2026 resolutions/affirmations:
-move. out. stay. moved. out. Build a life for yourself.
-write more. Attend poetry readings. Attend workshops.
-keep your wits about you. You're not an idiot. You've never been an idiot. You're the furthest thing from stupid. This is a double edged sword. Learn to wield it. Stop hurting yourself. If you really have to then do it only on thursdays.
-stop smoking. it hurts your wallet (important) and your lungs (less important)
-you're a whole person. You're not an extension of your parents. You're not a child. When you go anywhere people will perceive you as an independent agent and will attribute whatever good or bad behaviors you exhibit to you and you only with little to no consideration as to why or how you're the way that you are. Accept kindness and compliments graciously. Accept criticism only if it's in good faith. You gotta own yourself. You gotta hear what people think of you, process it, and then decide on whether you think it's true or not. Even if you're wrong and they end up being right it doesn't matter. You need to have a stable opinion of yourself. You need a sense of identity.
-Don't hate going to work. Stop any and all negative feelings about working unless they're actually valid. You can hate work if your boss is an asshole, you can hate your work if your coworkers are actually nightmarish people, you can hate work temporarily if you're tired or sick, but anything else is unacceptable. Don't just mope and feel bad that you're doing xyz unskilled labor job. Don't say to yourself in your head that this is boring, that this is stupid, that you should be doing more. Your coworkers are probably gonna be kinda sorta uninteresting npcs. This is okay. Feel neutral about work. Don't think about work before or after work. You're at work only when you're at work. Work =/= life. You need to work. Everybody works. You need money to pay bills and eat. Work = money which we like and need. Therefore work = good, actually unless the above mentioned valid reasons to hate work are present. Then you go find work that's good, actually.
-stop picking at your face.
-stop telling yourself you're ugly eve if it's kinda true. You're kinda chopped and you're allowed to feel neutral about it.
-ideology doesn't take precedence over connection. Learn to get along with people who don't share your exact worldview. Filter shit out. You didn't hear that. This is good for you because you won't be angry all the time. Anger leads to despair leads to depression. We don't like depression. Also you gotta network. You can't make an enemy out of everyone. You might not agree with this person's view on anything but they hold a key to a door you need opened. This sort of pragmatism is a bit cynical and wholly self interested which is exactly what you need in order to survive on your own. This is how people succeed in this system. It's not evil. You're just playing the game.
