TLDR: it was never serious and it's fine now. that's the quick summary for those who aren't that invested.

ignore my awkward texting. i spent maybe 10 full minutes debating how to respond to just the first message.
obviously i did some digging into "Patton Hart." i mean, this could have been anyone, it was justified cyber stalking. all i could find was a LinkedIn, but everything there checked out. employed with Hero Headquarters, legal dept, whatever, whatever. otherwise his online presence was basically... none. at all. though that's not too unusual for people working closely with heroes.
i showed up (even though this was a very sketchy way to schedule a professional meeting) and there he was. Mr. Hart was, in fact, real. he was also doing the thing people do sometimes when they know i can read minds. repeating a word over and over, or thinking about a song really loudly in an effort to drown out their other thoughts. this continued throughout the meeting, and was mildly annoying.
i prepared some questions before i got there, but it was immediately clear that no structured conversation was going to be happening. i barely sat down before Patton was telling me all about how his husband left his lunch this morning and so he had to run after him and leave it with the lady at the front desk but then he saw the cutest cat in one of those backpack carriers and had to stop to say hi and on and on and ...
anyway, it was a while before we got to the point.
i already decided i wanted to at least get an audio recording in case he pulled some weird legal shit on me. i almost forgot, but i managed to bring it up before we got too far into talking.
below is the entire unedited audio recording i got before my phone died. because of course my phone died.
we talked for a while longer, but i didn't take notes. so that's great. lesson learned, i guess. all the most important parts are in the recording, thankfully.
i'll supposedly be getting a follow up from Roman King himself, so we'll see how that goes. not excited about that. dreading that, actually.

and i would like to lend the deer anatomy/traits tidbits i’ve used in writing m a deer-based character!
• fawn spots that fade with age/maturity, great thing for them to be insecure about or to show development.
• it’s theorized that deer can see more of the spectrum of light than humans, which would explain why they’re most active at late dusk and early dawn. early riser gene truthers who cheered
• velvet shedding during antler growth periods!!! THIS IS MY FAVORITE ONE!!!!! infodump time sorry (i’m not)
okay so if you haven’t existed around deer a lot this might not be common knowledge to you, but basically when a buck’s antlers grow in, they have to shed this stuff called velvet, which is a blood-rich type of tissue that creates antler growth. once the antlers are done growing, all the velvet tissue sloughs off in bloody strips from the antlers, and has to be scraped off onto nearby trees so it doesn’t irritate the deer. here’s an article on it with pictures. it’s gnarly to see irl. especially when the scraping is only like halfway done so there’s a bunch of deer with antlers that look like they’ve impaled something and bloody scratches on trees everywhere. crazy shit.
but for gene specifically, the concept is soooo fun. the growth of a masculine trait being visible and unsettling, leaving him covered in blood and having to rid himself of this dead skin by scraping his skull on hard surfaces. humiliatingly vulnerable, and its cyclical, bloody nature could possibly remind him of periods + dysphoria.
idk just some fun concepts! also of course the thing about deer hunting being one of the most popular sports in rural USA. idk there’s something there ok bye

"although we are metaphysical beings, so-" "you have to eat it you have to" "no, thats- no. you do not have to do that. but you do have to remove it somehow." so gene steels himself and goes back to neutral mode like "okay. i got it. im so fucking locked. everyone get out." looking like hes going to war.
an hour passes and he emerges looking exactly the same. "being a man. is knowing. when to ask. for help." fist clenched and shit. teeth gritted.
patton and roman would pass out if they saw. virgil would find it morbidly interesting, but still would not want to touch Any of that. then ofc janus is not getting his hands dirty period. so freak(logan) and freaker(remus) become the designated Gene Scrapers. The Gene Scraping Squad.
