Mobile Crisis Response Teams with licensed clinicians are a real fucking thing. No ambulance. No police. Just a team of 2-4 people who are trained in assessments and deescalation. Most of the time they are the bridge to point of entry to treatment (be it out patient or a hospital) and only in most extreme cases do emergency services get called.

In Georgia, you call GCAL if you want one, not that this fact is common knowledge or widely known.

But it SHOULD be. The structure is literally in place already in place to access this service. The design of how to do this is already in practice and established. Expanding it would not be that hard if the establishment just decided to do it. We don’t need police to handle mental health issues.

Defund the police. Find care for the people.
