Lecture Tips
So today I went to a lecture with a couple of friends who were going to the lectures for the first time since they enrolled at uni, and they found it pretty overwhelming, so here is my personal way of actually getting the most out of my lectures, and not getting sore hands.
1. Preparation- For me, my university sets out the content that will be covered for the week and has content online so I can study it. From this I make my notes before my lecture, and if I know about what the lecturer is covering, I donât need to write it down again
2. Print out lecture notes- I often see slides on a lecture where spots need to be filled in, or things need to be labelled, it means much less writing if you donât have to write the diagrams, tables or sentences you already have printed out.
3. Donât write the details- even though you went through the content beforehand, you still may find that the lecturer is covering something you havenât got in your notes, and you may feel the urge to write everything theyâre saying down. Instead of writing down everything that they say, I just add it to a list of topics I need to study, for example, this week we studied the pelvis, and I when the lecturer was talking about movement of the pelvis, I realised I didnât know anything about it, so I quickly added the title âpelvic movementsâ on my list of things to learn so I could study it later, and that way I was also able to listen to and understand what the lecturer was saying, instead of listening to copy words.
4. Look for clues- Some lecturers will often share hints about what you will be assessed on. Whether itâs them literally stating that something is âimportantâ, âmight be on the quizâ (*wink wink) or just spending a lot of time on a certain topic, you will want to note what these topics are. Just as I do with my list of things I need to learn, I can list these things so I can make sure that I put an emphasis on studying these things when it comes to assessment time.
5. The internet is useful- My university allows lectures to be recorded, so if you want to rewatch something the lecturer says, you can watch the recording and take notes then, where you can pause the lecure when you need.
These tips should help you feel a bit more confident going to a lecture. For me, I do not feel like a class full of taking notes is helpful, so this is my way of connecting with the lecturer and the material they are presenting

Simply place your left knee on the ground and your hand on you hips or right thigh. .

Working on those backbends like thereâs no tomorrow đ . . . . So happy to be able to move freely without pain. It really is a luxury once you have really know how mobility killing pain feels like. There was a time where getting into bed meant I would have to get OUT of it as well, and that was nothing fun.. It was impossible to move without being flooded with nauseating back/hip pain⌠I learned a lot through my immobile periods, and am truly thankful to be able to listen to my body and heal on my own. Just another beach yoga handstand. Or so it seems. Handstand was the most impossible of all the poses when I first started practicing. Now every handstand represents my journey, the strength I found within myself along the way. _ While not everyone needs to learn to handstand, if you want to, if your soul itches for it, then just try. The experience of learning will make you stronger. But donât expect it to be easy. It may take you 1,000 tries before it starts to make sense. So before you begin anything ask yourself if youâre willing to fail at least 1,000 times and pick yourself back up each and every single time. Every time I have fallen out a handstand I have picked myself up with just that little bit more strength and humility. Sometimes things take time. You can rush the journey of strength. Your mind and body need to develop and evolve. _ Learning good technique is like getting a good education, you set yourself up for success. Donât wait for anyone to knock on your door with a delivery of your dreams. Put in the work, slowly, methodically, and humbly. Sprinkle in just enough faith and grace to soften the hard edges. _ Handstand is like anything else. If you want it, youâll have to work for it.
