Writing habits!
Everyone has writing habits. I just know it. There’s this little thing that appears in every single one of your works. Is it a certain archetype of a character? A certain phrase? A certain setting? A certain character combination? Tell me about it!
Mine is definitely the brooding, greying anti-hero who has been through lots of horrible stuff and acts cold and aloof while actually caring a lot about one certain thing. I tag @seriophi, @e5pe0n, @thelonelyrainbowgirl and @writingibberish!
((My main is e5pe0n!))
idk if it’s because I live on an island—even though I hate swimming and water to the extent I resent showers lmao—the open sea and its islands are always the focal point of my settings.
tfw you want to tag thirty people but also want to give everyone else a chance to tag them?? @incandescent-creativity @scribble-dee-vee @gracekwritings @papersky-pencilstars @infinitebadashianqueen @itstheenglishkid @sawyerblue
Thank you for the tag! That’s so cool you live on island =D (idk if you think so if you dont like water though) Writing habits: Main characters whose names begin with M or A, and smiles that mean something very different. Tagging @prideandpen, @merigreenleaf, @cairistiona7, @sergeanttomycaptain and whoever else wants to do this
What a fun tag! I also do the name thing- so many characters I’ve written over the years have names ending in N! Rafion, Meren, Tavin, Talan, Feren, Draven (that’s Firedrake’s real name). At least none of these happen in the same story, thank goodness. Otherwise it’s that I keep ending up with characters getting discolored by magic! One turned purple, one turned green, and another gets what looks like black tattoos and when he tries to cover this with magic, turns yellow or orange or something temporarily. These three characters may or may not be related, depending on if I blend my worlds together, so it could just be a family inclination for being really bad at this kind of illusion magic. ;) I’ll tag @blackgirlmagicwrites @sorrowsfall @mcubed35 @writerlydays and @gooseandcaboose
Thanks @merigreenleaf!!! This is such a neat tag! I have a bad tendency to gravitate towards character names starting with A. I actively have to direct myself to other letters. Storms tend to pop up in my writing a ton (probably because it rains SO MUCH where I live) as well as elemental powers of some form (it’s usually fire.) And coffee. Or tea. My characters always drink tea or coffee. Water is apparently not interesting enough for me to write about. 😅 Tagging @muffindragon227, @ephirae, @celestialcontrail, @kanarenee, @chanting-to-u, @dancingdarklingwrites, @theticklishpear and @boothewriter!
I am guilty of writing hella weird names. Ysandren, Lloresn, Adenar, Tefka, Reysia, Yverin to name a few. I also do the Tolkien thing where I write about a lot of long walks in the woods lol. The faults of a wanna be high fantasy writer, for sure. Tagging @lizard-is-writing @christinewrites @ghost-coven @scripturient-manipulator
Ooh, I like this. Thank you for the tag, @dancingdarklingwrites :* I also have to make an effort NOT to give all my characters names starting with A (especially MC’s; for some reason an A-name always pops up first). The same goes for my villains. Most of my villains have names starting with R. Oh, and all my characters are extremely sarcastic. Always. It’s a blessing and a curse??
I tag @prideandpen @neenorroar @how-to-deflate-a-hedgehog101 @albatris @acfawkes @jltillary & @isnappedmypencil
This sounds pretty cool. Thank you @christinewrites for tagging me! I actually have two characters that have hopped their way through quite a few stories that never really seemed to fit for them. They are (normally) named Chadden Hunter and Kai (Last name changes quite a bit). Chadden is always the same: a hyperactive and gluttonous blond, green-eyed musician (famous most of the time) who never thought before he spoke and was always smiling. Kai has had multiple personality changes and his relationship to Chadden varies from story to story, but his first name and description has stayed the same throughout each story. I also love my sarcastic and snarky characters. I tag @c-foley @munificence-maleficence @byjillianmaria @quilowrites and @lizard-is-writing
@mvmilestwisted
Thanks for the tag @isnappedmypencil! I always seem to make two characters at a time who are completely contradictory. I have two antagonists I love a bit too much whose names literally mean “horror” and “happiness” but are always working against each other. Likewise, I have another pair of sisters whose names mean “summer” and “winter”, but would do anything for each other. I’ll tag @english-lit-and-green-tea @a-sundeen @crazybunchwriter @lets-get-fictional and @sophialikestowrite
Thanks @quilowrites for the tag! All of my narratives (so far) have characters who are very pessimistic/sarcastic in their head but aren’t as good as voicing their thoughts as they’d like to be. (But I’m still on the first draft of all my projects, so who knows? It might change.)
Also all of my protagonists so far have absent mothers and not-so-great fathers – I honestly don’t know why, my parents aren’t like that at all?
Anyway I could list like a million more, but for now I’ll leave it at that. I’ll tag @brynwrites @smoke-in-starlight @robinbibliophile @creativityisnecessary and @mangoandsnow!
Thanks for the tag @a-sundeen! I’m going to apologize for length now. I love writing about writing! 😊
I believe most of an author’s works are tailored to one personal experience or another. In my case, I work through a plethora of personal issues by creating scenarios, characters, histories, and major/minor story arcs that mimic (to an extent) what I need to work on. I’ve found this works wonders when I attempt to work through a traumatic event or a scenario I can’t let go of in my day-to-day life.
With that being said, most of my characters are female. They encounter dangerous and violent people that wish to do them harm in some way, most of the time psychologically and physically. The main character is usually very strong willed, but emotionally fragile. The back stories are dark, filled with childhood violence, and the focus is usually on the character evolving past her own flaws and the traumas that plague her. She will either accept herself or she will not at the ‘end’ of the story; not all of my stories have happy endings, as I’ve come to find not all human life has a happy ending.
As far as pairing, I like to pair them up with a daunting figure that will challenge them. This figure, usually, has a rather violent and dark aura, has his or her own personal issues, and has no problem voicing exactly what they mean. They may also be quite alright with hurting (this can be mental, emotional, or physical) the female character on occasion, prompting her to step out of her comfort zone and respond. While this figure is usually there to help, there is a chance they may turn on the character when she least expects it. The figure has recently been male, but that’s not always so and I intend to go further with this typical figure in future stories.
So, in short, I believe my consistent writing habits include a typical pairing and theme. In the past, it was all about puppy love and harmony; my, how writing can change over the years!
I tag @panda-noosh and @captainofthekryptonspacemarines as they are the only other writing blogs I know of. If any other writing blogs want a reader, let me know and I’ll follow you! I need more writing blogs to follow.
