❝ Then let us find music and we shall dance. ❞
louiseoflorraine:
“What is more pleasant than reading Plato?”
❝ Anything that allows you to feel alive. ❞
herlady-charlotteaglae:
Charlotte watched as the guards argued, feeling all together helpless in her current situation. They spoke of propriety, of women’s sympathies and temperaments, and the whole thing made her want to scream. Finally, she gave up, shaking her head in Colbert’s direction. “Come, it seems to be no use. I don’t have enough energy to stand and fight anymore.”
He did not wish to fight the matter if the woman did not take heed in pushing it further. Instead, he turned on his heel and walked alongside her. ❝ Then allow me to be of some use and escort you to where ever it is you are going? You do not have to be alone during this time. ❞
louiseoflorraine:
“A lot if on my mind and I am simply trying to focus clearly.”
❝ Then may I suggest a different activity? ❞
lady-nathaliemadeleine:
Nathalie couldn’t sleep that night or any other night for that matter. All that she could do was lie in her bed with her eyes wide open, forcing herself to stay awake so that she wouldn’t have to fall asleep while hoping to dream something pleasant. Her body screamed for her to sleep, it yearned for the rest, but her heart couldn’t take it. Each time she tried to close her eyes and sleep fragmented images of the attack leaped into her mind. She was so afraid of the nightmares.
Nathalie walked out onto the balcony and sighed as she sat down on the cold marble floor. At least when she was awake she could keep her reality in check without having to constantly remind herself all is over now and they were safe.
Approaching sounds of footsteps broke her thoughts. She held her breath. ‘’ I see I’m not the only one with insomnia,’’ She said and released her breath in a sigh.
Whenever his mind felt uneasy, there was always absolute guarantee that he would not be graced with sleep that night. That was unless he drank enough alcohol to allow his mind to forget, in which would happen quite often. But the recent attacks perhaps drew him away from drinking so heavily, for one slip of a sword could lose his life - or someone else’s. He wanted his mind to remain sharp... Well, at least for as long as he had the will power.
❝ Sleep evades me most nights, my lady. My mind cannot find rest for it cannot forget what is to come, and what has been. Do you suffer as I? ❞ he hadn’t turned to look upon her until now, the moonlight and the gentle flicker of torches behind them revealing her features.
louiseoflorraine:
“ — Can’t you see I am busy? “
❝ You don’t appear busy, considering how easy it is for you to be drawn away from your book. ❞
princessofpalatine:
‘ No, I suppose we cannot. ‘ And yet Elisabeth felt weak, for all her attempts to be strong. The Dutch had overcome her, and the palace itself, with frightening ease. ‘ But I do not come to speak of respects. I believe I owe you a great debt, sir. ‘
❝ Your Highness. ❞ Colbert instantly lowered himself into a bow and held his position for a few seconds before rising. ❝ You do not owe me a thing, I assure you. I was doing my duty to France, and to you. I did not act in such a way to expect anything in return from you. ❞
lady-nathaliemadeleine:
‘’That’ll be hard. It’d be hard for any of us.’’ With all the horror and death, it’d be hard to just simply move on, nothing would be the same again. Not for her not for anyone. ‘’However, we must now be united as never before, if we wish to survive this.’’
❝ Of course... I do not doubt that it shall be one of the hardest things some of us shall have to do, and I pay the most respect to those who do. But for those people, they need to see strength around them in order for them to grow stronger, do you not think? ❞
ladymadeleine-letellier:
“They behaved as monsters. I would agree that the punishment fit their crimes. And I was on my way to you as well, but this palace is still unfamiliar to me and I was found by the Marquess of Berry. I insisted we part ways and I was able to hide in an empty room until morning. Michael would have been too far for me to find, though I’m sure he was probably out fighting. Were you able to see Father?”
❝ They did... But how do you tame a monster? I dare say this shall only get worse. Antonio D’Auvergne? Was he well to you? I was not... But do not worry, I have seen him since and he is still in one piece. It is your brother that we must worry about, probably out in the battlefields still. ❞
herlady-charlotteaglae:
“Non, non, you need to let me past, I need to find my brother and sister. S’il vous plait, let me through!”
❝ I don’t think this is quite appropriate given the loss and the trauma this palace has been through. You can hardly deny her from seeing her siblings. ❞
victoriemontmorency:
Though exhaustion hung from every limb as a heavy chain might, Victorie could not help but square her shoulders and nod. “And what of you, sir? You are well?” Flicking her eyes over the older man, the blonde gingerly hid a yawn. “If so, I shall happily find those in need of me but I would be remiss to not start immediately and perhaps miss such a man.”
❝ Nothing as severe as others, I assure you. A minor cut and bruise here and there. ❞ he had aided his own wounds, and sought to it that he would not be slowed by them in any manner. ❝ You are a kind woman, I am certain they will be forever grateful. I will lead you there, if you wish? ❞
victoriemontmorency:
“Allow your words to crowd your own mouth, sir, and pray, do not presume to know my own. I did fear you meant to ignore the actions of violence and attempt ignorance, allowing the previous frivolity to become, once more, the mindset of the palace. In fact, your attitude pleases me much. So far that I may ask — how may I assist?”
❝ I would never dare to presume anything of you, my lady. There are other women nursing the men who were injured during the siege, I am sure they would be thankful for any help. Even if you do not have the mind of a physician, I am certain your company and conversation to a man in need of distraction from his pain would be greatly appreciated. ❞
ladymadeleine-letellier:
“They attacked a residential palace in the middle of the night and targeted women and servants. No, they are the weak ones, and cowardly too.”
❝ I dare say I feel no guilt for the men I killed for if I had not, they would have only continued in their inhumane and brutal ways. I could not find you in the siege... I feared something had happened to you and your brother. ❞
victoriemontmorency:
“When things have irrevocably changed?” Victorie ground out, eyes weary and hollow. “What a disservice to the fallen.”
❝ Things are irrevocably changed in the war every day, do you suggest we must sit and sulk, constantly praying for all the fallen rather than continue on as a strong and united country? I do not shame others for continuing their respects, but I have given mine and see no purpose in dragging it out any longer than necessary. Things need to be done within this palace - wounds need to be healed, reinforcements need to be made and I intend to do so. Does that displease you? ❞
❝ I have paid my respects to the dead, and now we must continue on as normal. We cannot show the Dutch that we are weak. ❞
isobelcrequey:
One of the Dutch men quickly grabbed her, her small frame lifted from the ground as her eyes met Colbert’s. They pleaded with him, do something, anything. The man’s gruff arm was wrapped around Isobel’s neck, and she kicked and fought as hard as she could, but it was no use.
Suddenly, he pulled a dagger, and immediately she could feel it pressed to the slight bit of neck that had remained in sight. Her kicking became more frantic now, doing anything and everything to get herself down. Her eyes remained trained on Colbert though, desperate for him to step in.
❝ Trop faible pour combattre un homme. ❞ Colbert spoke with a sigh as he was disappointed he didn’t even get the chance to fight them before they took the easy way out. They were strong enough to cause a siege, but not strong enough to fight for it.
❝ Alright, ❞ he tossed his sword to the floor, kicking it in their direction so he would have no chance of grabbing it even if he wanted to. He held his hands up as a sign of surrender as a precaution in case they didn’t fully understand his English. ❝ Give me the girl, and your blood won’t be spilt here tonight and you can go on your way. ❞ but he had a pistol tucked into his belt, and two small blades that he hoped he would have the chance to use if they decided to give in.
