guys i really dont fuck with the infantilization of the vampire sybelle. yes, armand frequently refers to benji and sybelle as his children in the book, but why do so many readers take that literally? they are vampires!!! everyone is their child.

sybelle is a 25 year old grown adult woman. now im speaking as a neurodivergent woman. i do like having someone to take care of me, even if i wouldn't admit it out loud. someone who is endeared by my passion for my hyperfixation instead of brushing me off as being obsessed or annoying.

now i haven't experienced a trauma as deep as hers, but if I did I expect i would get even more obsessed with my hyperfixations, using them as escapism. I already barely remember to eat, so imagine me if my parents died. this doesnt make me childish.

i am a fully aware human woman and I dont behave like a child, and if a 500 year old vampire came around to help take care of me, id let him. not because im a sweet poor little neurodivergent baby girl who simply cannot fend for herself, but because it is nice to have someone who understands you so deeply and relates to you say, "oh im the same, im going to give them what I never had. I want to nurture you."

obviously neurodivergent women have always been infantilized, and it does extreme harm. it pisses me off when people act like sybelle is this little manic pixie dream girl only meant for armands character development. she is an independent, grown woman who literally goes to watch armand kill people and feed on them. she isn't this innocent little baby he adopted to nurse back to health, in fact, thats more what he is to her and benji.

armand did some fucked up shit but atleast he didnt turn a kid into a vamp and treat her as a kid for her whole immortal life. he treated benji and sybelle as true companions rather than dolls to play with.

sybelle collects swarovski figurines, and whenever armand sees one he buys it for her. one day he finds the perfect crystal piano figure, and he buys it for her. she is so happy when he gives it to her and puts it on her shelf right away! she presses a kiss to his cheek and plays him the appassionata right after to express her gratitude and joy, but armand could already feel the intensity of her emotions. they just get eachother like that <3
