ā§ "Far be it from me to judge its combat efficiency, but it isn't a bother to keep a beast of that size fed?" Skirk was eyeing Camilla's undead wyvern. She didn't feel any disgust towards it even though plenty of people would probably see it as an affront to life itself. She just eyed it with her back against the nearby wall. Camilla was a familiar face from her previous stay, so she had lingered for a small chat.
"Dead or alive, I'm assuming it must still burn calories? Is there a particular diet you have to feed it?" Skirk had a particular business arrangement in mind, but she wanted to hear the answer to her question first.
i'm planning on continuing my ongoing threads, but i'm interested in adding a few more so like this for a starter! ill be placing a cap at 3.
they were uncomfortable parallels to Teyvat, the Traveler's eyes falling low upon mention of the Heavenly Principles. even now, without having encountered them, awareness of such a being sent both a chill and resentment flowed through her.
"yes, it's likely a one-way mirror that they can observe us through. to what end, I don't know. if we're meant to fight through the false sky to reach them, nobody's found a means". if it were a challenge, chances were it was impossible by design ā while some might adapt and grow numb to the fact they were held captive here, those capable of bearing grudges vehemently would be the first to make the Stars regret their actions had they means of breaking through. though to be honest...
"I can say this much ā the ability to seal our power is one they share. the Sustainer of the Heavenly Principles did that to me when she prevented my brother and I from leaving Teyvat. with how much power the Stars wield, governing a world beyond reach and with intentions we aren't able to discern, I don't think it's wrong to view them and the Heavenly Principles in similar lights".
ā§ Skirk didn't shy away from the fact that there were aspects of Teyvat's systems that she didn't quite understand. She effectively operated outside of them, and the understanding she did have came from whatever she had gleamed from her conversations with Alice and who knew how honest she was being with that personality of hers. "Indeed. I've theorized for a while now that by being placed within Teyvat by Surtalogi's power, I was spared the fate that you and your sibling received. Perhaps the title of "Descender" can only be obtained if you're forced to throw away your powers from beyond the sky?"
It was that, or the Heavenly Principles had certain criteria for who could or couldn't enter.
Not that she'd gotten a clear answer from anyone on the subject. It was just a theory and one that didn't matter much since it didn't exactly alter her circumstances. It effectively meant that the world's systems hadn't "accepted" her. She was a foreign object hiding within its tunnels.
"Regardless of whether it's the work of the Heavenly Principles or the Stars, the motivation is clearly the same. Control. They don't want anyone making waves in their still pond. They're very meticulous about what they expect from the people that live here."
āY-yeah... Yeah, of course...ā Till just barely resists the urge to smack his hand over his face. Till might as well have asked her to demonstrate what one of her arms did. And what did he expect anyway? For her to perform tricks for him like some pet? Embarrassing...
He sits quietly while she talks about her complicated relationship with the person who hurt her so badly. Shockingly, he thinks he can sympathize, at least a little.
Looking up, Till finds himself meeting her eyes.
āI think...ā He begins after a moment of hesitation, āThat Iām supposed tā tell ya ānot to play into what he expects of you. Be the bigger person, donāt bring yourself down to his level, live and let go.ā That sort of thing.ā Till scowls.
āBut honestly? Fuck that. If killinā him will make ya feel better and maybe make the world a better placeāwhy not knock him off his pedestal? Show others they canāt do that sort of thing without consequence. I... I only just met ya, b-but you seem plenty capable...ā
Till allows himself to break eye contact, looking back down at his shoes with a half-hearted shrug.
ā...But Iām definitely not the best person tā be givinā life advice...ā
ā§ Till clearly had good intentions with what he was saying, at least the first half, but Skirk still had to chuckle at the thought of not "bringing herself down" to Surtalogi's level. "I'm not even sure if defeating him would make me feel any better. I'm not going to defeat him by my own choice, he's the one that's challenged me. And he'll continue to haunt me until one of us inevitably succumbs." The smirk on her lips lingered.
If she could take any solace, it was that it was unlikely he would find her in Spirale.
"You're likely not best suited to give me life advice, true. But don't take that the wrong way. There's likely not another person out there that's lived a life quite like mine. And besides, I'm likely at least 20 times older than you." Assuming he aged like a normal human did anyways.
He was clearly bitter about the hand he had been dealt in life. A feeling she could certainly understand. "My name is Skirk." For someone that was hesitant to identify herself to strangers, she offered her name more readily than she used to. Perhaps it was because she had recently decided to open her heart more. Maybe it was because he reminded her of Ajax. Just a little bit. "We've been talking for a while, and I realized I've yet to introduce myself."

ā§ Because Dori was doing her business in Nashu Town as of late, Skirk had found herself in Nod-Krai more often. She didn't know anyone else by name, but she was vaguely aware of the factions through her interactions with the merchant. For example, there had been an instance where she had been dealing with a customer with antlers in garb that was of a similar make to this woman's.
A Frostmoon Scion, then? Not that she said that aloud. It would only draw unnecessary suspicions towards someone that should have been a ghost to Teyvat.
Skirk might have avoided interacting with her entirely, but she'd been put between a rock and a hard place. The Mistwood was an isolated place, it was already late, and they'd crossed paths before she could hide herself. She raised her hands to show she wasn't armed. "I don't mean any harm. Just passing through to the city." Skirk wasn't naive enough to realize that her appearance wasn't slightly... intimidating. She didn't want to give her a scare.
ā§ "It's amusing how many holidays this world appears to have." Maybe Teyvat wasn't that dissimilar from what she had seen. "That doesn't mean it's a bad thing. It's important to make fond memories when you can."

"..........Sorry. It's easy to forget this place is filled with others from different worlds, even ones now lost. "
"My only regret is not understanding my father enough to try and stop him. "
ā§ "I've already had hundreds of years to process that loss, it's fine." The loss of her planet wasn't, but the woman's words were forgivable.
"I can hardly remember the faces of my parents at this point, but if you can... Perhaps you still have a chance at understanding him. Surely there must be someone in this city with some sort of power that could help you?"
there's no deal with alice here to stop me from beating up teyvat's villains huh...

āThanks. You ān me both...ā Till says, vindictively. Mizi seems determined in her resolution not to tell him what happened after he was shot, but he hopes whatever happened to Mizi happened to every stinking segyein in that audience, a million times worse.
āW-wha...?ā Till responds intelligently to the sight of the fin on her back. ā...Not gonna lie tā ya, thatās a new one even to me... I donāt got nothinā nearly as interestinā as that. D-does it... do anything?ā
Tillās eyes dart around awkwardly, trying not to look at her. Between her arms and her legs and now even her back, he doesnāt want her to think that heās staring at her, but itās hard for his eyes not to be drawn back to her star-laden legs in particular. Flustered, eventually, he settles on having an intense staring contest with his feet.
...Until she tells him the origins of such deceptively sparkling and shining appendages, and the color quickly drains from his face.
āIām... sorry.ā Till tries to inject as much honesty into his words as he can. He knows well that such hurts and loss of autonomy run deepāmuch deeper than words can reachāand he never knows what to say.
āI hope you got a shot at their arms ān legs too,ā he adds venomously, mirroring her sentiment from earlier. āI hope you gave āem as good as you got.ā
ā§ Skirk was accustomed to being stared at. She knew she stood out even among the citizens of Teyvat, and while they would always forget about her the moment she disappeared from their sight (barring a few exceptions like Dori), she still knew the gazes of the people she came across often scrutinized the more unique aspects of her appearance.
There was a little bit of a smirk on the woman's face at the young man's question. "Nothing I could readily demonstrate at the moment." It helped her balance and maneuver when "swimming" through the air, but it was something her people were just born with. She remembered how the merchants that had first come to her planet were curious about it.
...And how that probably should have been their first clue that they didn't have good intentions.
"It's fine. I don't think you meant any harm, and I'm the one that initiated this exchange in the first place." Skirk wasn't at the point just yet where she was able to properly vocalize her feelings about Surtalogi. The Traveler had seen her memories so that had made it easier, but in the case of a stranger... Well, he probably didn't need to know anyways. "My goal in life is to defeat him, but that's just what he wants from me."
"I'll make sure I don't disappoint."
Lumine found herself screeching to a halt at mention of Abyssal energy. knowing well that Aether retained only a fragment of his strength, and without ill-intent driving his course beneath Teyvat's surface, there was no reason to suspect he'd been hiding anything. but nobody else on the island could wield that power. in fact the closest after him were Skirk herself.
fingers curled against their opposite limb wrapped around Paimon, apprehensive to impart what she'd learned ā not to keep Skirk in the dark, but merely... because of how uncomfortably it resembled Teyvat's own mysterious makeup.
"there is... an area here known as the Abyss. maybe that's what you're sensing. it doesn't seem to be the same as the one that plagues Teyvat ā it's something much closer to the Night Kingdom in Natlan. death here isn't permanent. if you fall, you awaken in this Abyss and traversing it brings you back to this side of the island. that's what I've been told by someone who's been there".
though the question as to whether there was an Abyss equivalent lurking, a poison that would lunge up and grab her brother, Childe, Skirk, herself, anyone.
ā§ "Hmm..." Skirk, after crossing her arms and leaning against a nearby wall, listened carefully to the Traveler's words with her crimson eyes pointed down at the ground. It was easier for her to focus on important information like this even though some people might find it rude. It wasn't like she had many people to look in the eye normally. At most she communicated with Alice, who had her own ways of contacting her, and Dori when she needed to trade.
"That explains some things, thank you. I assume you've noticed that the sky here is like Teyvat's as well?" No cracks had formed in it yet, but it was definitely fake. So much of the island appeared to be, but for what reason she couldn't say. It was likely related to their imprisonment, but then why cut off the view of the real sky?
"The Heavenly Principles may not exist here, but... Well, I don't know how apt of a comparison it actually is." She weighed bringing it up, but she was a little curious. Lumine was a Descender, after all. Had she arrived at the same conclusion? "Doesn't it feel like these "Stars" fulfill a similar role?"
" That's difficult to do when it's for the very reason that your world is on the brink of ruin."
ā§ "An emotional response, so I'll forgive it. But who's to say I'm not familiar with the fear of losing a world? ...Or have already lost one."
"Sometimes we have no choice but to live with regrets. What matters is what you do with them."
