simon & grace: absolute besties. only a little (a lot) codependent but neither of them realize it. both very flawed individuals that compliment eachother beautifully. simon is grace's ride or die and grace cares about simon perhaps a little more than himself. do not separate or else the world will explode

Eridian Grace, as in culturally Eridian, not the species Eridian, is so important to me.
Grace who does jazz hands and taps when he's asking a question and says some words three times like Rocky. Grace who makes chirps and trilling noises when he's happy.
Grace who starts thinking and dreaming in Eridian, who sometimes has dreams that are just sound, no visual. (Grace who, if he ever goes back to Earth for whatever reason after years on Erid, forgets some words in English and speaks in the sentence structure of Eridian because he has to translate from Eridian to English when he speaks outloud).
Grace who does scarification (even if Rocky protests at first) - I've read some fics where he does the Voyager pulsar map, or dots and lines showing his route from Sol, to Tau Ceti, turning around towards Sol, and then the line going all the way back to Erid. Even though he already has the scars from Rocky saving him, maybe Rocky's family crest. A scar showing his rank as Captain of the Hail Mary - maybe something to represent her, too.
Grace who wears Eridian gems, as earrings, in a chain for his glasses, in strings draped over him that clink together when he walks - the most important ones, like the earrings he wears all the time, the color of the blueish-green gems (or spots?) in/on Rocky's carapace.
Grace who wears a bracelet on each arm that have ribbed marks like on Rocky's arm so he can properly say goodbye (not something he had to do, but something that felt right to do, something that made him feel more like himself), sound included.
Grace who considers himself an Eridian!! Grace who IS an Eridian!!

THE BUTCHER (AGES 16-21) - Eden starts struggling about 10 years after The Quiet Rapture. It is a very agriculture-heavy society and once soil starts losing their nutrients, they're kinda fucked. With food and supplies getting scarce and trading with the COI being off-limits, they turn to putting a sort-of task force together to steal from the COI
Simon was a quiet, shy kid growing up. Losing his parents during the Rapture made everything feel out of control as he was raised by who would later be known as The Father with other orphans on Eden. He very quickly realized the only way he would be listened to/have his needs met is if he made people listen (a lot of what happened to him immediately after the rapture might be repressed to hell and back. not a fun time). This made for a very careless teenager and a very angry young adult.
Simon is aggressive, egotistical, and hard to work with---but he follows orders. He is often cruel just for the sake of being cruel, but he's the best guy they have on the team. The only one who gets some sick satisfaction out of what he does. He gets results and gets out of shitty situations quick. Not the most graceful pilot, but he's fast and he plays dirty.
The 9 day battle on Filament Station happens because of a job gone wrong, and ends with an IED of Simon's dropped off too close to the station's reactor. Filament Station is blown to pieces and Simon runs from the explosion. The explosion caused 62 COI casualities and a large amount of Edenites (i saw Locke use this term and im stealing it love u Locke) arrested. Simon is identified as the main cause for the explosion, found, and arrested (heres the mugshots/what he was charged with)
THE CONVICT (POST-FILAMENT, AGES 21-25) - so as it turns out whenever you blow up one of like 4 or 5 existing space stations, kill about an eighth of the living population of human beings in the cosmos, and doom the cult you grew up in to starvation---people aren't very happy with you on either side. Simon Does Not Have a Fun Time in prison, especially in his early days. Literally the only good thing he's got going for him is the fact that he's not on the cusp of starving anymore bc the COI (mostly consisting of Earth-born military and scientists while Eden is a lot of Martian Botanists/Astronomers) knows how to synthesize enough food to get everyone at the very least 1 meal a day.
He's given the worst cell, the shittiest supplies, and the worst Convict Realization work. His tattoo is burned off, his head is shaved, and he gets into ugly fights nearly on the weekly. Attempts to break out 10 times to no avail. He spends a lot of his time thinking, cycling through periods of intense anger and grief, and eventually kicks all the beliefs drilled into his head by The Father of Eden. The tree wouldn't have wanted him, anyway. Its not like him or any of the Brothers he worked with were particularly pure.
THE CONVICT (PRE-LUNG, AGES 25-36) -

Simon does find SOME peace living within Convict Realization eventually. After a while the harassment calms down. His stuff is still stolen or messed with occasionally, and every once in a while he'll come across a guard that really pisses him off---but for the most part he's just shunned. The COI finds he's pretty good as engineering work, repair jobs and whatnot, so they focus on milking him for whatever he's worth. He's happy to have a distraction that leaves him tired enough at the end of the day to pass the fuck out without issues.
Still, they have yet to give him a release date. He's stopped trying to force one from them. A lot of his time is spent just simply going through the motions until Ava comes to him with an offer he can't refuse...
The idea of “Colt got the voicemail of Ryland being held down and drugged and that’s the last thing he ever heard from his brother” gets even better when you bring those implications into Eva Stratt’s trial.
She knows the charges that will be brought against her. She knows the project has been meticulously documented from conception and she’s already prepared and steeled herself for every email, invoice, and bugged conversation that will be shown before the jury, including what went down in her office before Ryland ran.
But then the prosecution brings in Colt as a surprise witness with new evidence. And it’s only then in that courtroom that Eva actually hears Ryland’s voice breaking as he begs for his life. And the last shred of comfortable distance she could possibly put between herself and Ryland Grace’s execution is shattering while the man with his face is staring back at her.
