“so i heard you have a tumblr”
God bless nurses forever
I love everything about every single one of these
If y’all wanna know the true power of hate, just remember that Alan Turing, the breaker of the enigma code in WWII, was driven to suicide by being forced to undergo chemical castration as a punishment for his homosexuality.
Historians say he saved 14 to 21 million lives.
I’d also like to say in the time we studied WWII in school, the history textbooks never mentioned him. I had never heard of the guy until I watched “The Imitation Game” which I 110% recommend you watch if you haven’t.Alan Turing was a blessing to humanity who saved (once again) 14 to 21 million lives, and he is left out of history because he was gay.
And this is just one example?? So many brilliant and heroic people are left out of history because of their race, their gender, their sexuality, their religion, and it’s just because some bigots in positions of influence get to decide what parts of history are remembered.
This man has had a profound effect on the world, it’s estimated he shortened the war by 2 years, saved countless lives and was the father of modern computing. Without him the world would be a very different, and very dark place.
He wasn’t just chemically castrated. The injections they have him were intended to decrease his libido as part his sentence for “gross indecency”. About 2 years after his trial he was found dead in his apartment next to a half eaten apple that was filled with cyanide (which became the inspiration for the Apple logo).
Turing is one of the most amazing people in all of history. He developed our modern method of computing (see: the Turing Machine) and advanced computer science by immeasurable amounts. And he dies when he was 41. Just imagine if he lived in a world where he was accepted. Imagine the technology we would have today and how many more lives would have been saved. No person deserves what Turing got, especially not someone as brilliant as him.
TEACH. CHILDREN. ABOUT. ALAN. TURING! WHEN THEY LEARN ABOUT WWII, THEY DESERVE TO KNOW ABOUT THE MAN WHO ENDED IT!!!
i think “video games aren’t really the violent child-corrupting threat some parents worry they are” and “certain circles of gamer culture are incredibly toxic and can lead people down dangerous/hateful ideological rabbit holes” are ideas that can absolutely coexist
Artificial violence is not actually a corrupting influence but hanging out with assholes sure is.
the real corruption was the friends we made along the way
those bonding hormones are strong
Yeah so today I learned that a ton of people on the internet or at least on tumblr believe that “office workers” are some pampered and privileged upper class who have no right to complain about their “cozy” indoor computer jobs, like those jobs are all just Dilbert raking in free money to chill in a little chair on the internet. How about y’all look up the physical health problems, let alone mental ones, that come from cubicle work? A 10 hour work day scrambling to crunch numbers, manage accounts, repair code and slam together a college final’s worth of presentable information just to eat for another week is not the same as your 10 hours on discord arguing about the sex lives of cartoon network characters.
Purely anecdotal, but my physical and mental health from working on a manufacturing line was infinitely better for both my physical and mental health than my current desk job. Both had distinct benefits and challenges, and it’s obscenely reductive to say that white collar work is better than blue collar work
Yeah, I worked a bunch of retail jobs, but it was an office job that caused my big mental health crash that stopped me from being able to work for a few years.
And having worked both retail and office jobs, you know what the actual difference was? Whether or not the workplace was unionised.
Also, on the note of “white collar” and “blue collar” work, let’s not forget that a lot of office jobs (including most of the ones I’ve ever had) are “pink collar” work. Stuff that would have been called “secretarial” work in the 90s is still primarily made up of women who are paid less, looked down on, and frequently sexually harassed by the “professionals” they support.
entranced recently not by “i can fix him” or “i can make him worse” but the “something deeply wrong with him and i want to be around as like a spectator when the car crash inevitably happens” dynamic
Hope people who know nothing about death note understand the human boy is the deeply unhinged one in this duo.
In case you don't know, this literally happened in Brazil. One of the first fatal victims of COVID-19 was the maid of an upper-class woman who had just arrived from Italy and knew she had the symptoms.
I’m impressed you know what is not even in there once
you know who’s gay? paul the real estate novelist who never had time for a wife and davey who’s still in the navy and probably will be for life
New headcannon: everyone in that song is gay except the Piano Man who has no idea he’s playing at a gay bar and the staff and regulars have a betting pool on how long he’ll take to finally figure it out. So far John is ahead.
“The manager gives me a smile ‘cause he knows that it’s me they’ve been coming to see” also implies that the Piano Man is possibly an incredibly attractive but oblivious himbo, and if you listen to the rest of it imagining that, this all fits a little too well.
Hot hot hot hot chocolate
HEY WE GOT IT
PLEASE THIS IS THE THIRD TIME I’VE SEEN THIS THIS AFTERNOON.
WHY IS THIS ON MY DASH IT IS JUNE
i saw some comments on tiktok where people were talking bout how they found tumblr too hard to use and part of it being that there was no lack of dates so “what if you reblog or like something from five years ago?!”
buddy… we have posts circulating still from 2011, its literally just how it is
Being on tumblr for years like:
when you’re out at a restaurant or a coffee shop or a target or whatever with your friends and you overhear/eavesdrop the same snippet of some stranger’s conversation, and you look at each other for a second to check that you both heard this stranger say the same weird/funny/baffling thing and just break out in knowing grins and quiet laughter… that’s a love language
I was eating alone at a mexican restaurant once and a group of college kids were chatting over tortilla chips. There was some jabber and then..
“ ..we had to climb over the bob wire!”
“Dude, did you just say ‘bob wire’?”
“Yea man, that spiky shit!”
“You actually think it’s called bob wire? Like fucking Robert wire? You think it’s called Robert wire?”
“Well what the hell do you think it’s called?”
“It’s BARB wire you idiot! Like Barbara wire!”
*the third guy* “Oh my god. You guys. BARBED wire. Because the wire has barbs, it is BARBED.”
“Oohhhhh!”
“Fucking Robert and Barbara wire. Fuck you guys.”
I hope Robert and Barbara Wire are in a happy and committed relationship.
In fairness to King Kong, if I had a tiny adorable primate in my hand I would also be very resistant to someone taking it away from me.
We all assume it was romantic, but maybe when King Kong looked at her he was seeing this:
Something like this really happened a couple of years ago at the Mefou Primate Sanctuary in Cameroon, run by Ape Action Africa (AAA). A western lowland gorilla named Bobo befriended a bushbaby for a couple of hours before releasing it back into the forest.
(Source)
According to AAA’s Facebook post (where you can also find additional photos and video):
Our silverback gorilla Bobo made a surprising new friend this week – a wild bushbaby! Caregivers discovered him cradling the tiny primate during their morning checks, and were amazed to see him handling it with the utmost care – proving that gorillas really are the gentle giants of the forest. Bobo’s group-mates were desperately curious, particularly his favourite female Avishag, but he kept them all at a distance, making sure that no one disturbed his new friend. Bushbabies are usually nocturnal so it is very rare to see one, and even rarer to witness this kind of interaction. The little bushbaby was happy to play in Bobo’s arms, hopping off to explore the grass nearby, before returning to Bobo’s hand. When the game was over, Bobo walked purposefully off on two legs to deliver his friend safely back into the trees.
Incidentally, the western lowland gorilla (which has the best species name of all time: Gorilla gorilla gorilla) is the largest primate in Cameroon, and the bushbabies happen to be the smallest primates in Cameroon.
