I really wish people on this goddamn website understood how age of consent laws work. They AREN’T a “this is the age any legal adult can fuck you” (unless they’re the same as the age of majority, which in places like Cali they are) they ARE a “this is the age in which two minors can engage in sexual contact without potentially getting misdemeanors for it” the age of consent being 13,14,15 IS NOT TO PROTECT ADULTS HAVING SEX WITH TEENAGERS, IT IS TO PROTECT TEENAGERS HAVING SEX WITH EACHOTHER FROM LEGAL CHARGES and even THEN if they aren’t close enough in age (say 14 yo girl and 17 yo boy) the laws will not apply and it’s still considered a criminal action in many cases.

Alright, let’s drop some history on y’all revisionists.

It’s the latter half of WW2, millions dead across the world. The US had just fought dozens of island hopping campaigns in which some of the most harllowing battles of the war have taken place.

The Japanese soldiers so brainwashed into never retreating that every last soilder had to be killed, every inch of every tiny ass island had to be bought with blood and tears. Dozens of islands where hundreds of thousands died for basically peices of rocks in the ocean.

Finally we get to Japan itself. The beaches are fortified, civilians are being taught how to fight. The calculated casualties are in the dozen of millions. The cities would be painted red with blood. The Us would all but be forced to commit genocide to win the war.

When someone realizes, we have city buster bombs now. Nukes. So they pick two targets, small cities that held some military importance. And dropped them. The bombers regret it to this day but at the cost of 200,000 lives, millions were spared.

For despite weeks of coastal bombardments, the Japanese held on, no beaches were left unattended, cities were left fortified. Not a single inch of land was made ready for any kind of invasion. It would have been a death trap. If the US had left, the Empire would have continued to torture and enslave, they would have continued to wreak Havok upon the Asian mainland.

At the end of the day, there were no good choices. Just death and more death.

Making it out to be some silly conspiracy, or imperialist claims or some such cheapens the lives sacrificed, and does nothing but show your internet ignorance.

you know when someone says they’re about to “drop some knowledge” they’re about to regurgitate the stupid propaganda they learned in middle school, propaganda steeped in american chauvinism, white supremacy, and racist tropes of “mindless japanese robots recklessly throwing themselves at death cause samurais” or something. it’s well known by most ppl with more than 1 brain cell bouncing around in their skulls that japan tried to negotiate surrender multiple times with decreasingly less demands. this never came to fruition because there were other reasons for nuking japanese cities other than the puerile “saving lives” meaning american soldiers’ lives while condemning hundreds of thousands of civilians to a fate of bleached bones and radiation death. what were these reasons? well in the words of the target committee which was tasked in selecting the cities to be nuked, ranking them according to not just military value but according to the psychological effect on the rest of the world besides just japan. “It was agreed that psychological factors in the target selection were of great importance. Two aspects of this are (1) obtaining the greatest psychological effect against Japan and (2) making the initial use sufficiently spectacular for the importance of the weapon to be internationally recognized when publicity on it is released.” (from the minutes of the target committee).

The gentlemen unanimously agreed that the bomb should be dropped on a large urban center, the psychological impact of which should be “spectacular” to ensure “international recognition” of the new weapon.

hundreds of thousands were killed in one swoop to ensure america’s dominance in the world, give it a better position vis-a-vis china and the ussr, and intimidate ppl of the 3rd world who had nothing to do with anything which is why the nuking of the civilians of hiroshima and nagasaki are rightly seen as a horror by the rest of the world. we certainly don’t subscribe to the idiot american belief that u.s. lives are worth more than any other and this is at the root of it. ppl are really taught in school that nuclear attacks and threats are justified in order to raise america’s profile as demonstrated by the fool above. 

also worth noting is henry stimson’s diary entry which shows truman giggling over the idea that japan might be in such ruin that the devastation wrought by the new weapon might not even be noticeable. hilarious stuff.
