PERCY JACKSON AND THE OLYMPIANS 2x08 "The Fleece Works Its Magic Too Well"
I know Thalia was confused as fuck in that last scene because she was just hugging her sister and asking where Luke is and for some reason this boy she's never met is looking at her like she punched his grandma
The reveal that Zeus actually turned Thalia into a tree because she disobeyed him was such a good plot twist and ACTUALLY made sense!
It actually showed how cruel and selfish Zeus ACTUALLY IS! And always has been. He punished his daughter because she defied him. He punished her because he couldn't control her.
Just like he let Jason die. He never favored one child over the other. He was cruel and ruthless to them all.
imagine you're having a fight with your father and then boom it's suddenly years later and you've just been unfrozen from being a tree in a summer camp to find the little girl you've raised with your found family brother/soulmate who just turned evil and began following the primordial time master, has grown up and adopted a tiny blonde white boy to protect her and also we're at war and your name is thalia grace
Not to mention the blonde boy immediately starts beefing with you
Percy meddling in the whole Luke-Thalia-Annabeth relationship is so funny because imagine you go to your friend's house and their parents start fighting in front of both of you because the dad (who you used to think was cool) joined a cult and your friend starts crying so you start fist-fighting both of the adults
zeus turning thalia into a tree as punishment for his own mistake (of having her!! her only mistake was that she was born which was not in her control!!!) instead of as an act of mercy, and then forcing chiron and everyone else to lie and say he saved her, is such a good change from the books i wonder why it wasn't done in the books. this choice makes the choice thalia is going to make - which side she's going to be on - an actual problem. also her being 15 and frozen in time as a tree instead of slowly aging makes so much more sense. like this change really shows you why it was so easy for kronos to manipulate luke, because the gods really do not care about them, they've never cared, and it won't be crazy to think that their children would want revenge. what a great writing decision pjotv writers i love you so much
Zeus creating his own problems yet again

If you’ve seen the leaks and audio THISSS is eating!!! 😮
I have seen the leaks and OMG this is such a fun theory for why Thalia isn’t there and the potential line from Grover sounding like “we ran into Luke”
Charlie did say they continue to explore the thaluke dynamic this season so this could be an interesting way to add more interactions between them, I could definitely see Thalia trying to use her connection to Luke to improve her odds of finding Annabeth (but I could also see her simultaneously wanting the opportunity to really talk to Luke and see if he’s actually too far gone)
And ofc Percy would NOT be happy to hear Thalia went off with Luke even under the pretense of it being a fake out to get to Annabeth lol he doesn’t trust anyone but himself to get that job done right! The Thalia/Percy beef is going to be so entertaining in s3 haha can’t wait
"we dive really deep into the Luke Thalia relationship this season"
Idc if this is romantic or just an intense friendship but I'm going to dieeee - the angst 😭😭😭
A lot of the fandom, and some of recent canon seems to forget that in the actual text of The Titan's Curse, Thalia joining the Hunt had absolutely nothing to do with her not being into boys. Not only is there tons of implications about the romantic nature of her relationship with Luke before being turned into a tree, she also even outright makes a comment about how attractive Apollo is.
But, all through the book while the other characters are literally carrying the weight of the world on their shoulders, she has the metaphorical weight of the world on her shoulders, because she's about to turn 16yo, and she doesn’t trust herself to make the right choice if the prophecy comes down to her decision. And just as Artemis took the sky from Annabeth and then handed it to Percy, now Artemis takes the burden of being the prophecy child from Thalia and also gives it to Percy. Thats the main reason she joins the Hunt - because she's tired of carrying a burden so overwhelmingly heavy, that shouldn't be hers, and she can't handle.
And if boys have absolutely anything to do with her reasons for joining the Hunt, it's because her ex went psyco and almost killed her, their kid, and her little cousin, multiple times, and she is now utterly horrified by her taste in men.
Thalia is probably what feels like to her having one of, if not the worst day of her life. Because for her no time passed since she was turned into a tree (which was a change for the better) and then she spent a few days unconcious before the end of S2.
For her, her father turning her into a tree, getting freed from said tree, waking up and realizing that years have passed, her litte sister is a teenager now, Luke is gone and has betrayed the gods (which she can somewhat understand) but he also just fought a battle against children and likely hurt/maybe even killed some of them and Annabeth got hurt in said battle. And all this likely feels to her like it happened in the span of hours. Also there is a random blonde teenager looking at her like she's evil or something.
She is having a terrible time by all measures.
And it's only going to keep getting worse in S3.
Please have them keep the scene from the end of book 3 and have her kick him off the cliff, he kind of deserves it.
It’s complicated 🔱
Not 100% in love with this one alas I shall post
The family ever </3

just noticed that in the scene on the Princess andromeda where luke is asking percy how he knew about the ship, luke is tapping his hands together behind his back in what looks like an anxious fidget
On rewatch, I've noticed that the show is doing a great job of portraying Luke already being manipulated/brainwashed.
E.g. in s2 ep3 when he gives his whole salesman pitch he sounds soo convinced that bringing Kronos & the golden age back is a great idea despite basically saying he'll kill kids/fellow demigods and mortals.
Or in s2 ep7 where he immediately interprets Percy's actions in giving Luke the fleece to save Annabeth as defying the will of the gods & not just Percy wanting to save Annabeth. And then confidently says that healing Kronos with the fleece "saves the world". Bringing back the titans will save the world? Yeah that's quite a stretch.
Same episode: "If the fleece could bring Thalia back, Kronos would've told me". Crazyyy amount of trust in the "Crooked One".
Then in s2ep8 he is SO confident about Thalia joining him. He literally cannot see (or convinces himself not to see) him being in the wrong and Thalia not joining him. Which given that he's currently attacking a summer camp full of children...
