Am sewing and getting tired.
Kust forgot about the pedal and genuinely tried to start the machine by looking intensely at the needle because that's what happens just before it starts going normally... Minus me pressing the pedal

Look. The way you ask for a refill?
Sometimes, what you need to do is literally ask for a refill. I know that can be scary and upsetting and requires you to be willing to be vulnerable, but please consider two things:
One: if what you want to do is be able to fill other people's cups, you can't fill from an empty cup. You literally can't do the work if you're emptied out. You need to do this so you can help.
Two: for the people that love you, the people that really matter, you aren't imposing on them by asking for a refill. This is one of the things I really internalized from coming home to Judaism: when someone asks me to help them, they're giving me the opportunity to perform a mitzvah. No matter your belief system or outlook, I think we can probably all agree that being given an opportunity to be more awesome is pretty great.
So ask. Here are a few scripts you can try.
"Hey, I am...
... having a bad day.
... really struggling.
... really hurting because of the state of the world.
... having a hard time focusing on positive things.
... feeling emptied out.
Could you please help me? I could really use...
... some company.
... to hear about something beautiful you saw today.
... to hear some good news.
... to see a picture of your pet.
... to be told something you like about me.
... to be reminded of something I do that you like.
... your silliest new meme.
... to go for a walk with you.
... to hear about your favorite show.
... a hug."
I have genuinely never asked my friends to love me a little bit louder and gotten anything but an outpouring of support.
People love you and want to take care of you. All you have to do is give them an opportunity and maybe tell them the best way to love you right now.
I need to share this.
I need to remind people they too can ask me for a refill.
We are stronger together.

just gonna share some resources on preventing and treating activist burnout (and other trauma) from mutual aid disaster reliefs resource list
weve got 4 long years ahead of us, and after that many more years until the american empire is dead and capitalism is defeated and all are free. we need resilience. we need to learn how to make resistance a regular, sustainable part of our lives. let this radicalize u instead of lead u to despair

This is important. Never stop caring, continue to be ticked off, educate others and do your best to fight against the systems and suffering.
I believe in you, you are all worthy of dignity and respect.
i love every diogenes joke
A lot of times i feel guilty and despair that there is no ethical consumption under capitalism, and im not doing enough on my part. But, part of hopepunk/solarpunk philosophy is that perfection is not the goal. So, i wanted to list out some actions ive taken to help the environment, as a way to remind myself everything im doing to help!!
- learning to sew, cook healthy foods, and mend
- trying not to buy plastic; looking for wood/metal/paper alternatives; looking for 100% cotton clothes
- planting native/desert plants
- advocating for (including spreading joy for) the sonoran desert and its wildlife
- being kind to strangers, even across the political aisle
- working at the library
- using only bar soap in the shower for body and hair; getting rid of skincare products
- doing the konmari method, to help me gain the knowledge and skills to live with only what brings me joy and to consume less.
- planning to go to grad school for a career that serves others
- buying things for others when i can
- making zines
- checking in with friends; supporting family + the household
- learning ways to take care of myself
*doom music starts to play* I actually kindof like scheduling these kinds of appointments now...
but seriously Fellas, don't forget to schedule a pap smear every couple of years just in case. If you still have a cervix you can still get cervical cancer. ilu

The man who won't rest until the Great Pacific Garbage Patch is cleaned up has successfully tested his system for doing so.
““The Great Pacific Garbage Patch can now be cleaned,” announced Dutch entrepreneur Boyan Slat, the wonderkid inventor who’s spent a decade inventing systems for waterborne litter collection.
Recent tests on his Ocean Cleanup rig called System 002, invented to tackle the 1.8 trillion pieces of plastic pollution, were a success, leading Slat to predict that most of the oceanic garbage patches could be removed by 2040.
Intersections of ocean currents have created the massive floating islands of plastic trash—five slow-moving whirlpools that pull litter from thousands of miles away into a single radius.
The largest one sits between California and Hawaii, and 27-year-old Slat has been designing and testing his systems out there, launching from San Francisco since 2013.
GNN has reported on his original design for the floating device, but his engineering team improved upon it. System 002, nicknamed “Jenny,” successfully netted 9,000 kilograms, or around 20,000 pounds in its first trial.
It’s carbon-neutral, able to capture microplastics as small as 1 millimeter in diameter, and was designed to pose absolutely no threat to wildlife thanks to its wide capture area, slow motion, alerts, and camera monitors that allow operators to spy any overly-curious marine life…
Slat estimates ten Jennies could clean half the garbage patch in five years, and if 10 Jennies were deployed to the five major ocean gyres, then 90% of all floating plastic could be removed by 2040.” -via Good News Network, 10/19/21
I like to check up on good news like this that’s over a few years old, and it does look like they’re slowly ramping up - they’re still not at the level of being able to deploy 10 of these Jennies at a time yet, but System 003 is currently deployed in the Pacific Garbage Patch, and they’re pivoting toward river cleanup in developing countries where coastal pollution is a major human health issue. (2024 annual report in the link below)
Cleanup is ongoing in Jamaica, Guatemala, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and others. They’ve been independently audited by a Dutch oversight organization for financial transparency and were found to be in good standing. I’m going to stay optimistic about this!
"Average person discovers infinitely many infinities per year" factoid is actually just a statistical error. The average person discovers 0 infinities per year. Cantor Georg, who introduced the diagonal argument and discovered infinitely many infinities in 1891 alone, is an outlier and cannot be counted.
