random PSA, I know a lot of people use duckduckgo as a Google alternative search engine, but it always kind of annoyed me when I was using it because it felt like No Name Brand Google
I have switched to using Startpage.com and vastly prefer it. for one thing, instead of displaying an "AI summary" at the top of the search results (unless you turn it off, yes I know), it displays the first paragraph of the Wikipedia article, with link, whenever it finds one that's relevant.

I don’t think it’s any secret at this point that the dialogue and character interactions in RE4R fascinate me– I quite literally do not shut up about it– but the dialogue between Leon and Krauser is perhaps one of the most intriguing parts to me. Specifically how Krauser talks to Leon because it’s just so… interesting.
I’ve already discussed how the lore changed and how that changes the nature of Leon and Krauser’s relationship, and in a way, I’m sorta leaning toward there’s something happening there. People often joke about how there’s “no hetero explanation for this” but I mean… Now whether or not it was one sided or what exactly the nature of this relationship was is certainly up for debate, but Krauser’s dialogue in combination with his actions feels very deliberate, especially since “pretty boy” now doesn’t mean the same thing as it did back in 2004 when this game takes place.
In current times it’s seen more as a compliment– a boy/man who’s pretty and usually attracts a lot of girls/women because of it, the opposite of a “macho man”. But back in 2004, it wasn’t a compliment. It was almost exclusively used as a derogatory insult towards men who were viewed as feminine and subsequently gay, and usually “fussed over their appearance”. Remember that feminine men meant gay then, and gay meant bad in the 2000s. Gay was used as an insult. And sure, one could overlook this and just write it off as Krauser trying to call Leon pretty as an insult, but Krauser continues to run his mouth. Telling Leon he has “pretty blues” and then everything with him carrying around a picture of Leon, likely from Leon’s dossier? While Krauser is absolutely trying to get inside Leon’s head, I find it interesting that his tactics are telling Leon he’s pretty (and bringing up Leon’s past trauma and guilt too).
I’d give anything to have been in the writer’s room when they were coming up with this stuff. Was it intended to come off this way and this is Capcom’s “wink wink, nudge nudge” way of doing things since they’d rather reboot the franchise then come out and say Krauser had a thing for Leon or did they just lean so far into the early 2000s homoeroticism that they accidentally made it gay, I need an explanation lmfao.
Also important to note but not necessarily intended by the devs:
2004 was the height of “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” in the US military. You were literally not allowed to be “out” and serving in the military. On top of all the other wild power dynamics at play in a potential Krauser/Leon relationship, Krauser COULD NOT be known to be attracted to another man and still keep his career.
I sincerely doubt this was an intended aspect to the way Krauser’s portrayed (I honestly have my doubts Capcom doesn’t just think there’s a totally reasonable heterosexual way to be that intense towards another man) but it can add a really interesting wrinkle to fanon interpretations.
(And mine’s that holy shit yeah did these two have something going on, at the very least from Krauser’s side.)
