ok so the thing about kink right. is that, even more than it's "playing tuoys", it's about building shared fiction. of course im biased by how much time we've spent acting out scenes in friends DMs or just idly sending fantasies back and forth. but any even mildly conceptual scene is gonna end up some mix of creative writing and improv

what this means is you have to treat the kink you're doing as fiction.

it's obviously nonsense to criticise someone for the emotional response they have to a given piece of fiction, and acting like some fiction is irredeemable and wrong to engage with, even critically, is like, obvious bullshit. (thus kinkshaming tgirls for their weird kinks is bad, QED)

understanding kink as fiction also lets porn and sex exist on a continuum with other art. i have read plenty of dark kink posts where i have no idea if im going to end up having read something i find hot, or an effective horror story. those edges get to blur. and the non-sexual puppyplay that lets you feel like a dog more of the time gets to exist as an extension of the ways that exists within sexual contexts.

this framing also explains why i find so many posts psychoanalysing the source of people's kinks trite and annoying. you can obviously do large scale cultural criticism on why particular stories are popular. or your own reading/interpretation of a story. "there are implications to the proliferation of specific tropes, this reflects things about the culture or specific common desires" is fine. "i personally find this speaks to my experiences or specific psychological fantasies" is fine. but as soon as you reach a generalisation. move from "many people find disempowerment fantasies a relief from life's responsibilities" to "the reason people like bondage is because they're all gifted kids with burnout". well you're being presumptive about everyone else's engagement with those texts

for every hundred guys with some psychosexual fixation on cheerleader costumes because of high school experiences during puberty, there's gonna be some weirdo out there who just touched a costume once and got immediately fixated on the material. there's always gonna be exceptions, your theory needs to account for them

this is also why going "victims of xyz trauma can use kink about that topic to cope/heal" is such an unproductive line of argument. beyond all the obvious reasons (treating trauma as a prerequisite for doing dark kink has a million obviously bad implications) it's not even good for psychoanalysing your own kinks

"cnc is a way to process experiences of sexual assault" presumes the fiction you're creating is purely literal. unfortunately a lot of fiction utilises this thing called a "metaphor"

we have a lot of rape fantasies. but none of our real past experiences of sexual pressure or coercion really match the tenor of these fantasies.

but if you've experienced a sufficiently bad mental health episode. especially as a minor. there's a sensation of the moment it becomes clear your boundaries don't actually exist. your rights to privacy, your own space and sensory environment get overridden.

for us this matches the tenor of those fantasies much better. as do more minor experiences of being stuck in situations we were not allowed to leave in schooling etc.

it's no wonder, again. given these allegorical touchpoints. that the rapists in these fantasies are so often figured as a parental figure or a teacher, despite not having literally experienced the harms depicted.

do we really want to ask the ageplayer if their childhood was bad enough? or can we understand incest in fiction and roleplay might be a lens through which we can explore the traumas of family, regardless of one's personal experience.

utterly baffling when i see incest described as a "tumblr fetish of the week" on par with like maids or mech pilots or knights or something. like. have you been on pornhub anytime in the last decade. incest is one of the most common kinks of all time; if we're going by the definition of "uncommon sexual interest", it barely even qualifies as one. it's only a "fetish" because the incest taboo is so pervasive that nobody can actually admit that they're into it

The fucking frights I've caused in kink groups by pointing out that anyone who calls their partner mommy/daddy is engaging in incest kink. It all just motivates me to keep doing it because it only scares people who thought they were above people "like that."
