As for the announcement, ive been struck with a lot of writers and art block as of late. I know i can do better, so im doing a challenge to flex my creative muscles!

The Gay and Lesbian Kingdom of the Coral Sea Islands is a micronation near Australia.  This is their flag:

The Gay Kingdom (as it is colloquially known) was founded in 2004 in protest against Australia’s legal stance against same-sex marriage.

Here are some of their stamps:

They are currently ruled by Emperor Dale I, and their currency is the Pink Dollar.

And, indeed - they declared war on Australia for not recognizing same-sex marriages performed outside the country.  (Second link.)

okay, but not enough people know the details on this. people at pride were upset about gay rights in australia. so they decided to sail 200 miles into the coral sea just ‘cause and put a rainbow flag on a fucking empty island out of spite. and i’m talking empty. no inhabitants. zero. it was a flat piece of land with a bit of dry grass. now it has a camp site and a post office. 

they have a declaration of independence that talks a bit about gay rights and then just flat out copies the “life liberty and the pursuit of happiness” part from the american declaration of independence. and here’s the best part: the founding group actually elected their emperor. he was originally going to be called the “administrator” of a republic. their website, however, says that “upon legal advice, his title was changed to that of Sovereign on the grounds that under Australian law a defacto prince trying to claim his crown cannot be charged with treason”. so they made it a kingdom and he now claims to be a descendent of edward ii.

everything about this is glorious and everyone should know about it.

As previously mentioned, the idea originated at Pride (Brisbane 2003) in reaction to punitive anti-marriage legislation

“On the 14th day of June 2004, at this highest point in the Coral Sea, Emperor Dale Parker Anderson raised the gay rainbow flag and claimed the islands of the Coral Sea in his name as homeland for the gay and lesbian peoples of the world. God Save our King!”

The campsite/capital Heaven was named after the London nightclub

War was declared on Australia in September 2004

The aforementioned stamps were issued in July 2006 “with the aim of creating a high and distinctive reputation amongst the philatelic fraternity”

They were never recognized legally/internationally as a micronation (and in fact Anderson refused to attend a conference in 2010 because they weren’t actually trying to be a sovereign nation)

In Feb 2017, Abetz was objecting to the flag of a “hostile nation” being flown

AUDHD is Horrific

and People Don’t Talk About It Enough

Sometimes I wish people understood what it actually feels like to live with AUDHD the combination of Autism and ADHD. It’s not quirky, it’s not “cute,” and it’s definitely not just being distracted or socially awkward. It’s a daily battle inside your own mind, and most of the world never sees the internal exhaustion behind it.

Living with AUDHD means having a brain that can’t decide whether it wants absolute structure or total chaos. One moment you’re overstimulated to the point of shutting down, and the next moment you’re stuck in a spiral of hyperactivity and racing thoughts. You crave routine but get bored of it. You want to focus but your brain refuses to cooperate. You want calm, but everything feels too loud, too bright, too fast.

People see the outside the forgetfulness, the fidgeting, the sensitivity, the intense interests and they assume it’s manageable. But they don’t see the burnout that hits without warning. They don’t feel the sensory overload that makes small things feel unbearable. They don’t experience the guilt of wanting to do things but being unable to start, or the frustration of trying your absolute best while still being labeled “lazy,” “dramatic,” or “unmotivated.”

And the worst part is the loneliness. Because AUDHD often makes you feel “too much” for everyone. Too sensitive, too emotional, too intense, too overwhelmed. So you learn to mask. You pretend you’re fine. You try to act “normal,” even when your brain is screaming.

But here’s the truth: AUDHD is not a character flaw. It’s not a choice. It’s a reality that deserves understanding, compassion, and awareness. People who live with it are fighting battles every single day and doing it quietly.

If you know someone with AUDHD, be kind. Be patient. Believe them. Support matters more than you realize.

I see ye olde discourse about the use of art references being "cheating" is on the rise again lately. I suppose in the age of generative ai and ai accusations, it was just inevitable that we'd get the reference discourse again...

As someone who actually went to college art classes and learned some art history, references are the oldest tool artists have. And as a matter of fact, the ability to directly trace a reference has been around far longer than you might expect! There are some very old ways to project images from reality onto a page/canvas! So even "well you can use references but never ever trace!!" is a bad argument! All those unusually high detail old paintings we admire in art museums? There's a chance a good number of those used some form of tracing! not just observation!

the trouble with tracing comes when you're using it to do art theft. And I do include the tracing of ai references in that.

The best way to use references, traced or observed, is to make sure you vary your sources and use irl images whenever possible. This is more helpful for growing your art skills and keeping the fundamentals of anatomy and proportion in your reference pool. the end goal is not to become the type of artist who never needs references, it's to become the type of artist who knows how to use references well!

I also don't think you need to go crediting every single image you reference, that one might be a more controversial opinion. if it's the only reference you used and it's from a source that requires credit, then please do credit that source! but my goodness, if someone is just tracing a hand pose over here and a stock photo over there, cobbling together multiple pose references, etc, there's really no reason to add all those credits to your final art post. I understand it's a courtesy to help avoid art theft accusations, but most of the time it's probably not necessary. It's more helpful to just generally refer other artists to your favorite resources, like senshistock, posespace, or the animal photo reference repository.

Anyway, I made a post some time ago about how to use references, I might remake it.
