If the Avengers need us, we’re here, Captain Marvel.
(Avengers Volume 9 #30)
"Oh, she hasn't. And that's the issue. She doesn't even have her telepathy. I don't want to be all doom and gloom, sweeping in and saying, hey, kid. By the way, you may die and become a conduit for a cosmic force. But don't worry! You are the cosmic force. Can you imagine if anyone had said that to us when we were still trying to figure out our place in the world?" Pausing to suck in a breath, Jean tried to reel it back. "Which brings us back to: I don't want to do this again. But we have to."
"Well then she's got the advantage for once because she has her own experienced self to help guide her. I'm sure it will be very different." he wasn't sure which one of them he was trying to reassure more. "She doesn't need to know everything, Jean." he sat down beside her, smoothing his palm up her back, into her hair and brushing through it with his fingers. "Hey." Scott gently grabbed her chin with his other hand, bringing her face to his. "We'll figure it out like we always do. Together."
"I don't want to do this again." Not that Jean had really been around during the X-Men: Blue fiasco. She had been dead until her younger self had helped her resurrect — which was complicated enough in itself. Now, here they were again. This time it was a different reality (which was a lovely twist) but the facts still remained: a young Jean, a young Scott, a whole lot of inexperience. "I'm fine with the Phoenix," she began. "Better than fine, actually. What I was doing in space? It felt right. It felt good. It was good. This?" She twirled a finger in the air. "Not good." The literal last thing they needed was an inexperienced Jean who didn't have her telepathy, let alone any control over the Phoenix.
Usually it was Scott who was doing the over thinking. Now they were both running all the options and coming to the same grim conclusions. Thankfully, Jeans verbal admission was a nice distraction and it forced him to switch gears. Instead of silently spinning out, he started thinking of ways to ease her.
"Technically we don't know anything about this other Jean. Maybe she hasn't come in contact with the phoenix force yet. "

Cyclops: Why do you think you're in my team?
My boys 😭
"First I'm in a new time period and then I'm in a new reality. I'm nervous to find out what's coming next."
"just when you think you've got one problem under your belt, another one shows up."

"Rather than being so dramatic perhaps you should try to make the most of the situation, Scott. Meet new people, learn new things."
"don't tell me you see a bright side to this, kurt."
"Ever since this whole thing started, all we've been able to do is sit tight while we search for answers. I feel like I'm losing my mind."
