Sometimes I think about how the vast overwhelming majority of married professional athletes get divorced. Not Shane and Ilya, obviously, don’t be crazy. But what if Scott and Kip got divorced?
The Centaurs are playing in New York and Shane doesn’t travel with the team because of some, like, very minor injury, don’t worry, he’s fine. Scott asks Ilya to get a drink afterwards, but not at the Kingfisher, somewhere else, no reason. He is absolutely miserable to be confiding in fucking Ilya Rozanov about this, but he eventually confesses that he and Kip are getting divorced.
He says that after he came out, there was all this pressure to make sure the story had a happy ending. He was with Kip when he came out, of course they had to get married! Maybe he didn’t really think about what it meant to actually be married, though. Everything just happened really fast. And, like — Shane and Ilya got married right after they came out. Does Ilya ever feel like they rushed into things? Did he feel that pressure to get married to make the whole thing more palatable?
(For our purposes we are in book canon, Scott and Kip went from getting together to coming out in like six months and Scott doesn’t really know how long Shane and Ilya have been together.)
And Ilya is like, “Cool story, but my relationship has traveled more roads and suffered more obstacles than you could ever possibly imagine. One time Shane had to google because he didn’t know that the word for what he was trying to describe was ‘microagression’ and then he had to get out his Russian dictionary, but there’s no Russian word for ‘microagression’ so he kind of invented one, and then we could finally finish our argument about whether the Voyageurs were being a shitty team and also we were doing all of this over FaceTime because I was in Ottawa and Shane was in Pittsburgh. Actually getting married was a footnote at the end of the 200 page dissertation of things that we did to make that relationship work.” Because obviously a central tenet of Shane and Ilya’s relationship is that they do kind of think their relationship is better than everyone else’s and I don’t know, maybe they make some valid points!
I also like the idea of Ilya being utterly baffled, like, “I have literally only ever made romantic choices that I knew would make the rest of the world unhappy, you’re asking me if I felt pressured to get married? And you think I would care about that? Grandpa, I cannot relate.”
Also, because he’s Ilya, he has known that Scott and Kip were going to get divorced for like a year and a half at this point.
"t4t is for trans women"
"egg is for trans women"
"tranny is only reclaimable by trans women"
"femboy is only reclaimable by trans women"
example of transmasc erasure
Me who was pretty sure t4t was for everyone trans (including me and my enby partner) and noted that and got called hateful and got a bunch of shitty asks and a bunch of other shit now reading this: I FUCKIN KNEW IT
Banana Fish getting kicked off of Prime and immediately receiving 2 (!!) ACTUAL dubs feels like watching a friend get back their spark after a toxic relationship
didn’t Neil Josten say some shit in tfc that was along the lines of “Neil Josten wasn’t memorable or original, he wore the same six outfits, he didn’t talk much, his favorite color was gray” like that isn’t the most conspicuous favorite color fucking ever???? genuinely saying you’re favorite color is gray automatically solos anyone else in terms of rarity/memorability all of roygbiv, black, white brown, and specifically naming a shade raise no follow up questions but i’m asking what makes gray your favorite color if i hear it.
i just want to remind everyone that to kevin, kevin day’s coaching techniques/tactics are basically gentle parenting,
Reblog if you will never. Ever. Use AI in your writing.
kids of color, you’re allowed to get a bitey when a white friend does something racist. literally 0 percent of people of color are obligated to be nice and palatable for white people. holding your tongue in the name of kindness doesn’t really do much in regards to stuff like this because white people are going to see you calling out their own racism as unkind anyways. white people, if a person of color comes off as aggressive while calling you out for racism, just fucking listen to them. they’re not coming from nowhere, and believe it or not: they know more about racism than you do! shocker, i know. just thickskin it, because it’s really not about you.
white ppl can rb but keep your damn mouths shut
if I see one more "why age verification is bad" post that doesn't even bother to mention that locking young people out of huge sections of the public sphere - literally the stated goal and primary impact of this shit - is wrong in and of itself I will simply start hitting people with bricks
yes yes biometric data privacy blah blah adults can hypothetically by harmed by this too. what about the immediate and deliberate and not at all hypothetical harm to youth. why are you acting like a potential data leak about what your face looks like, which if it ever happened would at least be generally recognised as a problem, is a more serious issue than cutting millions of people off from information and community and public expression which is happening right now in the open with large scale support
it's got the stench of fucking "banned books week" on it. thousands of adults congratulating themselves for reading books literally no one is trying to stop them from reading while doing nothing to improve access for the young people who are the ones actually having those books made off-limits to them.
[normal person voice] as we all know, the public sphere consists largely of strip clubs and pools of glowing green acid
If door ID checks, and other safety guide rails are functioning, then yes I think the kids could be at the club. My uncle took me to a club that allowed kids a few times when I was young and it was a lark. I drank soda, danced, marveled at the fog and lasers. Literally it was fine.
The problems that they're claiming to want to solve are still problems that need solutions, though. Roblox is a festering waste pool, YouTube and tiktok pull kids into bad places and encourage bad behavior, Instagram and Snapchat are so incredibly bad for kids mental health. Kids are not mentally equipped for the unfiltered Internet like adults and even teens are (some of the time).
Most parents don't do shit about their kids' Internet habits, many that do don't do enough or do way too much for the wrong reasons (ie block kids from queer support but for some reason not from radicals and other awful things).
I'm generally all for children's rights, but the right to a safe and happy upbringing supercedes the right to tiktoks showing kids shove things in electrical outlets at their schools, so what's a better solution?
oh well of course, if the technologies and social spaces are destroying children's brains and encouraging bad behaviour, we should definitely worry about that because it's clearly true since the same things were never said about malls and skate parks and arcades and video games and TV and movies and raves and dance clubs and bicycles and novels and
as we all know, tiktok invented childrens urge to do stupid and dangerous shit.
Could go either way
Yet another new study debunked the basis for the anti-trans sports bans. It was never about sports but for creating legal avenues for exclusion and abjection. This is one of the largest analyses ever conducted, involving 52 studies and 6,485 trans people. Read the study here.
post so nice had to reblog it twice and force it down everyone's throats
At minimum about 4.5 thousand people liked this without reblogging it.
We gotta fix that.

isn't it insane though how schizophrenic people are viewed as violent and dangerous by the majority of society when in reality schizophrenic people are nearly 14 times more likely to be on the receiving end of violence than to be the perpetrators...
schizophrenic person: makes a post trying to raise awareness about the disproportionate abuse and harmful stereotypes schizophrenic people face
yall: "yeah im not gonna reblog this they used the word ins*ne which is so problematic ://"
What the fuck happens that changes these stats to such a massive degree?
1) schizophrenia hardly ever causes people to be violent so schizophrenic people aren’t more likely to be violent than anyone else
2) schizophrenic people’s autonomy is often taken away from them because of their schizophrenia. because the authorities and mental healthcare providers often automatically assume schizophrenic people to be violent, they’re more likely to immediately react to schizophrenic people's symptoms with violence, without even knowing for sure said schizophrenic person was going to be violent. all of this causes schizophrenic people to be more likely of being victims of violence and abuse. schizophrenic people also have a harder time getting out of abusive households because of the risk of their autonomy being taken away. if a schizophrenic person’s relative or partner is abusive, often the schizophrenic person has no way out of the situation, both because our disconnect from reality can result in us being easier to manipulate, and because the system is built in a way that it takes away our autonomy because of our condition.
also schizophrenic people and psychotic people in general, please do a lot of research before picking a provider for your own sake, and if they try to treat your psychosis in a way that you think is harmful then don’t hesitate to switch providers. your safety and wellbeing should be a priority over everything else.
can y'all please reblog this version instead
Subtitles putting "[speaks foreign language]" instead of transcribing what theyre saying... how much effort does it take to just Google the language theyre speaking then write down what they say. You dont even have to hire a translator
I disagree. there is no shortcut around translators, especially in official media. translating apps like google translate can often get the gist of what's being said but a lot is lost in the process and those apps are known to frequently get things wrong.
translation apps can only translate the basic meanings of words. nuances like tone, slang connotations, plays on words, etc. are lost. translating languages is an art, it's not as simple as directly translating individual words and compiling them into a sentence.
additionally, the point of subtitles is accuracy to what's being said. with captions for D/HOH people it's important to directly transcribe what's said in the original language- not translate it. the goal is to give D/HOH viewers the exact same experience as hearing viewers
This. This times a thousand. This screamed into the void. For every single hearing person that complains about [foreign language spoken] captioned. You are fundamentally missing the point of captions. Accurate captions for [foreign language speaking] should include a written out caption IN THAT LANGUAGE. Every single time I see a complaint about it it's ALWAYS "but I want it in English". Did you stop to think about the intentionality behind a non English speaking character using that language? Whenever star trek has non captioned characters speaking Klingon I don't see complaints about not having English captions. When K-Pop Demon Hunters had written out captions in Korean when characters were using Korean I didn't see complaints about not having English captions there.
This English centered narrative is hindering my access to captions. Full stop. We are still fighting ESPN for picture in picture on screen interpreters for the super bowl. We are fighting youtube and other social medias for the complete lack of caption control quality, and we have been fighting for 20 years now. The subtitles on DVDs and most streaming services are still allowed to take some of the most egregious shortcuts when it comes to caption access for the deaf community.
And every. single. Time. We want to have this conversation it is always thrown right back to "but I don't like the [foreign language speaking] indicators". Half the time I don't know what tones are being used, if there's music, if someone is singing, if there's major background noise, comedic impersonations.
The majority of TV and movies are MADE for English speaking/hearing audiences. Why are you spending so much time complaining about the tiny blip of [foreign language speaking]? If you're hearing try watching a movie you've never seen before relying ONLY on captions, then watch it again with sound. Then try to understand just how much a person like me, 100% deaf born and raised, missed.
Captions are access
