ok @ artists i want to know if i’m in the minority here
which part of the drawing process is the worst (not necessarily the hardest just the least enjoyable)
coming up with ideas
rough sketch
final sketch/lineart
lighting
coloring
something else (explain in tags)
i’m not an artist/just show results
astounded by the number of people in the notes going out of their way to hype up coloring (objectively the least fun part of the artistic process) art is about nailing the lineart and then desperately trying not to ruin the vibes for 2-3 more steps before deciding it probably looks finished enough to post
this poll has been really fun to keep an eye on so far! a few takeaways as the op:
people tend to enjoy either coloring OR lineart and dislike the other (the majority of exceptions to this being “i hate every part of drawing” or “i love every part of drawing”)
lineart is the least favorite by a landslide so far, and i’m really curious if that’s a sampling bias thing. for instance would this trend hold true on another website, among professional illustrators only, if the poll was limited to specific age ranges, etc
several lineart apologists have cited a childhood full doodling during class as a possible reason they prefer lining over coloring, which tracks with my personal experience as well! i didn’t have art classes or a ton of access to paints/coloring supplies growing up, and it’s made coloring feel like “that extra thing i have to do after the art’s already done”
lots of write-ins for “finding pose/lighting references” and yeah kinda on me for forgetting that one (btw if this is you check out magicposer dot com)
for some reason there seems to be a lot of overlap between “hates lineart” and “hates coming up with ideas”
considering running a separate poll for color dislikers that differentiates between “choosing colors” and “actually doing the coloring” because it didn’t even occur to me that some people would hate the act of coloring itself
this poll is by design directed mostly at digital artists with a similar process to mine, but a decent number of people have added in the tags that their answers are different for traditional vs digital art, which i thought was pretty interesting
some people get REALLY up in arms over humorous misuse of the word ‘objectively’ jesus christ
I chose final sketch/linear but in truth I just.... took that part out of the process. I didn't want to have to do it so I just don't any more. I sketch and colour and that's all baby
I love lineart what is happening
The deleted scene forehead bonk but make it meme
spiritually related to brett hand even though I never watched the show
My first artwork of 2023, ft. Mateo’s slow progression into a canonical furry, now available on artfight!
More artfight character sheets! Jude has yet another redesign because I can never stop tweaking them apparently
I’m updating some character references because I signed up for artfight! Have an Ezra :3
More OC art for the book I’ve been writing for like four years bc I am ~shameless~
My latest DND character from my upcoming campaign with @pearlll09! Their name is Falros, they're a half-elf ranger who travels with Toby, his badger animal companion, and Chomp, his randomly carnivorous plant pal!
Some more OC revisits! Because I have oc brainrot
Another OC/Style Revisit! Its crazy to see how far I have come. Swipe to see the comparison; I think the old art was from 2017? I'm glad I date my art now :)
seeing men’s tits will not fix me but by god does it feel like it sometimes. does it make me feel alive
MY FIRST BACKGROUND! I loosely followed a tutorial on YouTube to really nail down the perspective. I’m pretty proud of it!!
IT IS TIME
i be like “damn i got a lot of shit to do” and then go lay down for 17 hours
Sometimes I sit and thank God inspiring Louisa May Alcott to write Jo March for us writer girls. I read Little Women when I was eleven and viscerally felt the chaotic, soul deep passion that Jo had for writing and knew it was matched in my own heart.
Finally watched Ghost Files from @wearewatcher and I just had to draw my ghost hunting idiots again
