It was tempting to reveal all, but, as I think you will agree, for you, it will be much more enjoyable, this path of discovery. Yes. It... It is.

I’m LITERALLY going insane
this video is so accurate that im having flashbacks to memories of movies that never existed
Everyone in the notes not realizing is making me feel insane. Guys - this entire TikTok is a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fanfiction. The OP of this post (as in the person who uploaded this to Tumblr) has a TMNT profile picture. I’ve never seen a more expertly crafted video.
All of the names are names of TMNT characters. They’re all dressed like their TMNT counterparts too, to the point where it feels like actually I’m looking at human designs for all the turtles. (The exception to this is Raph, or ‘Ralph’, but that makes sense considering that little reveal about him at the end). “Wait... this guy knows school” is a reference to the fact they’re all mutant turtles that never went to public school. But that’s not the only thing, because it so painfully obvious that the creator of this TikTok watched the 2012 cartoon specifically.
It’s completely insane. They all act like and interact with each other exactly like how they do in the ‘12 cartoon. It’s every little detail. Casey being a teenage delinquent. Donnie’s skepticism of Casey. The way everyone ELSE operates around Casey. It’s everything. I keep noticing new things every time I watch this video. Mikey’s the most obvious example of this, but I think the creator might be changing the way he talks to reflect Leo’s voice actor(s) too.
This entire video is a Spy AU fanfiction of TMNT 2012 with ridiculously high production quality. It fits so perfectly that it literally shouldn’t be able to be anything else. And YET - it’s so expertly crafted so as to make it indiscernible from any other stock Disney spy movie. This is so impressive it borders on manic.
I’m sure someone else has already pointed this out, but people. The guy who made the TikTok has EVERYONE FOOLED AND IT’S DRIVING ME UP!! THE!! WALL!!!!
Washington Post is paywalling the article but it looks like Taylor Farms — a consumer bagged salad brand that also supplies produce to grocers and fast food chains like Taco Bell, Walmart, McDonald's, Chipotle, Burger King, KFC, and Meijer —may be at least one of the sources of the current cyclosporiasis outbreak.
Taylor makes bagged greens, salad kits, chopped salads, the works. Keep avoiding supermarket greens, but keep an especially close eye out for this brand/supplier. The above list of grocers and fast food chains is NOT exhaustive, so please continue getting lettuce and other raw produce taken off your burgers, sandwiches, etc.
Hamlet adaptation where Hamlet is a vlogger and all his soliloquies are breakdowns he uploads to YouTube
… I am unironically here for this
this is the funniest thing I’ve ever seen in my life
This is - legitimately - my favourite delivery of Shakespeare I have EVER seen (and I have seen some good-ass productions yo, in the Globe Theatre itself even). Like seriously, even though the words are unchanged, he’s stripped away ALL of the archaic pretense and assumed grandeur of ~presenting the bard~ that makes even the most wildly talented of actors and innovative of productions inherently inaccessible to a modern audience. Like, they’re still great, they can still communicate the message and (some) of the nuance, but they’re still always a step removed from being identifiable to any viewer’s lived experience. They’re still always reciting 15th century poetry. But this guy? This guy is like, screw iambic pentameter, to hell with being precious about the material, HOW WOULD AN ACTUAL PERSON SAY THIS SHIT?
Like this. And it’s beautiful. It’s beautiful to hear a soliloquy I loved so much already, and have it come to life in a way it never, ever, did before. I feel like I grasp his motivations, his twists and turns, no longer on an academic level but on a visceral, instinctive one. Because he’s presenting his mental and emotional journey in a way that speaks honestly, like a real person.
So yeah, this shit post? I love it. Deeply and sincerely.
A post about this went round recently, and I’m delighted to announce she’s since come out as trans and goes by Jasmine 🏳️⚧️
Actor and Writer
There’s a whole series of the Hamlet videos on her YouTube, as well as a bunch of other films she’s made
Syd protects her heart. She also doesn’t want to be a burden. We’ve discussed here how she’s likely a high functioning and high masking person in high functioning-survival mode.
Syd holds her deepest feelings and emotions close.
So of course she’s never told anyone, not even Carmy, exactly how much a certain chef means to her.
Syd’s lie in 5x04 about the grapefruit scallop dish was done on purpose, just like her lie in 1x01 about coming to The Beef every Sunday with her dad. Both lies serve the same function: to obscure her naked heart just enough from view of the one person she wants most to see it, to see her.
She does this so that she can withdraw and protect herself if needed.
It didn’t make sense for us to get the full blood orange hamachi reveal in S5 bc of how rushed the context of that season was. But we got a very natural beginning to that conversation.
A conversation where, maybe, eventually, Carmy will pull Syd up after a particularly busy future service. He’ll touch her back and ask if they can talk in the office. She’ll say sure and follow him, completely unaware, looking down at the draft menu on her clipboard while she walks. He’ll ask her to sit down and he’ll sit across from her, gently taking the clipboard from her hands and setting it on the table.
Carmy will ask Syd if he was working at Empire when she had her first-best bite. She’ll say yes, her eyes wide and dark. Carmy will tell her they never served grapefruit and scallop while he was there. Syd will smile tight and say something like, it might have been something similar. There was citrus and the protein was a fish.
(She knows exactly what the dish was but he’s calling her out and she still has too much pride to admit to lying, because what good reason can she give for doing so, other than protecting her heart?)
She takes out her phone and shows him the photo she took of the dish that stole her breath away. She’ll say oh, I remember now. It was blood orange and paupiette of hamachi. Best meal of my life.
And she’ll look up to see Carmy’s eyes glazed and smiling. A tear might escape his right eye.
Carm? What’s the matter?
Nothing. I’m good. I’m good. We- We’re good.
Because of course they are. Syd has shown him her heart and she has seen his. And neither of them is going anywhere.
Thank you for taking me on that journey with you. I needed it so badly.
Season 5 seemed more about moving Carmy and Sydney into a "good place," cause they had been distancing themselves from each other since season 2, and season 4 even ended in some sort of breakup. So they're moving into a place of real trust, which was definitely necessary for either of them to open up about the true meaning of the hamachi dish and how Syd is the only one destined to have it.
But what I do like about not knowing what Carmy thinks of this, how much he guessed or interpreted, how he feels about it even, is that it puts the ball in his court. If there ever is a love confession related to this dish, it would come from Carmen first, cause he is the one who gets to decide now who he gives his heart to. Once it was fate; now it is his will that would tie him to Syd forever.
