apparently the old KOTOR/KOTOR 2 promo booklets were recently digitized:

the main characters section lists Revan, Carth, Bastila, Jolee, Calo Nord (!!), Canderous, Malak, and the Sith (in that order). seems reasonable that there was supposed to be a choice between Calo or Canderous for one of the companion slots

the entire booklet keeps up the no pronouns for Revan thing (novel + swtor take notes)

Malak apparently covered up his betrayal and swore revenge on the Jedi for Revan's "death"

Revan kind of wiped out any lingering attention to Exar Kun by starting a new war and a new order of Fallen Jedi-turned-Sith

they felt the need to specify that the mechanic on Korriban is competent

the KOTOR guide says Revan is a Knight; the KOTOR 2 guide says Revan was a Master

this seems to imply Revan was a Knight when they left but a Master later on- either someone granted them the title mid-war (maybe when they became Supreme Commander?) or they're informally considered a Master bc of all the Padawans/younger Knights they trained

I think this is the only place they're referred to as a Master so I'm going to assume it was disputed by the Order- maybe one of the Masters who joined them or one of the local Councils granted them the title, but the Coruscant Council refused to certify it?

is this the first canonization of Revan's gender?

the Jedi Civil War is also referred to as the Old Republic Insurrection

"Malak lets the Jedi drag Revan from his throne" is certainly a Way to phrase it. he shot them in the head with a turbolaser

it also makes it sound like the Jedi actually won that duel?? they didn't have time to do anything other than stand there while Revan twirled their lightsaber ominously in Bastila's direction

this suggests Revan had other apprentices other than Malak (I guess in line with the implication that they were a maybe-not-Coruscant-approved Master at some point?)

maybe it's referring to the og learners from the beginning of the war? in which case it implies Ferroh is dead :(

personally I like to imagine that Ferroh tried to kill Malak (and lost) when he found out about the betrayal

maybe they meant it was mostly the power base of the Sith during Revan's rule, and the capital switched to the Star Forge during Malak's rule, but the academy Sith stuck around?

LS male Canon Revan (Karpyshyn!Revan): was a Knight during the war, only trained Malak, somehow found the time to record a full holocron's worth of sith tutorials, rejoined the Jedi post-KOTOR, became a Master, married Bastila (and had Vaner), vanished into the Unknown Regions to fight the Vitiate!True Sith, was found by the Exile and T3, and went through the events of the novel + SWTOR. Star Forge destroyed but Revan squirreled a chunk of it away. LS female Exile.

LS female Revan (Gaider!Revan): was a Knight during the war, only trained Malak, left the Jedi post-KOTOR, presumably remained a Knight, and romanced Carth. Star Forge destroyed.

DS male Canon Revan (Avellone!Revan): was a Master during the war, possibly trained multiple apprentices, ruled the Sith post-KOTOR, vanished into the Unknown Regions to fight the Eldritch!True Sith, and was found by the Exile (unknown alignment/gender), HK, and T3. Star Forge dormant.

DS male #2 Canon Revan (Filoni!Revan): presumably was a Master during the war, possibly trained multiple apprentices, ruled the Sith post-KOTOR, left a (non-Lucas-approved, and therefore cut) Sith ghost that appeared on Mortis. probably the same character as Avellone!DS male Revan, though continuity is unclear without KOTOR 3 being released. Star Forge alive? Darth Tanis may or may not have been a DS female Exile.

Finally we have some faces for this setting! Not one of these guys is having a normal time. There's technically a fourth but I'm saving him for later. More info about each individual pilot below, for the curious.

TURNER

Turner is unpopular among her fellow soldiers. As a teen she and a fellow cadet tried to desert the army, but they were caught and as punishment their God forced one of them to kill the other to prove their loyalty. Turner chose to kill her friend because she didn't want to be the one to die, earning her her callsign and reputation as a back-stabber. She was made to serve as an executioner, disposing of prisoners of war and traitors. Eventually she was transferred to the Navigation Corps. She uses sonar to chart safe pathways through Hevspace's perilous weather. Turner is difficult to get along with. She's stiff and uptight, focused on nothing but service to her Church. She's still intent on proving her loyalty, wearing it like a shield against her guilt. Beneath her emotional walls she's a terrified mess who still believes she's a coward.

SMOKEY Lieutenant General Smokey goes to great lengths to prove his worthiness. Originally a scout, he has spent his entire life climbing the ranks in an effort to gain equal footing with his Church's High Corps. His ideas are often brushed off despite the great lengths he goes to carry out the Seer's orders. He's what most heritors would call a tryhard. He's not afraid to push others down to get what he wants, harbouring an 'every man for himself' mentality.

MATCHSTICK Matchstick is one of the unfortunate pilots serving in the Church of The Advance, enduring especially dangerous and grim conditions to develop their latest new weapons. She's a part of a salvage crew who siphon fuel and recover vessel parts from battlefields. Matchstick is paranoid about losing her autonomy, using humour and levity to cope with her own powerlessness. She enjoys getting a rise out of other people.

my petty gripe about anachronism in historical/fantasy/spec-fic worlds is attraction language.

We’ve all heard the “should you use modern queer labels or not” argument but honestly even when people go “true, they wouldn’t use the labels ‘aromantic’ or ‘asexual,’” so often the characters describe their experiences as “I never felt romantic attraction” or “I don’t feel attracted to anyone” in ways that makes me go. You are stilllllll thinking about this in an extraordinarily modern online way. That 19th century steampunk detective man will NOT be angsting about having never felt romantic attraction, he would be angsting about being unable to feel moved by the beauty or charm of a woman, or something. And I do think that “attractiveness” language is different from the identity-level idea of experiencing attraction—Sherlock Holmes does not talk about not experiencing attraction, but when Watson says “What a very attractive woman!” Holmes responds “Is she? I did not observe.” (And then Watson calls him an inhuman automaton and calculating-machine and Holmes calls Watson’s judgement biased). Never swayed by the attractiveness of a man or woman, never desirous of marriage, never charmed by the delights of love, all of these feel like some of the variety of ways that someone in this milieu might describe an ace- or aro-spectrum identity more than “never felt attraction” does. Mostly because, like the terms for aromantic and asexual themselves, nailing down an exclusively attraction-based definition of a-spec identities is a relatively new and extremely post-AVEN thing. And yet in fiction everybody knows to articulate their experience as feeling sexual/romantic attraction. And I always want to go nooo how would THIS character think about it?? Not how you think this character SHOULD think about it, how would THIS person in THIS context articulate their feelings?
