So cool in Ever After High that so many monarchies are canonically matriarchal by nature, because so many stories completely centre on the story of the women and their hardships, shit I’d want to have some control back too after all that lol. Also as a pre-tense I feel like Quindom rolls off the tongue better than Queendom so I’ll write it as that when it comes up.
I remember seeing a world building post ages ago about how the system works and what might’ve been the old name of the domain years ago if I find it again I’ll link it here.
Here’s my take: the only royal family in the evil queens domain is quite literally the Queen family, they make their first born daughters their heirs to both destiny and ruling the kingdom. Because in the Snow White story, the Evil Queen marries Snow Whites father and would logically become Queen of the White Quindom for a time, meaning she usually doesn’t cause that same tyranny over in her own quindom.
This does make some lick of sense in the long run because when each Evil Queen has done her duty in poisoning Snow White and securing the princess’ place as future queen, you’d think after being ‘punished’ she gets the reward of returning to her own subjects to rule over, no? Because Raven’s mother is an outlier, other queens haven’t been punished like her because they followed the story and that was that. She tried to leave her story and take others over, of course she’s contained to the mirror realm.
In my logic, the Huntsman from the original story and following were from the Evil Quindom and followed her to the White Quindom as a faithful servant to do her bidding, and what attracts a huntsman to a new area on their own?
Game.
My thoughts are the Evil Quindom is rife with wildlife and hunting game, thus creating a trade surplus of meats and fur hides to sell elsewhere like winter regions on Ever After. I also like to think apple trees have always been more populous in the Evil Quindom and the first Queen simply brought her favourite plants with her.
Now this is where the talk of the old post comes along because I remember they spoke of trying to name Raven’s dad and something about Good Fellow developed into Fallow like another name for deer, hence my thinking hunting game is large and wide in the domain.
My thoughts on the domains names is that they all used to have their own original names before they were forcibly changed to fit the storybooks and box different king and quindoms into these roles. For now I’m playing with Fallolandt as a nod to the German influences on a lot of Grimm Tales.
I picture the Evil Quindom is a southern domain with wonderful access to ports and the ocean, meaning great fish trade and transport before trains became a thing in their world. All of this to say that the Evil Quindom kinda rocks commerce wise in order to please the Evil Queens for becoming hated by the populace even though they just did their jobs. They would’ve have to if the White Quindom rules state that if a Snow White fails to complete her story she cannot become Queen. Not their fault they just default to the basic heir system.
Also, purple pigment.
It’s basically THEE colour of the evil queen, and that shits expensive as all get out, which makes me think purple pigment is far more common in their area and the royal family flaunts it at the other domains.
The purple also makes me think the Evil Quindom and the Swan Kingdom are neighbouring countries.
The Good King system:
My personal headcanon is that there actually isn’t a ‘good king’ lineage, they’re a fellowship that provides trained young men for choosing from their Evil Queen when she’s of the age to choose one, all for the purpose of making the next generation and winning over more of their domain. Usually they’re of some type of nobility either inside the Quindom or outside of it. However, it’s completely the choice of the Queen and she has the option to choose her hearts desire and make him her consort, which they just call king for brevity. My thoughts are Ravens father was a hearts desire choice, which confuses him as he was one: from a different domain (the Swan Kingdom), and two: she didn’t actually treat him all that well, him acting as regent for Raven wasn’t in his cards at all, but he’s doing well all things considered!
I feel a complaint about marian being the damsel in distress class teacher in Ever After High incoming... because WTF WHY HER???? SHES THE LAST ONE WHO SHOULD BE TEACHING THAT CLASS?????
Well, it's explained in the books - Damsel in Distress's old teacher was someone else, and Marian was hired by the school as a substitute. Although she presents herself as a formal lady in front of Grimm, in her lessons she actually teaches the girls how to save themselves! Not only that, but she's famous on Ever After for being a heroine, and they even wrote a book about her adventures.
