your hair was straight. brown eyeshadow dusted your eyelids and your eyeliner made your eyes look even more fierce. you strapped on black heels, grabbed your coat and headed outside to catch your uber to head out. 

you were attending a birthday party for one of your closest friends. choi san. deep down, though, you harbored feelings of more than friendship for him. you weren’t the best at hiding it either. that’s why tonight you opted for an outfit a little outside your comfort zone hoping to catch his attention. call it shallow if you will, but you knew san’s favorite color was red and he always liked it when you straightened your hair. 

you arrived at san’s house and you saw other cars in his driveway and parked around his house already. you took a deep breath as you walked towards the house, seeing it already halfway open. you stepped in and you saw the flash of multicolored LED lights while you heard the mix of voices overlapping over the loud music.

this was the first time the car ride was ever this quiet. the tension, unbearable, but neither of you wanting to be the one to cut through it first. you let your minds wander as the soft pitter patter of rain hit the car letting the noise become background music. you didn’t know what you did wrong. it’s not like you were trying to flirt with yeosang in front of him. you didn’t even know what yeosang’s intentions were. in your eyes he was a friend who needed comfort, and what better way to comfort someone than with a hug?

you’re snapped out of your thoughts when mingi pulls into a parking lot. it was already late so there was barely anyone around as the rain kept hitting the car. he put the car in park and turned off the engine. the atmosphere was deadly. you could tell mingi was trying to figure out how to start a conversation, but you couldn’t bear to wait much longer.

yunho, you know i need the money to send to my parents back home. i can’t bear to miss a day, that’s like $75 bucks missing.

and i told you i’d help you with the money. it’s really not a big deal

you loved the tall giant and his kind heart, but now was not the time for your best friend to get on your nerves. your parents were struggling with money back home so you moved in with yunho to be closer to the city and to be able to find work. you’d known yunho through some classes in college. he lived off campus and since you decided to one day so eagerly confide in him about your situation, he basically demanded that you lived with him. he only saw you as someone worth taking care of and protecting. you didn’t mind when he went out on dates or received weird texts and dms from other girls, but you’d be lying to yourself if you didn’t admit that you thought he’d be a good boyfriend.

yunho looked down at your small figure on the verge of tears if he didn’t give you your shoes so you could head out for work. huffing in annoyance he lowered his arms giving you the shoes.

fine, but after work you come straight home. i’ll make sure to make you dinner so you don’t go to sleep hungry at least. and i will stay up so as soon as you eat you’re off to bed. understood?

you practically ripped the shoes out of his hands.

you slip your feet into the shoes so your heels crush the backs of your sneakers. you grab your keys off the counter and pull your bookbag over your shoulder. you smile at yunho grab his neck for something that was either a chokehold or a hug. without thinking you kiss his cheek and run out the door practically yelling goodbye. 

as you leave, yunho grabs his face. was that a…no there’s no way…no that was definitely a kiss. he stared at the door trying to process what happened. yunho always saw you as someone to care for and look after because he knew you couldn’t do it yourself. he turns around to walk to his room and chuckles under his breath. something about you kissing his cheek in a rush to go to work allowed his mind to wander. what if we got married and she was always in a rush to work in the mornings and i wouldn’t give her her stuff until she kissed me. he felt like a schoolgirl as his face heated up. yunho knew that he loved you platonically, but he would most certainly be lying to himself if he didn’t admit that he thought you’d be a good girlfriend.

you stared at the grinning boy in front of you. he was speaking to you about something, but you weren’t really sure what. in hindsight you weren’t really concerned about what he was saying. you were consumed in your own thoughts.

you stood at the conveyer belt after a 12 hour flight, clearly exhausted as the jet lag was starting to hit you. you were finally home after winter break, but you felt as if you needed a vacation from your vacation. you were half awake standing there trying not to look dead to the people around you as you waited for your luggage. in hindsight you were trying to find yours but all you could see was rectangular blobs of color. luckily for you though, you had a hot pink luggage (courtesy of your little sister) with a rilakkuma plushie attached as your tag in case someone else had an obscenely pink luggage. 

your eyes widen as you see a hot pink blob heading your way with some light brown thing dangling on the side which you assumed was the small bear. as it nears you on the conveyer belt, you grab it with two hands and grunt to lift it off. man, this thing is heavy. and, no one’s gonna help me? jerks. you manage to wriggle the luggage off the belt and start walking towards the airport exit. as you step into the brisk air to hail a taxi home, you see another pink blob. two? pink blobs? you barely had any chance to asses the situation as your taxi arrived in front of you. you sighed in relief as you sat in the back of the warm car and allowed yourself to take a short nap. 

after a short while, you head up towards your apartment wondering why exactly you packed so much for winter break. it was only a week. you hauled your bags up 2 flights of stars and practically fell face forward as you unlocked the door. you removed your coat and shoes and headed to your room to at least set the luggage in there when you looked at the bear hanging from your bag.

the feeling you get when you leave a conversation and think of all the things you should have said

it was the third time today you’d felt a paper ball hit your head in the middle of math class. it took everything in you not to take it and throw it back to the person it was clearly coming from. park seonghwa. it’s been a whole year. 365 days. 525,600 minutes. of absolute, non-stop, annoyances from him. he never paid attention in class, never handed in homework, and got into more fights than you could count on your hands. all the characteristics of a brooding “bad boy.” (you’re pretty sure you saw him help a little girl who was lost once, but you’ll take that secret with you to the grave.)

you could never figure out why he chose you of all people to harass daily. at one point you actually felt bad for him because people were too afraid to talk to him, but once he tripped you in the middle of the hallway, any solemn feelings you had towards him turned into hatred.

luckily for you, you knew the bad boy would never stay after the bell rang, always being the last one in the classroom and the first one out. you picked up the paper ball left on the floor after it hit you and uncrumpled it. seonghwa always made sure to leave a message whenever he threw paper on you. some of your favorite messages included, ‘hey nerd, i bet your forehead is bigger than your brain’ , ‘a skirt to school? really living up to the teacher’s pet expectations i see’ , and your favorite ‘if you were a spice, you’d be flour’. but today’s message was a little bit different; ‘can we talk after class?’

you stared at the paper in confusion. maybe this was meant for someone else. you were ready to throw the paper in the garbage when you felt a hand grab your wrist. you turned around to meet the most unexpected pair of eyes.

the music blasted distantly from the inside of the house. there was some peace away from the chaos of the house party on the balcony. it was already nearing 12 a.m, but the party wasn’t stopping anytime soon. 

hongjoong stood on the balcony leaning on the railing sipping from his red solo cup filled with sprite. as the designated driver he couldn’t risk even the smallest sip fully knowing how bad of a lightweight he was. 

the three story condo built upon a hill was beautiful and big with a balcony overlooking the pool and the city. it wasn’t like hongjoong didn’t like parties, but he always did enjoy the peace of escaping the scene for a while.

you walked out of the kitchen in frustration to your room. 

two of your best friends were arguing in the middle of your kitchen. again. simply over washing the dishes. they’re so stupid. you muffled your groans using your pillow.

life wasn’t always like this for the three of you. the three of you had always been so close to each other since high school. nothing ever got in between you too. there was no rivalry between the two boys either whenever it came to attention or spending time with you. that is, until you found out they both liked you.

some would say you were blind to it, but how were you supposed to know that their increased affection towards you and wanting to hang out with you individually were signs that they had grown feelings for you. 

the worst part for you was that both boys had no idea that the other liked you too. so instead of talking things out and not risk your friendship, they’d grown increasingly distant and rude towards each other. and every time you tried to salvage your already dying friendship, they would merely put it past them for they sake that they wanted to make you happy.

it wasn’t long before they spotted you standing on the bridge looking at the water. the sun hit you perfectly accentuating all the features of your face. though your face looked downcast, your presence tugged on the heart strings of your admirer. hundreds of people walked through the park everyday, but it was the first time they’d ever seen you. 

the sunlight danced around your face creating some sort of invisible halo. the sun hitting the water below the bridge made it sparkle, as if you brought the stars of the sky down the earth with you. you had on nothing but a hoodie, but you radiated warmth from the glow of your skin. your face was slightly pink, but it dusted across your nose and cheekbones creating a soft blush.

they wanted to walk up to you and say something, anything. but they couldn’t. so they just stared. you looked like you’d been crying so they couldn’t bear to walk up to you and say the wrong thing. so they let you be. in all of your sadness, you were beautiful. 

you only wish you’d thought the same thing.

The treadmill starts getting slower as you clicked the stop button. You stretch a little as you got off the treadmill and noticed your boyfriend walking over to you.

“You finished?” You asked really confused since it’s only been 20 minutes. Ever since he came back from tour you guys have been spending more time together. Today’s activity was going to the gym together. You guys decided to go together but separate once you got there as you both had different work out routines.

“Kinda...” he says laughing a little looking around.

“Babe it’s been 20 minutes. Is this how long you usually work out?” You ask really confused.

“No I just wanted to give you a...” he leans over and kisses you passionately on the lips. You smile against his lips and slowly push him away.

“Babe is something wrong?” You ask and he shakes his head.

“No I just missed you and I was thinking maybe we can just work out together. Not separate.”

“Yeah babe.” You say smiling up at him as you take your water bottle. “Next I’m just going to lift some weights but didn’t you just do that?” You look up at him and notice him staring intensely at someone and you look over and notice some guy staring back. Then it clicked. You look over at him and laugh and he breaks his stare and looks down at you as you start walking. “You’re funny.” You say as you reach the weights and he’s following close behind you.

“How so?” He asks and you put your water bottle down and pick up the weight.

“Are you pissed off that the guy over there is watching me?” You say moving your head towards his direction.

“What?” He says scoffing and rolling his eyes. “I can’t just want to work out together?” You laugh and roll your eyes.

“Sure.” You say and continue working out. “Grab some weights.” You say and he stands right in front of you and starts lifting them.

You couldn’t help but laugh at the effort he was putting in to block you from any other guys view as you both continued to work out together.

“Wow I think I’m ready to head home.” He says as he looked around.

“He left just so you know.” You said as you got off the last gym equipment.

“Who?” You glare at him and he shrugs. “I really have no idea what you’re talking about.” He says as he gets up and starts walking away.

“You’re so annoying. Just admit it.” You say catching up to him.

“Admit what?”

“You’re mad over that guy looking at me.”

“What!?” He says turning around with his mouth hanging open. You push him lighting laughing.

“I think I’m just going to go on for another hour. I’m not really feeling the burn yet.” You say and he shakes his head.

“Nope were going home. And actually I might just buy a gym at home so you don’t have to even bother coming here.” You laugh and reach up to pinch his cheeks.

“You’re so cute when you’re jealous.” You say as you start walking towards the locker room.

“I’m being serious.” He says and you just shake your head laughing. “Who needs to go to the gym?”

Nothing makes me happier than seeing the immense amount of growth that Ateez and The Boyz achieved this year, especially considering they came from small companies. They really are one of the most humble and noteworthy 4th gen groups for me.
