Medication and night night for my little graybie (gray baby)
So small, so precious, with the tiny beans!
it came to my realization that 99% of my fandom related headaches would be cured if everyone understood this
Its like discussing Don Quixote. One person might dicsus the text directly and talk about how chivalric tales are condemned because they drive Alonso Quixano mad. (That's the canon.) Another person might say that Don Quixote sought out his fanciful battles because the life of a landlord was so tragically dull and he wanted to bring some honor back to the country. (That's Level 1 or maybe even level 2 Headcanon.) Both are ways of reading that can lead to interesting conversations, but you may need to have everyone sort out where they are coming from first.
Some guy with a Warhammer pfp and blog full of Fortnite clips might say that its important to fight windmills because they're technoheresy, and Quixote only went crazy because he didn't believe in the God Emperor enough to protect him from Chaos. (That's somewhere between Level 4 Headcanon and just plain gibberish.) This is a wild ass thing to drop in the middle of a conversation, and is generally someone having a conversation with themselves while everyone else has too watch. It can be fine in the context of people who are having a conversation about a crossover between a classic novel and Warhammer 40k (these can sometimes be even better conversations than the more conventional ones), but springing it on total strangers derails things for everyone.
So if you're planning on having fandom conversations, especially ones online or in public with strangers, keep in mind what level of canon or head canon you are using and make allowances so everyone can understand where people are coming from.

Tumblr's algorithm: Here is one post we have decided you WILL like. We are going to keep bringing it up, forever.
it's extremely funny reading historical accounts of Spontaneous Human Combustion because it follows the normal historical trend of other 1800s paranormal phenomena where it stopped happening as much right around the time cameras were invented and stopped happening entirely when everyone started carrying mini cameras in their pockets, but unlike most others of its ilk, it was effectively replaced by this mysterious phenomena where alocoholics would spill liqour on themselves and then fall asleep smoking a cigarette and turn into a fireball. nobody knows if these two things are related
I had a realization about leftwing infighting today. In the US black people have spent 250 years fighting for equality and a seat at the table. They managed to get one black man in as President. Then we immediately had a wave of white people come in and declare that ever sitting at the table makes you complicit in everything the US has ever done wrong.
The realization is that for many leftists this a new fight that they're starting. But for minorities this is just another round of the same battle they've inherited from generations of people who have been fighting. From the newly minted leftist side it might look like they're the first ones to have the courage to really stand up and fight back against the evils of the world, but from the side of experienced activists from oppressed communities it looks like a bunch of children with matches yelling burn it all down next to everything they've built.
the second 'o' in "zoologist" is putting in heavy duty work. girl is working two jobs
Huge fuckoff Creatures are fine, but I love it when tabletop RPGs do the "monstrous animal" thing and it's still the size of a regular animal. Like, forget about making it universally hostile – can you imagine the damage a bulletproof seagull that's inexplicably as strong as a bear could do just doing regular seagull stuff?
Everyone wants to be an adventurer until the laser moles show up.
actual image I have just seen on an actual website attempting to sell travel packages. welcome to our plane where there's no aisle so you have to climb over seats if you're not in the first row. the pilot has no legs and is joined to one of the passengers at the wrist.
First time I've seen a picture in 0.324 point perspective. The seats are somehow straight and yet not aligned, people's heads are angled from their bodies in a way that requires severing ligaments, and the walls line up in a way that has the seats on one side sticking through the windows.
You get transported into the universe of the last media you consumed. How are you doing?
This is better than my real life
I'm doing well
I'm doing fine
I'm not having a good time
I'm absolutely cooked
There is nothing different about this universe and my own
My special interest is Warhammer 40,000...
Oh fuck im in stardust memory!
I'm in a fairly decent small town with above average standards of living! The only problem is that some people use British spelling and pronunciation for American brands. It's absolutely uninhabitable.
Your favorite corporation will run their entire staff through a woodchipper tommorow if it keeps them from forming a union. Not because the management or even executives are evil, but because the entire American legal system has been warped around the idea of fiduciary responsibility being the same as quarterly earnings that keep a high stockprice. So even the most progressive and woke corporation is one board meeting or shareholder call away from sending the Pinkertons to shoot protesters.
That's why its so important to support unions even when their at businesses that make the products or brands you love.
Even my rural town in New Mexico didn't have people doing walk-in applications in 2006.
Sorry, Millennials, but recent paleontologist findings and hyolaryngeal apparatus reconstructions no longer support the hypothesis that "rawr" means "I love you" in dinosaur.
I made you a bibliography but I eated it :(
When you're shitposting is in proper MLA format.
This is what's so fucked up about "nothing that requires the labor of others is a human right".
The labor is already being done under capitalism. The laborers are already being underpaid under capitalism.
When you propose removing the greedy profiteers and paying the workers a reasonable wage, people call that "slavery" while they have no problem with the current system.
They're not even trying to make sense.
why the marauder so BIG
Because PGI does not understand scale.
the scale in mechwarrior 5 is all over the place. however. inside your ship, where you can walk around the feet of your mechs and look up at them. fuckin gorgeous. they do understand scale. or at least, some of them do. just not whoever is in charge of making maps.
The mechs are unfortunately very out of scale even in the hangar. Proportionally and in terms of overall size
The largest (Conventional) 'mechs are approximately 14 meters tall. A utility pole is approximately 12 meters tall. Battletech is the game of big stompy robots, not mechanical kaiju.
It consumes things that were once noble, turns them into forms less beautiful yet more compliant, and unleashes those twisted things back onto the world to undermine trust and promote fear. It's creation comes from workshops which foul the land and poison the water, and many distant lands have been enslaved by tyrants to fuel them. And they have poured much of their power into this tool with the intent of dominating everyone else, yet their reliance on it is also what can topple them.
I think a major challenge facing the progressive movement in the US is that our most prominent voices are critics. We're extremely good at saying when something is bad, which is useful for pointing out the many problems in the world as it is. But when it comes time to fix those problems, we don't have nearly as many people talking about how to do that.
The fact that the biggest names in online "leftist" spaces are streamers and content creators who focus on critiques of the system instead of promoting issues is a part of why progressives aren't able to make much progress. There's never anything to move toward, never any positive action to be taken, and never anything that actually changes things on the ground. There might be the occasional awareness statement about a group taking action, or maybe a fundraiser for a cause. But compared to right-wing creators constantly pushing people toward a particular agenda, informing people about legislation, and coordinating campaigning activities, the left as a whole is pretty ineffective at achieving their goals.
In the spirit of doing more than being a critic, I'll remind you that the US has some of the lowest election turnouts of any democracy. Much of the current political crisis is tied to how disengaged the political elites have become from the electorate. So if you're eligible to vote in the US, you should go to vote.org and make sure you are registered. In many states (including mine) The total votes for the 2024 election were less than half the eligible population, which means its very possible to swing things in November.
