but like anyway i think a lot of the pictures we see of her—on social media especially—were taken during her marriage to elvis, & like she herself has said multiple times that he kinda dressed her up like a doll & totally controlled her appearance, & i think we like to romanticize that image of her in that era—& like, i get it, i’m a huge 60s girlie i do rlly enjoy those looks, & she’s also said despite everything she still loves him—but i think it’s equally interesting how she treated & what she did with her appearance when she finally had control over it. like almost immediately after the divorce she opened up a boutique in la did u even know that

Henry Ossawa Tanner's depiction of the Annunciation will always be my absolute favourite but I really do think there is something so ethereal and endearing about his study before the official artwork was completed.

The way Mary sits with almost no visible features but you can still tell that her hands are clasped in prayer- the angel Gabriel manifesting as a single stroke of light as the paint and room seems to contort around him. Easily one of the all timers.
