It was a little rabbit, perfectly rendered in black and white.
Exactly like the one that stared at him from his own reflection in the mirror sometimes.
More of these two being disgusting and in love. Argh.
–
“Lan Zhan?” Wei Wuxian asked.
“Hn?” Lan Wangji replied, more a sound than an actual word. He was lazily stroking Wei Wuxian’s long hair, gently untangling the knots that their earlier, rather vigorous activities had caused as he did so. He was feeling a wonderful kind of exhaustion, one that made him perfectly content to stay where he was and not feel the need to move for the foreseeable future. And since he had Wei Wuxian right here with him, a heavy weight against his chest, there truly was no need to move at all.
“Lan Zhan,” Wei Wuxian repeated, now sounding rather more contemplative than questioning. “Do you like me, Lan Zhan?”
modern au high school wei ying learns to do origami rabbits specifically to sneakily put them on lan zhans desk. then he makes it a personal challenge to fold them from as tiny a scap of paper as he can manage. teeny tiny little rabbits infest all of lan zhan’s school supplies. he finds them in his pockets. in his bags. in his hair. each one he stumbles upon makes him smile - they mean wei ying wants to be on his mind

@silvarbelle does it again!!! a whole 14+K worded fic of Wei Wuxian moaning his lungs away to piss a very rude cultivator, and Lan Wangji, the poor jealous husband, must take action!
So, I was wondering about your xicheng ficlet. Consort LXC one. What if lxc didn't come back from the war? 🤭 did he die? did he disappear? who knows
[not exactly an au, more like a prequel to this??]
Some say he’s run away.
The great General Lan Xichen, commander of three hundred thousand of the nation’s best troops, forced to marry the emperor, as a concubine, no less, kept in the inner palace to warn the Lan family against any disloyalty - of course he would escape at the first opportunity he gets.
Poor Lan Xichen - once expected to marry a nice noblewoman and to carry on the Lan family line, now forced to bed the emperor, to be paraded around like a trophy. Look how powerful the emperor is! Even the great general of the previous dynasty now falls at his feet, answers to his every call!
Jiang Cheng listens to the whispers of his courtiers, and thinks about the gentleness of Lan Xichen’s touch, the soft curve of his lips when he smiles.
He hears them call his love a deserter, and wants to scream. Lan Xichen hadn’t deserted, had he? He’d won the battle of Langya, and was on the way back to Yunmeng, before he disappeared. He won, like he had promised Jiang Cheng he would right before he left the palace. He had been smiling then as well, telling Jiang Cheng he would be right back.
He bites down on the inside of his cheeks so hard he tastes the tang of blood when someone suggests exiling the remaining members of Lan Xichen’s family as a punishment for Lan Wangji’s desertion; it wouldn’t do to show Lan Xichen undue favour at this point when everyone is turning on the Lans. He is not just Jiang Cheng here, in front of his ministers. He is Jiang Wanyin, First Emperor of the Jiang Dynasty, and he has a duty to be neutral, he has to listen to these vile men throw Lan Xichen’s name around like it means nothing, like he’s dirt beneath their feet.
Lan Xichen, Jiang Wanyin’s bravest general, Jiang Cheng’s most beloved husband, is worth more than any of the men in his court right now, but still, Jiang Cheng holds his tongue, because-
Because despite how much Jiang Cheng wants to believe in Lan Xichen, there is an ache in his heart, one that reminds him that Lan Xichen isn’t here, that he hasn’t returned like he said he would, and Jiang Cheng thinks maybe, just maybe, Lan Xichen really did run away.
If it’s true... Jiang Cheng doesn’t blame him.
Jiang Cheng should have done better, should have stayed away from Lan Xichen like he said he would. Instead, he had bedded Lan Xichen, had kept going back, had not left him alone. He’d told himself that he would be good to Lan Xichen, and justified kiss after kiss with that reasoning.
Was that why Lan Xichen had left? Was Jiang Cheng so terrible that Lan Xichen would choose to leave his family, his home, just to avoid Jiang Cheng?
His chest tightens painfully.
If he had just said the word, if he had just told Jiang Cheng that he did not wish to be with Jiang Cheng anymore, Jiang Cheng would have found a way to let him leave the inner palace, would have done anything to reinstate Lan Xichen as the commander of his army.
He would have done anything to make Lan Xichen happy. He would still do anything to make Lan Xichen happy; he just wants him to come back home. Even if he does not wish to return to Jiang Cheng’s arms, Jiang Cheng wishes Lan Xichen would come back.
“If we were to imprison Minister Lan...” Su She suggests. He hasn’t stopped speaking since Jiang Cheng tuned out many minutes ago. Su She is careful with his words today, like he has been coached on what to say, because Lan Wangji is a sensitive subject to broach. He is not only Lan Xichen’s brother, but also the subject of Jiang Cheng’s own brother’s affections, even if Wei Wuxian doesn’t appear to have figured that out yet. “Lan Xichen would have no choice but to turn himself in.”
Jiang Cheng lets his frown deepen, and speaks for the first time in an hour. “Until we have proof that Lan Xichen left of his own volition, he is still an imperial consort. My imperial consort,” he says. He tries to keep his voice even, but knows that he is probably failing. No matter. Let them know that he is angry. An angry emperor is an emperor that will inspire fear. “I suggest my ministers take care to address him correctly.”
Su She opens his mouth; Jiang Cheng silences him with a glare.
“The accusations you are all making of my consort are serious in nature, and a finding cannot be made with no evidence supporting these claims,” Jiang Cheng continues. “Minister Song, Minister Xiao, you have twenty days to find out what happened to my Zewu-jun.”
--
Lan Xichen comes back sixteen days later, bruised and travel-weary.
He smiles when he sees Jiang Cheng, and doesn’t push Jiang Cheng away when Jiang Cheng embraces him. He presses his face into Jiang Cheng’s neck instead, and kisses the base of Jiang Cheng’s throat.
“I took care of the revolt in Yingchuan for you,” he tells Jiang Cheng, voice hoarse. He doesn’t look like he’s travelled with supplies. Yingchuan is a few days’ ride away, and Jiang Cheng wonders how long it’s been since been since Lan Xichen had food and water. “Every single one of the men involved in the attempted assassination - all gone. They won’t trouble you any longer.”
Jiang Cheng holds his husband tight. “Xichen,” he breathes out.
“You were worried about them,” Lan Xichen says. He pulls away far enough to look at Jiang Cheng, eyes wide with worry, like he doesn’t know if Jiang Cheng would be upset he took matters into his own hands. “You were worried it would grow into a bigger problem. I happened on one of them on my way back to Yunmeng, and ended up tracking them all down. Now you don’t have to worry anymore.”
Jiang Cheng kisses him. “You did well,” he murmurs, when they part.
“Was I gone too long?” Lan Xichen asks. “You were looking for me.”
“Was that why you came back so quickly?” Jiang Cheng asks.
Lan Xichen’s mission was not an easy one, but if he’s back here now, he must’ve wrapped matters up in Yingchuan in just over a week. Jiang Cheng’s twenty day deadline must’ve put so much more pressure on Lan Xichen.
“Yes, and no,” Lan Xichen says. He smiles again, and Jiang Cheng cannot help but to kiss him. “Also because I missed you. I wanted to come back quickly so I could see you. I wanted to send word, but I had to act fast, and I had to be discrete.”
Tomorrow, Jiang Cheng will rub Lan Xichen’s return and his success in suppressing the revolt in Yingchuan in all of the ministers’ faces, and reward Lan Xichen handsomely for his actions. He will take the chance to promote Lan Wangji simply because it will make Lan Xichen and Wei Wuxian both happy. He will be petty and snap at anyone who thinks they can object - he is the emperor, and is allowed to give into occasional whims.
But for now, he presses his lips to Lan Xichen’s brow, and takes his husband to bed.

Wei Ying first hears about the ball over dinner.
"They're trying to marry off Second Prince," Fourth Uncle says, through a mouthful of stew. "There is going to be a ball, for all the gentry." "Everybody who's rich and titled, who's got a son or daughter the right age, will be invited. Second Prince will pick someone out."
"He's probably very stuffy and full of himself!" Wei Ying snorts. "I pity whoever has to marry him!"
(In which Wei Ying, a fugitive from justice, sneaks into the palace, steals from the imperial family, and eats his words.
I was quite suddenly hit over the head with Mo Xuanyu feels and how very good Jiang “I take in any strays that need help” Cheng would be to him.
This plays heavily into my headcanon that Jiang Cheng rebuild his Sect by taking in all the orphans and disciples who didn’t want to stay with their Sect, and it quickly spreads around that everyone is welcome at Lotus Pier.
Mo Xuanyu is eighteen or nineteen here, so too old to be adopted, but not too old for Jiang Cheng to try XD
It’s over 5k long, so you can either read it here or switch over to AO3.
~*~*~
Mo Xuanyu is still shaking, though he’s sure that by now most of it is because he’s cold and wet.
He only has the clothes he’s wearing right now, so he can’t even change into something dry in an attempt to warm up and he just knows that he’s going to get sick.
He raises his hand to his temple, where it’s still uncomfortably hot and throbbing and it comes away sticky and wet, so the cut is still bleeding, too.
Mo Xuanyu curls up on the side of the road, burying his face in his knees.
He doesn’t know what to do now.
He ran away in panic, and he realizes now that he should have stayed, no matter what his uncle was about to do to him, because now he doesn’t have a place to go back to at all. But even the thought of his uncle’s hand on him is making him feel sick, and he knows there hasn’t really been a choice for him.
He was getting used to the abuse he suffered there, but his uncle leering at him, and telling him in a sickly sweet voice that he should serve him as long as Madame Mo is out on meetings has been too much for Mo Xuanyu.
He had struggled against the hands on his body and when his uncle had smacked him down, Mo Xuanyu had taken the opportunity to kick him and then he ran out without looking back.
So going back is really not an option, not anymore. It’s not like he wants to anyway; ever since his mother killed herself, there is nothing at Mo Manor that keeps him there, except the promise of a roof over his head and somewhat regular meals.
Well, he’s going to have to learn to do without either of those things.
Mo Xuanyu briefly entertains the thought of going back to Jinlintai—surely they wouldn’t just leave him on the streets—but then he remembers how they chased him out, how they watched him tumble down the stairs and how they laughed at him, and he knows he can’t go back there either.
But that leaves him with nowhere else to go.
Jin Guangyao made sure to ruin his reputation so thoroughly that no other sect would take him in, either. He can probably count himself lucky if he isn’t being chased out of any territory.
Mo Xuanyu presses his face harder into his knees, even though it aggravates the cut on his temple, and he wonders what he’s going to do now.

“How much did Wei Wuxian pay you?” Jiang Cheng asks.
Lan Xichen’s lips quirk. “I thought that might be your reaction,” he murmurs. His tone is teasing when he reminds Jiang Cheng, “Your brother doesn’t have enough money to be able to afford to play pranks like this on you.”
It doesn’t go unnoticed to Jiang Cheng that Lan Xichen has sneakily slipped in the fact that he knows who Wei Wuxian is to Jiang Cheng, even though that information wasn’t volunteered.
(Or, yet another amnesia fic that nobody asked for.)
