Awarded by the UK and certain Commonwealth Countries to those who have served their country in a non-military or diplomatic capacity. One notable recipient of the CMG is the actor Daniel Craig, and the most famous fictional recipient of the CMG was Mr Craig's Alta-ego Lt Cdr James Bond CMG RNVR

The end of an era..
It was a shame that Canada stopped using the defaced Blue & Red ensigns. Many people don't realise that it was actually the Blue Ensign that was the actual national Flag, or Jack as Navy types call it, and the Red was a civil ensign.
The new Maple-leaf Flag became an icon, but I can't help wondering just how much public support the new flag had when it was adopted.
I always enjoy the irony, however, of seeing the new flag being hoisted to the tune of 'The Maple-leaf Forever' when I remember that the song is actually about 'planting firm Britannia's Flag on Canada's fair domain!'.

Never ask a man if he is from Yorkshire! If he is, trust me, he will have told you already, and if he isn't then there is no need to humiliate the poor man!
And don't be fooled by any poor imitations of the true northerner from obscure places like Liverpool or, even worse, that barren featureless wasteland they call Lancashire!
WHO HE? Does anyone know who this young man, an officer cadet at Sandhurst, is? His medal group is puzzling me.
The photo was taken after 2023, because he wears the 2023 Coronation Medal. He appears to be in his mid twenties, but the earliest of his medals is the 2002 Golden Jubilee Medal, issued of 21 years before his most recent medal. He must have been a very young boy in 2002 and at least a teenager when he received the 2012 Diamond Jubilee Medal. BUT He is certainly no 'Walter Mitty' impersonator type, the RSM would never have allowed him on to parade.
There are ways in which youngsters are awarded such medals. For example, he might have been a page of honour, a choir boy who took part in jubilee celebrations, and his military career might have begun in the reserves as early as when he was 17. My best guess is that he is related to the Royal Family and received the medals by virtue of a position in the line of succession to the throne, like the Prince William who wears the same group.
Anyone any ideas?
Yes, I was more than on to something. this young officer of the Blues & Royals is Alexander Ogilvy, the grandson of Princess Alexandra of Kent. He is currently 60th in line of succession to the throne.

Every major civilisation in history fought to hold on to their imperial empire, everyone that is except the British. The British would fight wars in Africa, Malaya and the Middle East to ensure that when their empire came to an end the Commonwealth would consist of seventy of the worlds most stable democracies. This would ensure that the civilisation of the empire would ensure, namely, parliamentary democracy, the rule of Common Law, modern western industrialised economics, free trade and the English Language.

Amazingly this is just a few days after the Coronation, such that you can see that his Coronation medal has not yet been mounted into his group. It also shows him in his uniform of the rank of Field Marshal (note the baton in his right hand). This predates his appointment as an honorary Colonel in the brigade of Guards, which is the uniform we were more accustomed to seeing him at the Sovereign's Birthday Parade.
London's last surviving Police Box is situated at Earl's Court.
Police Boxes were installed my the Metropolitan Police in 1929. They had a phone behind a hatch which could be used by the public to contact the police. The interior was used as a miniature police station, where officers on the beat could take a rest-break, complete written reports and occasionally detain prisoners.
If you see something similar at any other location... it is probably my TARDIS!

Well, I never knew you'd been to the village where I grew up, Almondbury, near Huddersfield in Yorkshire. Perhaps you were the one who took it away and had it repaired in 2017. I suspect, however, we have Yorkshire's own Dr Who, Jodie Whittaker to thank. She became the Doctor in the same year and is from Skelmanthorpe, just a couple of villages up the road! In any event, Almondbury's TARDIS is now a listed building and there to stay.

The three “lions” of England were originally called leopards.
I don’t speak German, but "goldene Leoparden" clearly means golden leopards — and historically, the Germans are not wrong.
The royal arms of England enter documented use in 1198, with the second great seal of Richard I. From the very beginning, the animals are shown passant guardant.
And this is the key point: in medieval heraldic language, especially in French usage, a feline shown passant and facing the viewer was called a leopard. Not zoologically — heraldically.
So they were not a different animal. They were the same heraldic figure, named according to posture.
Later English tradition preferred the term lion — stronger, clearer, more fitting for a great kingdom, especially as the leopard sometimes carried ambiguous connotations.
But England’s greatness needs no defence. Calling them leopards is not an insult. It’s history.
