you know how it’s possible for something considered “precious” / “high value” - like a diamond ring - to get flushed down the toilet by accident? or - or dropped in an open sewage grate during a rainy day outside, when all the runoff is overwhelming the city pipes? you know how the only way to get that diamond ring back would be to, like, plunge in there. into the sewer water. into the toilet water. to search through sewage. you know how all the sewage doesn’t change the fact that finding a diamond ring in the muck is still, like, insane on principle, but also extremely possible? caguas puerto rico is like this, to me.

it’s located in a valley between a bunch of mountains. it’s the lowest point in a humidity-dome, wet and muggy and breezeless. it floods constantly, the traffic is purgatorial, there’s nothing to fucking do, it’s concrete hell on earth (and not just that - it’s NEGLECTED wet rotting concrete!!!!) and every 50 feet or so there’s at least one dead cat. it’s such a sewer of a place god bless, in terms of vibes, karmic energies, and spirit. but you DO be finding diamond rings here and there. ASS municipality but there are diamonds in that rough!!!! panning for gold in the shit dungeon!!

Was seeing posts about how people hcing Jason as a "slob" is classist and thinking about how so many "slob" stuff we treat as moral flaws are so often depression burn-out and other such mental health issues and made me think about the link between poverty and mental illness. So yeah like anyway obviously there's the obvious "if you work three jobs when do you have time to clean your house" question but it's also really like. The system exploits and abuses poor people to the point of nervous exhaustion and inability to maintain a sanitary environment for themselves and then invents a number of moral flaws to be used as an explanation for both the insanitary environment and the poverty like "laziness" or "poor financial choices" (brother what choices there are no finances)

So I think while it's definitely a stereotype and in no way a generality it's not necessarily a bad thing to portray someone with financial struggles struggling with their housekeeping chores but if you're gonna do that you better be really really aware of why they're actually struggling. Oh Jason despite his near-pathological attention to detail and focus on cleanliness is suddenly not cleaning up after himself in this new comic? Why is that? Is it because he has trauma and depression from repeated abuse that leaves him too exhausted to even want to leave? Or is it because you, the writer, hate people who were born in low income families and you think they're dirty and lazy and you associate Jason's familial background and past homelessness to a number of moral flaws? Riddle me this batman

so in the 2003 Aquaman series they introduce a new backstory for archvillain Black Manta in which the entire reason for his (hyper)fixation on destroying Aquaman's life was severely maltreated autism, which Aquaman then cures him of with his magic water hand to completely redeem him. and this is obviously insanely stupid and ill-conceived and genuinely hateful, but given all of that, this is still one of the funniest speech balloons i've ever read in a comic. me @ myself when i remember how i acted in high school or whatever

I will never get behind Jason leaving behind the mask to be a civilian. That boy was risking himself to stop Ma Gunn's museum heist BEFORE he was Robin! He runs into a burning building when his body should be paralyzed by the fear lobotomy Batman did to him! All because he heard a kid screaming. He was meant to be a hero! It's in his bones!
