Let's make our own fate

Needed practice with Alastor's colors before going at it with the wip piece I have (which ironically enough is another red string of fate piece). But while I do oh so enjoy Alastor being an independent mammal who doesn't need no mate, I 100% still have fun shipping with him myself from time to time. And this ship is probably my favorite with him (and y'know what, you can take this as a QPR thing or romance thing, why not?)! And, might I add, severely underrated when it has elements of radiobelle, radioapple, and radiostatic (in terms of colors at least) wrapped up together- HOW ARE PEOPLE SLEEPING ON THIS SHIP HELLO???

Joking aside, Emily and Alastor are in a weird place for me where I like them in this ship dynamic (QPR or romantic), but I also like them in a dynamic similar to what Alastor and Charlie have if you're going the mentor-protege route or parent-child route. Which is a very strange to like those two very opposing dynamics (primarily the lovey dovey and parent-child aspects because y'know... )

I don't imagine these two will really interact much in canon, but I really would love to see how their interactions would go down and if they'd be at all different from how Charlie and Alastor interact (seeing as Emily and Charlie are a wee bit similar y'know?)

I've come to really like RadioJoy

Emily doesn't understand humans entirely because she's never lived a human life

She doesn't get that Heaven satisfies all materialistic desires

But not all emotional ones

That just getting to the finish like and being like "You Won" doesn't necessarily make you happy

But although she is not a human and has never lived as one, she still wants to be there for them. She believes they can change. She believes in making others happy just for the sake of it

On the other hand, Alastor is very, very much human

He's the bad parts of humanity, that makes Lucifer regret ever giving humanity free will

But he has his good moments

He is human in the way that he stayed with his human name, while a lot of other Sinners changed theirs

The job he had in life, is his job in the afterlife

He's still practicing the same hobbies

Still listening to the same music

Still eating the same food

He didn't expect to die at 33

He didn't mean to die so young

And because of his experiences, he doesn't believe change is possible. You had your chance.

Also, kindness comes with a price

Everything always has a price

They bounce off of each other quite well in those regards

Me: RadioJoy is purely romantic, Alastor is very touched by Emily in the depths of his secret soul, but it doesn’t change anything about his lack of interest in sex.

Also me: what if Emily is the only person in any realm that gets the unfiltered “Alastor altruist” experience, and she’s very horny and Alastor is happy to let his ange ride his thigh to her hearts content. He’s even inspired to be generous and give her a literal helping hand, very selflessly fingers his dearest angel. She saved his life after all! It’s the least he could do. And he doesn’t have to do much at all, really.

Oh and bonus, if she’s straddling while Alastor helps out, she can bite his neck and scratch his ears, which just generally feels nice for him. What also feels good is being the devil on the angel’s shoulder (or the devil with the angel moaning into his shoulder!), making her act like a sinner :)

Ok, but why is this hilarious? 😂 It's true. He does seem like the sort of slacker student who would use AI to write his essay because he'd rather be outside playing with Appa.

It's the general vibe of wanting an easy solution to hard problems, which is kind of his main issue throughout the show.

Also an AI would 100% give him the constant sycophancy he loves. "You're so right – just because Ozai wants to kill the entire Earth Kingdom doesn't mean you should be forced to kill him. Responding to your friends the way you did wasn't just brave – it was truly iconic."

It's basically how the narrative treats him. "No, sweet baby angel, you don't need to put in any work to understand anyone's point of view but your own. You are the wisest, bravest, smartest of them all, but also your age excuses your worst acts of entitlement and you never have to apologize, ever!"

Both Alastor and Emily stand up in front of fire

So am I the only one who noticed that both of them stand up against their superior in front of fire motif where methaforically people could die in?

So for Emily it was in s1e6

Of course later on Charlie is with her

And in the fire there are sinners who died or could die during the exterminations

While for Alastor it was during the s2e8

Where he is blackmailing Rosie, and showing that the hotel staff +Emily could all die if Rosie does not agree to his bargain

I find it so interesting, because correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't remember any other character doing that, and not just that, but this is a crucial moment for both of them to change the status quo with their superiors.

I think it is neat that these echo each other, even to the point of people dying in the fires!

As a radiojoy shipper I am delusional about it, thinking the creators planned this or something

But anyways, any thoughts?

I hadn't noticed! I really enjoy the parallels between them.

Especially their smiles: Emily as the Joy Bringer, created for the happiness of the victors, while Alastor uses his smile as a mask. Emily is helpful to her people despite being a High-Rank Seraph; she acts as their right hand. Alastor was a human who craved power and fun.

Joy and fun, one selflessly (for and with her people), the other for himself.

Besides the way they both use physical contact. Emily even jumps into the arms of her loved ones, and Alastor, for his part, uses physical contact in the same way as Vox, even if he won't admit it.

It's also interesting to consider that Emily never knew physical pain until she saved Alastor.

I really love all that you listed, because it sums up perfectly many things about them that are so compelling.

I especially like the smile pararells because it really does feel like they are the two sides of the same coin.

I really think everyone needs to truly internalize this:

Fictional characters are objects.

They are not people. You cannot "objectify" them, because they have no personhood to be deprived of. They have no humanity to be erased. You cannot "disrespect" them, because they are not real.

Your addition is actually completely antithetical to my message. It is literally the opposite of what I am conveying.

Stop telling people to encourage the cop inside their head.

How you treat fictional characters, given they are entirely objects of fiction, does NOT necessarily speak to your own character, and you do not need to be "careful".

It is not dangerous to imagine dark things happening to fictional characters. It does not mean you are secretly a bad person. It does not mean you unconsciously want to hurt people in real life. It is not a "slippery slope" to doing bad things to people in real life. You cannot damage your brain or turn yourself into a bad person by consuming "dark" fanfic.

I can write tentacle noncon of my favorite character all day long and be a fierce anti-sexual assault advocate in real life because what I do in my head is not the same thing as what I do in real life.

Alastor x Emily and Alastor x Charlie Rant

I don't know about anyone else, but it does bother me as a Radiojoy shipper, that we are told by the fandom, that we only ship Radiojoy, because Charlie is with Vaggie. I can tell where they are coming from, because on the surface Charlie and Emily seem to have the same personality, so they think if one doesn't work we'll take the other, but let me just say, it isn't like that! For me Charlie and Emily start and stop being similar at their cinamonroll energy. Both are clearly their own persons, and the comparison is slightly insulting. Let me just also say, that being a Charlie x Alastor shipper

is probably a better experince than Radiojoy, they actually interacted meaningfully in canon, there are more fics and more art about them, and honest to god, I tried to ship them but I just can't. With Radiojoy there are so few stuff on them, that as a last resort, I started reading a Charlastor fic, and could not even finish the first chapter. I browsed their tumblr, only to be uncomfortable with it, and even just watched canon of them talking, and nothing was doing it. If it becomes actually canon, than I hope the writing will be convincing, because right now I just can't. I don't know if anyone agrees with me, but for me at least, these two ships are totally different, and the comparison is annoying.
