his body moves like he was on autopilot while his mind panics and thinks of every possible reaction sheâd give. With each step he took towards the door of their shared bedroom, his heart beat faster and faster until he felt like he needed to puke from all the pressure.
even at work, he kept asking his friends what to do for this special moment. he came to izuku to ask which ring he should get, bringing him along to different types of jewelry stores. he had one goal in mind: to have her wedding ring be the same as her birthstone because a diamond seemed too basic for him. (damn bro, she wouldâve loved a simple diamond ring)
then he went to kirishima, asking what to say because câmon. if katsuki hadnât cared about making this moment special, he wouldâve thrown a few meaningless threats and insults innit.
it took him all day to finally prepare for this very moment. wearing this expensive and spicy cologne that kirishima gave, having his hair styled by him but eventually ruffled it back to its normal spiky blonde (because she likes it better this way)
this was it, the moment heâs been building everything up for. with a small velvet box in one hand and his other reaching for the doorknob, he was finally going to pop the question to her. he wonders how he should ask the question; nonchalantly? quirky? coldly? fuck, none of these were the right one!
he spent his whole month racking his brain for the right moment, the right outfit, the right ring, and the right tone for asking â because thatâs how much of a perfectionist he is, only the best for her.
he stood staring at the door, bracing himself for he was finally about to determine what his future with her would be like. he could hear her talking to someone on the phone.
he closes his eyes, forcing himself to take a breath and just do it. i mean, whatâs the worst that could happen?
he opens the door, the box hidden behind him while his eyes land on hers with a nervous smile. her head snaps to him, looking a little jumpy than usual.
âi-iâll call you back!â and then a press on her phone as her focus drifts back to katsuki.
she pats to the space beside her, inviting him to sit down on the edge of the bed. she places her phone down between them.
he gives himself a second, thinking over the words to not mess this up. he places the velvet box right out of her sight, hands fidgeting as he stutters.
âlook, yâknow iâm not used to this sappy stuff right? but i just wanna let you know that youâre the one. youâre the one i wanna come home to, the one i want to cook for, the one i want to be fighting with for the rest of my life⌠and i wanna be that person for you as well,â
he takes the box behind him, going down on one knee. her eyes widened, heart dropping as soon as he opened the tiny box in his large, calloused hands. her breath was knocked right out of her lungs, looking at him strangely.
âso⌠can i marry you?â
her lips agape, struggling to find the right words. he looked so serious, it hurt. there were so many things he didnât know, things sheâd rather have him innocent of.
her hands trembled, all the silence in waiting was making both of them even more anxious.
ââŚkatsuki, you donât even know me.â
âi know you enough that i want to be yours. i donât.. get it, is there a problem?â
he lowers the ring, his heart hammering through his chest. this wasnât playing out as he hoped it will.
âiâm not who you think i am,â she breathes out, eyes full of pity as she crouches to get down to his level, hands enveloping his that held the box.
âi canât marry you.â
his heart shatters visibly for her to see the sparkle fading from his crimson eyes. he slowly pulls away, sadness displayed as he could only hold her gaze.
the sight tears her apart with guilt, hands clenching as she mentally curses herself.
her phone lights up with a message, and both of them turn towards it. the screen shows a text from a well-known villain, one that many heroes have been hunting down.
âthe mission is complete. you may return to base.â
his brows furrowed once he read it, his eyes began to widen as he couldnât believe what he was reading⌠and who the message came from.
his eyes shift back to hers, searching her face for any hint that tells him that what heâs thinking isnât true, that the love of his life was a traitor. unfortunately for bakugo, life truly had its ways.
as for her, she looked indifferent. the look on her face, determined for whatever goal she had in mind. a second ago, she looked worried, concerned even. but now⌠now that he knows, she fully expected him to turn her in. she knew she had to set her feelings aside, and remember what sheâd done all of this for.
âit was never meant to be.â
she said, right before knocking him out with a blow to the head. katsukiâs body went out unconscious as she stood up and prepared to leave without a trace. she figured heâd have his guard down, especially since sheâs spent over a year tricking him into doing so in their relationship..
she gathers all her stuff, the guilt beginning to gnaw at her conscience as she tries hard to shake it off.
the organization she works in has been planning for a full-on riot, having collected various intel that truly gave them an upper hand because of y/nâs successful undercover mission. days have passed, and she couldnât suppress the guilt anymore. while her fellow members were celebrating, waiting for the right day to strike, her mind wandered nonstop towards katsuki. after all, sheâs spent more than a year with him⌠sheâs not used to not being by his side anymore.
alas, the day havoc was wreaked upon musutafu came. numerous clashes and fighting between villains and heroes were seen, but she refused to fight any of the other heroes. in the midst of the battle⌠she came back to the one place where it all started: their apartment.
she opens the door with the key she still possesses, the door creaks as she sees how dim and sad the sight is. nothing even changed, it was all still organized and clean⌠but lonely.
she enters, seeing a picture frame of her and bakugo shattered on the ground. it mustâve fallen from the mantle. she crouches down to pick it up, a wave of sadness and regret instantly hitting her as she starts to reminisce on all the memories theyâve spent. each walls of the apartment were engraved with their arguments, their laughter, them.
from the reflection of the shattered glass, she saw a figure enter the doorway and stayed there. she instinctively reacted, grabbing a shard of the glass and throwing it towards the person behind her.
to her surprise, it was none other than katsuki bakugo. her eyes widened at the sight of him, he didnât look like his confident self anymoreâŚ
he tilts his head to the side, evading the shard thrown towards his head with little effort as it shatters even more when it hits the wall behind him. only katsuki could predict her combat, he was the one who taught her most of it, after all. he looked like he hadnât slept in a while, looked like he was stripped of every confidence and belief he had in himself.
he was the husk of a man who once lived the perfect life, the man who rose through the ranks quickly, the man who was rich not just in money, but with a loving girlfriend who supported him in every way.
the sight of him like this pained her, practically tore her heart as she realizes the depth of her betrayal to him.
his brows furrowed, she couldâve sworn she caught him almost flinching from the sound of her voice. he entered, each step careful and calculated while his gaze remained on hers, and kicked the door shut with his foot. did he follow her here..?
âyou shouldâve told me sooner, y/n.â
he walks around the couch, making her back away in instinct. was she scared? very much so.
âwould you have enjoyed knowing what i was up to?â
âi couldâve helped you.â
that earns him a scoff from her, irritation beginning to flare.
ââhelped me?â you think i didnât choose this?!â
only a few more steps before their distance was fully closed. now did she feel what the villains he took down felt, how his large figure and piercing eyes figuratively shook their souls.
he saw the fear in her body language, the way she stepped back, and tried to put distance between them. her hands glowed an aura, a sign that her quirk was activated for defense if ever he would engage her in a fight.
âstay away from me, katsuki.â
â..iâm not gonna hurt you.â
they were two steps away from each other, eyes unable to tear away from each other. why doesnât he seem mad? he should be frustrated! he literally got betrayed by his loved one!
instead, he pulls out the same velvet box from the pocket of his hero suit. he opens the box, then turns it around to show her the ring once more. it was glinting beautifully as it had been the first she saw it, her birthstone truly a breathtaking sight and remained as a reminder of his love for her.
âyou canât tell me what we had wasnât real.â
her eyes stayed on the ring, quirk deactivating as she had her guard down. her breath hitches, the gravity of the situation settling on her chest even more. suddenly, it all comes back to her.
she could feel her heartbeat quickening in her chest, her fingers twitched, not knowing what to do or say.
âyouâre my person, y/n, and you always will be.â
he took one step forward, taking her trembling hand in his own as he slipped the ring onto her finger. she didnât pull back, her eyes flickered from him and to their hands.
then, his eyes met hers with a small reassuring smile. for a moment, they just stared into each other, like this was the last moment theyâll have. a tear fell from her cheek that she didnât even know formed, her hand shifting to intertwine them.
âiâm so sorry, katsuki.â
he lets out a small huff of a chuckle, pulling her close to him as he embraces her. his large arms snaked around her torso, head buried in her hair as he inhales her scent.
âitâs okay, princess.â he shifts a bit, as if pulling something else from his pocket.
âbutâŚyâknow i hate liars, let alone, traitors.â
he pulls away a bit, pressing a small button on a device. her eyes widened, brows furrowed as she was confused. was that a⌠signal device?
suddenly, backup came bursting through the door and from the windows. glass shattered, doors broke, all the men armed with a rifle and pointed at her. she gasped from the sudden presence, eyes shifting all over the place as they got her surrounded.
then, her eyes landed on katsuki, who grabbed her wrists forcefully and put her in modified handcuffs that prevented her from using her quirk. she was still in shock that she couldnât fight him back, her heart sank as she didnât see the eyes of the man she loved, she saw the eyes of the man she hurt. they were cold, emptyâŚdetermined.
he kissed her one last time, a quick and unloving one before he ordered the men to bring her to captivity.
a few of the men approached them as katsuki steps back, grabbing hold of her roughly as they started to escort her out of their home.
she struggled to fight back, there were too many of them and she was in restraints. she glanced over her shoulder, his eyes remained indifferent as he watched her.
his words broke her even more. only now did she realize that this⌠betrayal was what he felt when he first found out. she could feel the tears burning her eyes, the bitter taste of being betrayed left a strong ache in her chest.
katsuki has grown, adapted to her traitorous act. he turned back into the person he was before UA, one who focused on the goal and wonât let anything get in the way ever again.
believe it or not, this is actually based on the song âo sol e a luaâđ
i remembered this trend before, and i miss it! hope this hurts good for yâall as it did for međ¤
