equally tired of the prevailing opinions on destroya being either "oooh moaning song" or "stop being immature and listen to the lyrics!!!". like. it's a song about anti-consumerism and complicated relationships to god and above all the determination to fight the system alongside the people you do believe in. the sex appeal is part of that, not an afterthought. both (presumably) in battery city and in the real world, sexuality is simultaneously commodified and policed. be available, but not slutty. be perfectly attractive, but still real. use it to get what you want, but only within the existing power structure-- never try to take more. god forbid you don't fit within the framework; anyone deviant or dirty is punished for it. sound familiar?

furthermore, most peoples' work, regardless of whether it's sex work, requires them to sell their bodies and their time to their employer in some way, shape, or form. sexuality and anti-capitalism are more closely linked than they appear. the connections between religion and rebellion and sexuality are more obvious, i think.

in and out of universe, sex sells. no idea if it was mcr's intention (probably not) but using sex appeal to push a song about anti-capitalist rebellion is pretty great. anyways. considering all that, it's ironic that conversation about destroya often gets reduced to either only seeing the sex appeal or being oddly puritanical about it... the point has been missed
